1.
Someone made an astute and enlightening comment.I really never thought about it, but there are no more global rock stars. I guess that's a thing of the past. Someone once told me that in today's music world an Aretha Franklin or a Stevie Wonder would have a hard time getting signed. blue
This Taylor Swift has sold more units globally than a lot of those that we of a certain vintage would think of as global superstars, including Rod Stewart, Fleetwood Mac, Stevie Wonder and Bob Dylan. And that is just units sold - think about the streaming, illegal downloads and copying, merchandise, endorsement deals etc that she will be enjoying as music is consumed so differently these days and she will be pushed much further up the leader board. There is a great radio show in the UK every Saturday morning - Sounds of the 60s, which looks at the era with rose tinted glasses but ends up playing so much old dross you suddenly appreciate it isn't so bad today!! Cheers, Mike
 2.
The other choice is focusing on rhythm and for me I'd focus on groove, looking at pushing, pulling, pocket playing, and odd time sigs. What should I do?!
I think from reading your post the bulk of it points towards this being the one that will serve you best. On the other hand, if it is down to learning for learning's sake then it may be the only opportunity you get to delve deeply into the Jazz harmony. That probably hasn't helped at all has it?
 3. ^ Sure did!
 4.
I don't think you have to accept Paypal but I would have jumped at that if it were me!
Thought I hadn't made it up: http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/policies/accepted-payments-policy.html
 5. Amazing, sold if for £375 then slags off the buyer for having the temerity to want to pay by PayPal (which I thought you had to accept on Ebay)! Chutzpah of the highest order!
 6.
I reckon the blues brothers had the lyrics taped to the inside of their sunglasses

I find that when I'm singing, seven times out of ten, my eyes are closed,
Ubit's gone one better and had them tattooed to the insides of his eyelids
 7. or this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KKG7hOuEFmA although I did see him attempt this at the Virgin Megastore Oxford Street some 30+ years ago and it all went horribly wrong!
 8.
Hi where are u based?thanx
A long way from Sunderland I'm afraid - West Sussex, just outside of Brighton.
 9. OK, to clarify here, I was mainly responding to Discreet's post "Making a living from teaching and/or gigging and/or recording the bass," If the person is earning exclusively from teaching then to my mind they will not be a pro player. If they mainly earn from teaching with the odd gig, then still probably not a pro player. Surely a pro player apart from anything else needs to be able to commit to recording sessions, gigs, shows, tours and therefore not be available for regular teaching?
 10.
Why? If they're making a living from the bass then does it not count? What about luthiers and builders? They can make a living from the bass too, but not from actually playing it. What about retailers? What about the people at Bass Direct? What about Andy Baxter? What about the children? WON'T SOMEBODY THINK OF THE CHILDREN??
But the OP was about Pro Players - hopefully a huge percentage of the teacher's time will be not playing! Also, their profession is Teacher - absolutely nothing wrong with that but I still think it does not make somebody a pro player. Professional children - now there's a thought!!
 11. Slightly more seriously, I think it should be a player who earns their living from playing music - I would personally exclude teaching from this, as to me that is a completely different skill set and many great teachers would not necessarily make it as pro players just as many pro players will be awful teachers. There are of course many notable exceptions.
 12. Someone who doesn't use a music stand... ...or does
 13. Looks great in all combinations - nice dilemma to have

 15.
I can't believe the mis-matching of the original woodgrain from one of Fenders AVRI range. They should be ashamed of themselves. Looking forward to seeing the pics.

Agreed. Is this the £1800 reissue?!
Come on, they were only being faithful to the original 70's standards!!

 17. I think most modern Twins have a 100/25 watt selector switch on the back - see if his has one and get him to drive the amp but at the lower power.
 18.

BC member Dave Fry's brother Tristan played drums with BC favourite Herbie Flowers in a band sponsored by Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation. It all fell apart when they realised they really wanted to work with the film composer John Williams, not the classical guitarist.
 19. A little bit of an oddity, but a useful spare or cab for those rougher venues! This is an aluminium clad 12" cab, obtained from Thornybank a couple of years back. It can come with either an Eminence Basslite 8 ohm speaker or a monster Peavey Black Widow (also 8 Ohm), or will consider selling the cab empty. Looking for £75 for the cab and either speaker or £40 for either speaker and £35 for the empty cab. Will consider shipping the cab but don't have anything I'm confident to send a spare speaker in. Also always happy to look at trades.
 20. This question (or similar) often crops up and always baffles me - am I the only one who never plugs in at home? I can happily play along to CDs or MP3s either through quiet speakers or in one ear on headphones.
 21. Personally, as someone who usually likes keeping things very simple, I think your bass line works well with fits the song brilliantly, but yes, the eq needs some more work. I really liked the track, cracking little song, but have to agree, the drums need a fair bit of tidying up, both timing, and again, eq. I know you said the recording is for your own pleasure, but with a little time and more effort it will be something you can really shout about!
 22. Just s quick word of warning, Brighton may seem not too far, but as someone who lives close to it but works in Fontwell (v. close to Chichester) it is a bit of a hike - the A27 is not a great road.
