1.
This is supposed to be a sublime instrument. Depends who's playing it I suppose..
To be fair, it hasn't been put up as a demo, it's a new owner rather egotistically showing his bass off - those moves, those facial expressions, those shorts
 2.
I've played in Blues bands since the early 90s. Most of the bands I play with are still playing the same, tired, old songs to an aging, balding and rapidly thinning audience. The Blues is great but when I play festivals it's rare to see anyone under 50 in the crowd. My brother in law is the programmer for The Edinburgh Jazz & Blues Festival and he's well aware of the problem with ageing Blues acts performing to ageing audiences. At the moment he's over in the States checking out acts for next years festival. He's primarily looking for young talented acts that can bring the blues into the 21st century and appeal to a younger audience. He'll be travelling all over the states from San Francisco to Florida, taking in Clarksdale Mississippi on the way. This is one of the guys he'll be bringing over this year. Castro Coleman (Mr Sipp) won The International Blues Challenge final, held in Memphis in 2014. https://youtu.be/aDvVQxMY67M
Nice gig for the BiL! Will check Mr Sipp out properly later on.
 3. My local jewellers charges £50 an hour for making jewellery. Now, nothing against them, but they are hardly the very pinnacle of jewellery making like Fodera is with bass making. So let's double that hourly rate to take into account the level of experience and expertise of the luthiers, and central NYC living costs, on a 37.5 hour week that would be less than three weeks labour cost without any materials. Seems to me relatively good value (at least compared to a local jewellers).
 4.
Yep. He's been great for always, but for that time in the Bluesbreakers EC's playing was stunning. And you got to hear John McVie as well. You just knew you were watching something special. It's sad that they didn't record a live album at that time.
He's believed to be on these BBC sessions though: http://www.amazon.com/Live-at-BBC-John-Mayall/dp/B000LC4BN4
 5. In Liverpool for John Mayall's 70th Birthday Concert, along with Mick Taylor and the incredible Buddy Whittington: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qOpxFe2_gns
 6.
Didn't Wet Wet Wet once sponsor a local team? I know whose name I'd rather have on my footy top :-)
Skint (Norman Cook's label) sponsor Brighton & Hove Albion - always looks odd on match days around here when people wander around with that emblazoned on their chest!
 7. That's brilliant - could make some money on the replica shirt sales!
 8. An engineer is there to use his/her technical expertise. Sure a producer would need to like what you are doing but that's a whole other kettle of fish. (sorry, probably opened the door to a whole bunch of Basschat fish puns)
 9.
Not really my kind of thing, but it can't be as embarrassing as the time I was bouncing around the room playing guitar along to Shania Twain and my wife and best mate walked in...
Ha, worse than that, I showed no shame, there were people in the room already!!!
 10. Thanks for that, love the live Constant Sorrow, will have a closer listen to the albums.
 11. I needed keyhole surgery for my stones a couple of years back! Saw them at Wembley when one of the big football tournaments were on (Italy? 1990?). Half the audience were in the bar, half of those remaining had one ear plugged in to a transistor radio. Big cheers, followed by big groans as England lost once again. Loved the gig, love the band, including some of their later stuff.
 12. Working Man has a nice little riff, can't post link from my phone, but top result on youtube is nice Live version. Swinging Doors needs you on the I V all the way, with the odd little run between chord changes. Get yourself into the right mindset for it, concentrate on getting a great tone and getting your notes in exactly the right place, and then enjoy how great you've just made the song, not how elaborate your bass line has been.
 13. Might change my name to Tchaikovsky and give this one a go.....
 14. Just made a right idiot of myself when Lauren Laverne played this on 6 Music just now. Hope some of you enjoy this just a fraction of the amount I did! Sola, Tabu-Tabu http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GriJwXNyolg
 15.
Items for sale in this part of the forum are often headlined with just the make/model, and for non-techies like me it’s very difficult to know exactly what’s being sold. I was wondering – very, very pretty please – if it might be possible to split the category into amps, cabs, combos and rigs?

There is always "Google". That's what I use if I'm not familiar with a certain brand or model. You can also get reviews.
Not one for marketing then Coilte? It is a very good point from the OP - way too much jargon and reliance on model numbers and abbreviations that expect everyone else to also be in the know, so a simple name, model and what it is wouldn't harm the chance of a sale, and would improve the experience of users like anaxcrosswords.
 16. Great song, but I'm intrigued by your right hand technique in the first video - flamenco guitarist in a former life?
 17.
What are the dimensions on this? And weight? Thanks!

Getting it out of the garage to measure, weigh and price up carriage this afternoon.
Hi Chaypup, Sorry, I didn't see that this thread had been brought back from the dark when you originally posted. Cab weighs 15kg with the Eminence Neo in, the Black Widow is 7Kg on its own, so I reckon would add another 4gk overall. Measuerments HxWxD are 50x40x32 cm. Cheers, Mike p.s. Carriage £8.00 UPS Access Point.

 19.
And that's the perception, which is too bad. My point or question is, how can you get younger people to listen to blues/rock? I think they would need to want to listen to live music first, I think that's the big hurdle. We are are a blues / rock band all older guys my age with a young female lead guitarist so it's a little easier for us. Blue
Interesting point Blue, I'll have to see if there's any research on audience ages - I'd hazard a guess they've got older.
 20.
Tommy Bolin anyone? 'ducks'
From the wonderfully titled "On The Wings of a Russian Foxbat" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MDzyVOYBlh0
 21. Really in the eye (or ear) of the beholder, but for aching beauty I'd venture John Martyn Solid Air album or Jeff Buckley Hallelujah, the latter to my ear being so tender and broken, I can't believe it was so badly abused by X Factor! On the classical side, oddly, for an ardent atheist, I adore Mozart's Grand Mass.
 22.
Off Topic I know but I have to make mention of your avatar Mykesbass, I remember A1 stores well, just on the corner of East Street.
yep, that's the one, worked there from the age of 13 - 1977!
 23.
My conclusion is that the blues will continue to be performed and consumed but it is moving into the same closed box as Jazz. If that's the case, we should stop worrying and simply enjoy it as a curio. *
Some nice points Skank. The one I've quoted is probably the crux of the matter, and the one that I hope can be addressed by a younger generation, much like the folk examples I gave (point taken about country though).
