Did someone call? In all seriousness, go. Getting up and playing with people, in front of people is what a lot(not all) of playing bass is about. Most people will be generous and suppoertive to newbies so dive headlong in and enjoy it. Mike
Erm dude in the shop said he'll put the new batteries in (cos they'd leaked by now if they sat in the bass for 5 years),
Very rare for modern batteries to leak - I have some that have been in effects pedals for longer than that (nearer 10 for one) and are as clean as a whistle. Will no doubt get loads of posts of leaking batteries now

Until the item I'm after on Ebay goes I'll take £300 £2000 Of MIXER NOW JUST £400 open to reasonable offers - got my eye on something!! Having cleared up the garage I haven't been tripping over this so it dropped from my immediate attention. So let's get it bumped up and see if there is any interest in it now. I won this desk at auction but it is way beyond my needs or ability so am looking to sell or trade with some more suitable PA gear. Crest Performance made by Crest Audio in the USA, dated 2006. Looks completely unused to me, absolutely mint, boxed and with instruction manual. Reviewed here: http://www.harmonyce...erformance-line Original price on these was just shy of £2,000 so think that [s]£600[/s] [s]£500[/s] [s]£450[/s] £400 in this condition is a bit of a(n even bigger) bargain. Trade wise, looking for a more suitable desk, power amps or powered mixer. Would prefer collection as boxed, it is very large.

If Flamenco/Celtic fusion upsets then perhaps Flamenco/Metal/Leonard Cohen fusion should be avoided at all costs! I personally love this album in all its ridiculous glory
Last time I looked at specific musical equipment insurance, about the only time it would be covered, in the context of being used in a working band, was while I was playing it on stage...
Looking at the pictures from some of your gigs that may well come in handy some day!!

Reading threads like this makes me despair - I ran a shop for two years and can honestly say I was nothing like any of these horror stories! Always very polite and accommodating, even let people who blatantly told me they couldn't afford certain guitars the chance to play them, kept strings fresh and did basic set ups on even the cheapest guitars. Even so I couldn't make a living out of it trying to do all this and compete with internet margins of 15% or less! By the way @spacey, not sure what the exact figures are, but I'm afraid us bass players are WAY less than 25% of a guitar shop's custom.
The bass has become an instrument that just gets ignored, in recording, in shops, in general. I am amazed how many shops are willing to pee of 1/4 of potential customers by not taking the instrument seriously. That is 25% of your sales walking out the door.
How to play a song in Eb - drop tuning etc
Mykesbass replied to stefBclef's topic in Theory and Technique
Just get the rest of the band to play it in E? Easier for everyone, especially in a live situation.
The horns will love you for that -
Anyone found a 1975 Shergold yet?
Hay, man, why do you keep asking?

I bother because despite the many gigs like the one you just had which leaves me feeling a bit hacked off for 12 hours there will be others where the band play brilliantly & you get a great response from total strangers. Then you get a real buzz for days.

Fantastic - what a great friend!

Had a promo vid done for the function band
Mykesbass replied to bassintheface's topic in Share Your Music
OK, going to put a hopefully constructive piece of criticism in to the pot (I agree with everyone else by the way, very slick piece of work) however, I had to go to your website, scroll through a few songs, find Sweet Disposition and then Google it. OK, I haven't kept bang up to date with charts, but a number 6 from 2009 wouldn't be my choice to kick off a function band promo reel, especially when juxtaposed with lots of full on classics that follow. Apart from that, a terrific piece of work, and should bring the bookings flooding in. Cheers, Mike -
My daughter has started to get into Electro Swing which has led me to digging out some of my Big Band stuff. Got a long train journey tomorrow, think I'll have at least The Atomic Mr Basie on the phone for company! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B9wQYuqPH0s
Of course, you're right. Although I did say "got the idea for" and at no point did I say "read" so your pedantry appears a little misplaced. However, I will admit to using the rear view mirror idea to purely add a certain artistic dramatisation to enhance the whole crazy idea of Van Morrison being followed by a supermarket delivery vehicle. I hope this clears up the matter.
Thank you for the clarification, good job he wasn't in France at the time as Fourgonnette Carrefour would never have worked!

Excellent choice - had a good old noodle on one in Wunjo, top of my list once the gig money comes pouring in
