1. Sorry to hear that. No words of wisdom from me I'm afraid, but plenty of sympathy!
2.
He is great in Muse... depends what he could play outside of that band. Many many bass players ( and other players, come to that ) that find their perfect niche in a successful band may be pretty one dimensional outside it. Maybe they wont care as they have more money than they could ever spend but their skill may not transfer at all... just sayin'
But there are a lot of players where we will never know how good they are outside of their chosen niche as we don't get to hear them. I was really lucky to hear Gary Moore sound check. Didn't like his usual style but the version of Moon River he played, complete with beautiful chord inversions was stunning. Who knows what CW does outside of Muse, I'd like to hazard a guess that he is a more rounded player than you give him credit for.
3. I never understand why people use the phrase "if you're looking at this you will already know about it". It smacks of either laziness or their own limited knowledge. Sorry, rant over, as you were!
4. Could try Mr Foxen who I think has gone from BC but can be found here: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Ampstack/351966881575839?pnref=lhc
5. As someone who had a shop for two years I'd just like to say spend a fortnight the other side of the counter before you judge too harshly - us bass players are a difficult bunch to sell to
6.
Why don't you email GK? There maybe a mod a tech could do.
You would have thought so, but I just had a quick look on-line at the manual and it is very specific about there being different units for the different voltages. So looks like a no go.
7. We'll be playing outdoors on Marine Drive, Brighton closing the show for the Brighton Bikers' Night - approx 8:30 to 9:30 (the evening runs form 7:00). Come along for some soulful blues with Lee Ainley's Blues Storm! https://www.facebook.com/brightonbikersnights
8. Only fairly recently come across this and love it because of the following: Performance is pretty amazing, technically, the quality for its time is just stunning, the ridiculous choice of setting and her arrival on horse drawn carriage, then I discovered it happened two days after I was born so I feel a strange affinity to it. 9. Fender Rumble V3 - I use a pair, one with horn on lower setting, one with horn off and I am very happy with them very, very good price too!
10. Don't know if it is technically the right thing to do, but I started by playing at the 5th fret, getting comfortable playing in e and working from there.
11. Great end result, and a fine looking bass. Not enough strings though...!
12. Another fan for the fingerboard (whole bass is lovely, but that board is a bit special)! Also like the heel detail on the neck.
13.
I went round to have a look at it, but it don't look like it was there anymore?
Give Phil a call, they have a couple of quiet nights, so you may have missed them. 01273 422250
14. Don't meet your heroes? Well, I did 36 years ago when I was 15, and he was an absolute gentleman, and still remains my main musical inspiration.
15.
There are a few BCers from Littlehampton - Silverfoxnik and Hamster spring to mind - home of the SE Bash. Hope the gig goes well..
Thanks - yes, couldn't make the SE Bash, just down the road in Climping (lovely beach)!!
16.
I want a bass that plays like lard...
Lard played bass in the Fall for a while.
17. I'll be playing with my new(ish) band Lee Ainley's Blues Storm at the Crown, Littlehampton, West Sussex this Sunday (17th) from 4 to around 7. Soulful, female fronted blues at a bit of an odd time of day, but it seems to work for the pub!
18. No experience of performing to such a crowd, but a couple of years back I was introducing a band on stage, special guests on a tour playing 1200/2000 seater gigs. Went out to introduce them at the Hammersmith Odeon (or whatever it is being called this week) to find about a dozen punters in, with the typical London crowd all in the bar. I did feel a bit self conscious on that one, thinking I could go around and tell everyone individually!!
19. Welcome from down the road in Burgess Hill!
20.
How about http://www.phrases.org.uk/meanings/lead-balloon.html then?
Thanks, as that actually agrees with what I've been getting at. Original - "the stocks went UP like a lead balloon" makes perfect sense, whereas, going down that has passed into usage doesn't.
21. I know that johnnythenotes and I will end up in a minority, but yes, I always keep some to spare - hate having to tweak the amp once we're playing. Also getting used to having volume higher and not being so physical.
22.
It's well-known. How about http://forums.ledzeppelin.com/index.php?/topic/1152-is-it-true-that-keith-moon-named-led-zeppelin/ ?
Sorry Tauzero, you misunderstood my post, I know how the band came about the name, I'm querying the origins of the phrase itself.
23.
I think a lead balloon going down badly refers to it deflating rather than physically dropping in height

Surely a lead balloon would never get off the ground?
Strange, a quick google and there is no information on the origin of th phrase. Bpnzodog, I don't buy your version, sorry. 4-string-thing, yes, but IF it did, it would come down brilliantly!
