1. Led Zeppelin - never understood the expression, going down like a lead balloon to mean going down badly. I'd have thought it would go down brilliantly, and getting it up would be the hard part (titter ye not)!
2.
Where's the place in southwick?
Chalex industrial estate, right by Fishergate Station (over footbridge). It's pretty new, google PA Studio Brighton.
3.
We normally use brighton electric, but they were fully booked so we had to use use ivy in Worthing
Thought it might have been you in Southwick, some serious bass shaking going on in there! Getting that into Brighton Electric would be fun with the parking around there!
4. Congratulations on getting this built - it is truly brilliant - mad, yes, but brilliant! Just don't start gassing for a pair BTW, which rehearsal room did you use?
5. Looked at some over the last year as I have dabbled with effects for the first time. I just wish these guys would demo the pedal, i.e. go through the features, and not use it as an opportunity to show off their chops. MXR's own demos are good for this, EHX allow users to post, which can be pretty hit and miss.
6.
Strange Town - The Jam. The B side was Butterfly Collector. There are a lot of Jam records that had great B sides
Didn't the Jam make quite a big thing about not putting loads of singles on their albums? Thereby treating the single as an important release in its own right, none of those dodgy instrumental/dub b sides for them!
7. Used to stock ESP as a dealer about 7 years ago and was always most impressed by their cheapest range.
8.
The "L" stands for some guy whose first name is "Leo"
And just as importantly, the G stands for George (& not the bloke from Asda)!
9. Been quietly loving this thread - hats off to you Bootsy! Another one who will probably hear it if you fire it up at in Shoreham
10.
Great cabs these - only sold mine cos I couldn't find a second one
Same here!! Happy with what I replaced mine with but these cabs are fabulous and would have loved a second one. GLWTS.
11. Rotary. Why? Well it would be a true behemoth, and it would exact revenge on all those keyboard players with overactive left hands!
12. That is lovely. Reckon it would also look incredible on some lightly grained ash.
13.
, but Layla? That opening guitar riff still makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up!
OK, I grant you the opening riff isn't too bad, I could probably live with the first 2:30 minutes :-D
14.
That is lovely! I've looked at buying that body before but always chickened out because I was worried about getting the holes badly wrong! You definitely have more steel than me
Ha! That's what bridge covers are made for :-)
15.
Most of the ones mentioned so far were not actually hits. Didnt Joe Brown have a hit with Hava Nigila ? Or was it Dave Edmunds ? Either way its a very old song, and was at least, a minor hit for one of em. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L6Oo8dSBwAA
Scarborough Fair #11 in US 1968.
16. That is a very powerful performance, and yes, a harrowing subject, but great that artists did stuff like this.
17. Just seen some Clapton tracks listed, so feeling brave (but will still put the tin hat on and hide) - Layla, esp that Allman drivel at the end, it's just an horrendous racket! Right, I'm off......
18. Well that was fun, chalk & cheese with my other P Style, but then that is a 5 string fretless with flats and a Norstrand pick-up. Really, really lively, with that lovely punky clank with the tone up not quite appropriate for the Blues bit I'll certainly find a couple of songs for it.
19. Lighthouse Family - tuneless vocals used to drive me mad.
20.
Did this come with the sea foam finish already on? *shakes piggy bank*
Yes it did, as I said, a little fragile where I drilled but it may have been my workmanship, not their finishing. Was a great price, check to see if they have a deal on!!
21.
I think that looks great...
Thanks Rob (I won't show pics with the cover off though)!!
22. Scarborough Fair has got to be a contender, with original versions older than Bach, and the version we know being about 200 years old (and Paul Simon once claiming a writing credit)!! Younger, but a much with a more definitive written and published date, a song revived by Sting, Spread a Little Happiness, originally written in 1929.
23. Here's my attempt at a kit build - Mighty Mite body and neck from Build Your Own Guitars in the US. Always loved Sea Foam Green, and think it looks great with a maple board. I messed up the bridge, hence the cover hiding the first set of holes and the decal is a bit iffy too, but it plays nicely, and I'll see what it sounds like tonight at a rehearsal. The BYO kit was pretty good value (including postage and duty), however, and I don't know if it was me, but, even with great care, I found the finish cracked badly around a lot of the drill holes.
