1.
Good question: It's to embed in Facebook, really.
Really think you should put a contact up in the final frame - just in case (like on here) someone gets to see it outside of Facebook. Cracking showreel though!
 2. Some great stuff showing a highly accomplished, versatile player - so why are you being so coy with contact details, with just a rather obscured facebook address?
 3.
All above "liked" and some awesome band names guys. https://www.facebook...8112861?fref=ts
Love the band look!
 4.
I can't help but feel that you should be getting "likes" based on the merits of your music, and not through blunt exhortation. For sure, it's a great idea to promote your band on these forums, I just think that people should perhaps be a little more scrupulous, and only "like" what they actually, well, like...
Fair enough, but nothing like a bit of reciprocal hype for each other's bands, giving each other a stronger case with venues, promoters etc.
 5.
I thought that I'd set up this thread after a suggestion by a fellow Basschatter. I was having a "wee moan" about privacy issues on Facebook and (being impatient) also mentioned how it is getting increasingly difficult to promote our band page and to get likes. In response I got 10 page likes within 24 hours-It may not sound a lot but was much appreciated and cheered me up no end, For new or originals bands having a FB band page is a useful signpost, for your audience, promoters and festival organisers so having a decent amount of "Page Likes" is a good thing. The idea is simple "follow the link and like the band page" and hopefully get a like back or if you may wish leave a link on this thread for others to like your page. Unless you really don't like them of course Anyway here's my page so lets see if it works? https://www.facebook...yBadgers?ref=hl Note: You may find some great new bands in the process-only one way to find out.

Great idea! I'm now the Angry Badger's newest fan. Like me up! Velcro Pelmet - jazz-rock for the south London masses. https://www.facebook.com/VelcroPelmet
Good work Pinball - liked all 3, had the honour of being Velcro Pelmet's 99th like! Here's mine: https://www.facebook.com/LABluesStorm
 6. To get my new Blues/Soul band busy gigging! Already made sure I'm not doing so many weekends with the day job for the coming year to make time for the band.
 7.
Right , now I can join in this thread as I'm 60 today! TBH it's sh*t, no gig and not one till NYE. Not sure I'm going to like my 60's.....!
Happy Birthday!!!
 8. I did get excellent service earlier this year from the combined USPS and Parcelforce but it could well be the exception that proves the rule! Parcel2go have some amazing prices from people like UPS - much cheaper than booking direct, but not 100% sure you can do a US pick-up with them, but well worth a look.
 9. Yes, get on over there and have a listen and vote - worth doing every month but there's stacks of time to listen this month so no excuses!
 10.
The band has got to be upto it as well..... I think you'll have to be quite brutal with it in regards to whether it works and not get carried away as a song that you'd really like to do. It is very definitely a vocal feature but the band has to be able to carry it off with power and dynamics, which is why it tends to be produced..and those songs are hard to do slimmed down..
Agreed, and pretty much why I highlighted the Terry Reid version. Don't worry, I'm a realist, if it isn't going to work it will be dropped like a hot brick!
 11.
That might happen, I'm destined to do a few bar shows in the UK before I'm done with all this. Blue
Now that would be great! Should see if we could get a Basschat tour booked for your band (as long as you can get us all gigs back in Milwaukee)!!
 12.
I just want to say that, having read through this thread, it (IMHO) exemplifies what a good bass chat thread should be. People with differing views making points, answering points and making reasoned counter points. A bit of humour thrown in, no insults, no shouting. All in all a pleasure to read, and it makes you think about what's being said rather than jumping to a pre-held opinion.
Yep, well said - has made me really want to be having a good face to face friendly, civilised argument with Blue!
 13.
Hangs head in shame.
Not at all - how boring would the planet be if we all liked the same thing?!
 14.
Duffy does a pretty good version in the soundtrack for The Boat that Rocked.
Sorry Bob, but that doesn't do it for me on so many levels - vibrato, phrasing, some of the arrangement, but I love the fact that we all get things so differently!
 15.
Interesting point, I really wonder about that, what bands will still be in the came 50 years from now. The whole concept of band and fans is different. You guys know how loyal us Beatles and Stones fans have been for the past 50 years. Are the fans of new bands as loyal? Blue
I really don't understand this concept - I love some Bowie stuff but haven't bought anything since Let's Dance. Elvis Costello is another one - I love his work with the Attractions but haven't bought his work with the Brodsky Quartet through loyalty. Besides, 8 years from the Beatles is hardly them being loyal back!
 16.
Ok, hey I'm open to your position. If The Stones and McCartney are no longer as big or as important as they once were, why are they still selling out stadiums at $160.00 a pop. Somebody must think they're still important or still entertaining? So, I'm looking for your response to the "why?" Blue
Plenty of people do for sure, and they are the baby boomers who can afford the $160 tickets, along with the Harley they always wanted as a kid, possibly along with a Custom Shop Strat or Les Paul, but nowhere near the numbers to compare to their glory days. And, apart from Robert Plant, are any of them making interesting, new music or just re-hashing past glories? Ah, nostalgia - ain't what it used to be!
 17.
Commercial success does not guarantee Taylor's music will stand the test of time. The Stones and Paul McCartney are still selling out stadiums to several generations 50 years after the fact. Let's use Taylor for your generation, we can check back with each other 50 years from now and see how she's doing. Blue
She's not my generation - I'm 50, she was just an example of one of today's artists who is in the same league as many of the global superstars you seem to be nostalgically yearning for. The Stones and McCartney are nowhere near as big or important as they once were, and I doubt any of your superstars will have the longevity of Mozart. It seems a shame that someone with a great knowledge and experience in music is putting up these unnecessary generational barriers - enjoy what the kids are doing and listening to and then pick up on some of the influences and introduce them to those - a bit like we Brits did with all your wonderful Blues music you were ignoring until we told you how great it was
 18.
How good is your singer? The problem with this number is the power of Lorraine Ellison's performance. She's the only one I've heard that nails it. She's singing it, everyone else (including Sam Brown) shouts it.

I couldn't agree more. This is powerful singing and not shouting and how it's meant to be done.
I have always loved the original (and best) but was looking for a different take on it that could be attempted in a band setting without horns and strings which is why I like the Terry Reid take on it. Also, with Sam Brown, yes, she hollers some of it but I thought she showed a lot of control and pure singing in a very powerful performance. Yes, I think my singer is pretty amazing, and when she gets the chance as on a song like this she really comes in to her own. I'll report on progress in the new year (including a rehearsal recording if we crack it)!!
 19. I'll check those out - can imagine Steve Marriott doing it justice!
 20. The original needs more than our 4 piece can throw at it but this version of Stay With Me (Baby) is hopefully achievable and my singer loves it and will do a cracking job on it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jW9mDyFgh1o there's always this version when we get the full horn section in years to come: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ACFlm7vX624
 21.
Someone made an astute and enlightening comment.I really never thought about it, but there are no more global rock stars. I guess that's a thing of the past. Someone once told me that in today's music world an Aretha Franklin or a Stevie Wonder would have a hard time getting signed. blue
This Taylor Swift has sold more units globally than a lot of those that we of a certain vintage would think of as global superstars, including Rod Stewart, Fleetwood Mac, Stevie Wonder and Bob Dylan. And that is just units sold - think about the streaming, illegal downloads and copying, merchandise, endorsement deals etc that she will be enjoying as music is consumed so differently these days and she will be pushed much further up the leader board. There is a great radio show in the UK every Saturday morning - Sounds of the 60s, which looks at the era with rose tinted glasses but ends up playing so much old dross you suddenly appreciate it isn't so bad today!! Cheers, Mike
 22.
The other choice is focusing on rhythm and for me I'd focus on groove, looking at pushing, pulling, pocket playing, and odd time sigs. What should I do?!
I think from reading your post the bulk of it points towards this being the one that will serve you best. On the other hand, if it is down to learning for learning's sake then it may be the only opportunity you get to delve deeply into the Jazz harmony. That probably hasn't helped at all has it?
