1. No experience of performing to such a crowd, but a couple of years back I was introducing a band on stage, special guests on a tour playing 1200/2000 seater gigs. Went out to introduce them at the Hammersmith Odeon (or whatever it is being called this week) to find about a dozen punters in, with the typical London crowd all in the bar. I did feel a bit self conscious on that one, thinking I could go around and tell everyone individually!!
 2. Welcome from down the road in Burgess Hill!
 3.
How about http://www.phrases.org.uk/meanings/lead-balloon.html then?
Thanks, as that actually agrees with what I've been getting at. Original - "the stocks went UP like a lead balloon" makes perfect sense, whereas, going down that has passed into usage doesn't.
 4. I know that johnnythenotes and I will end up in a minority, but yes, I always keep some to spare - hate having to tweak the amp once we're playing. Also getting used to having volume higher and not being so physical.
 5.
It's well-known. How about http://forums.ledzeppelin.com/index.php?/topic/1152-is-it-true-that-keith-moon-named-led-zeppelin/ ?
Sorry Tauzero, you misunderstood my post, I know how the band came about the name, I'm querying the origins of the phrase itself.
 6.
I think a lead balloon going down badly refers to it deflating rather than physically dropping in height

Surely a lead balloon would never get off the ground?
Strange, a quick google and there is no information on the origin of th phrase. Bpnzodog, I don't buy your version, sorry. 4-string-thing, yes, but IF it did, it would come down brilliantly!
 7. Led Zeppelin - never understood the expression, going down like a lead balloon to mean going down badly. I'd have thought it would go down brilliantly, and getting it up would be the hard part (titter ye not)!
 8.
Where's the place in southwick?
Chalex industrial estate, right by Fishergate Station (over footbridge). It's pretty new, google PA Studio Brighton.
 9.
We normally use brighton electric, but they were fully booked so we had to use use ivy in Worthing
Thought it might have been you in Southwick, some serious bass shaking going on in there! Getting that into Brighton Electric would be fun with the parking around there!
 10. Congratulations on getting this built - it is truly brilliant - mad, yes, but brilliant! Just don't start gassing for a pair BTW, which rehearsal room did you use?
 11. Looked at some over the last year as I have dabbled with effects for the first time. I just wish these guys would demo the pedal, i.e. go through the features, and not use it as an opportunity to show off their chops. MXR's own demos are good for this, EHX allow users to post, which can be pretty hit and miss.
 12.
Strange Town - The Jam. The B side was Butterfly Collector. There are a lot of Jam records that had great B sides
Didn't the Jam make quite a big thing about not putting loads of singles on their albums? Thereby treating the single as an important release in its own right, none of those dodgy instrumental/dub b sides for them!
 13. Used to stock ESP as a dealer about 7 years ago and was always most impressed by their cheapest range.
 14. Damn, need four votes this month.....
 15.
The "L" stands for some guy whose first name is "Leo"
And just as importantly, the G stands for George (& not the bloke from Asda)!
 16. Been quietly loving this thread - hats off to you Bootsy! Another one who will probably hear it if you fire it up at in Shoreham
 17.
Great cabs these - only sold mine cos I couldn't find a second one
Same here!! Happy with what I replaced mine with but these cabs are fabulous and would have loved a second one. GLWTS.
 18. Most admirable, Admiral!
 19. Rotary. Why? Well it would be a true behemoth, and it would exact revenge on all those keyboard players with overactive left hands!
 20. That is lovely. Reckon it would also look incredible on some lightly grained ash.
 21.
, but Layla? That opening guitar riff still makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up!
OK, I grant you the opening riff isn't too bad, I could probably live with the first 2:30 minutes :-D
 22.
That is lovely! I've looked at buying that body before but always chickened out because I was worried about getting the holes badly wrong! You definitely have more steel than me
Ha! That's what bridge covers are made for :-)
 23.
Most of the ones mentioned so far were not actually hits. Didnt Joe Brown have a hit with Hava Nigila ? Or was it Dave Edmunds ? Either way its a very old song, and was at least, a minor hit for one of em. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L6Oo8dSBwAA
Scarborough Fair #11 in US 1968.
 24. That is a very powerful performance, and yes, a harrowing subject, but great that artists did stuff like this.
 25. Just seen some Clapton tracks listed, so feeling brave (but will still put the tin hat on and hide) - Layla, esp that Allman drivel at the end, it's just an horrendous racket! Right, I'm off......
