Bump - Gigs In and Around Birmingham Next Week
Mykesbass replied to Mykesbass's topic in General Discussion
If you like your punk/hardcore/metal. my band Meat Hook are supporting the Verukas at the Adam and Eve pub near central Brum on the 15th March....

^ Can vouch for Yorick's band being class, saw them a few years ago - have a cd in my room somewhere.
Got to say it wouldn't be my "go to" genre, but as long as they'll let a grey beardy bloke in I'll give it a go! -
Still looking for gigs to go to on Thursday and Friday - anyone looking for another audience member?! Working at the Big Bang Fair for three nights at the NEC, with three nights to kill March 13,14,15). Staying in Kenilworth. Anyone gigging on those dates - folk, blues, soul, reggae etc (anything but classic rock covers please)? Cheers, Mike
Ok I’m in. A hastily finished creation from me this month… and one that I wager will not be many people’s cup of tea! But meh, no matter.
That's an absolute cracker - there is a timeless element to it - bit of 70's electronic, bit of 80's (Black Box) and then some bang up to date (OK late 90's - that's the closest I do to up to date) sounds. Great job.
Yes
Brilliant, and sorry for being a bit dense!
The dry signal will be outputting through the effect send. If you don't want dry in the effect turn if fully off. The dry send is the input buffered the effect send includes up down and dry if selected
So, forgive my ignorance, the dry output is not affected by the dry control pot - that's just for the dry signal going through the effect out?

Bought a Micro Pog last week to use with new band - bluesy soulful stuff just bass, gtr, drums, vox and thought that the Pog would be good for a handful off riff based numbers for filling out under guitar solos. Set it up last night, dry signal through bass amp and wet signal (octave up only) through Roland Cube 40 on a crunchy overdrive setting. Sounded good when used with effect, the only problem was, some of the dry signal was getting into the Roland, meaning I was putting bass through the Roland, giving some overdriven bass (which I don't want) even when the effect was switched off. Settings were Octave Up fully on, Sub completely off and Dry a bit under fully on. Do I need to play around with settings, do I have to live with it (am I expecting too much) or do I have a faulty unit? Thanks in advance, Mike

Talking of toilet gigs: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-suffolk-26225149 Val is a great landlady and the Steamboat a top venue - wish we had someone like her around here!
We have a 3 year-old in the house, so I'm currently considering wall hangers until he's a little older and his fingers are less sticky.
Think that's a lot further off than you're hoping, and as they get taller the temptation to touch the hanging basses will be very strong! Keep them safely locked away as even teens can be amazingly clumsy!

Brilliant service in Wunjo today - had been impressed with the guitar shop before and had been treated really well when I was just browsing before in the bass shop. Bough a pedal in there today and the service was brilliant.
If you are ever in Weymouth you are welcome to try my one.
That's very kind - I'll see if I can divert next time I go to Cornwall for work - may be a trip in the spring.

I use a Carvin BX 500 head into a single 1x12 Purple Chili cab. Would quite like a second matching can (well, not matching, would quite like the vinyl to stay on the next one)! Haven't had to turn master above 3 yet but would still like to hear a second cab running.

Really shoouldn't have done that (click on the Sweetwater link) - I had absolutely no gas and now I want a Midtown
The tone controls. The term is used pretty much exclusively for the simple Treble, Mid and Bass controls found on traditional amps like Fender and Marshall.
Don't some describe this more specifically as the way these controls behave - as in "for a Fender style tone stack you want to set the mid......etc" (sorry, not the clearest of comments but I'm sure someone will know what I'm getting at and put it far better)!

So I wrote a little article on my blog....
Mykesbass replied to jimcroisdale's topic in Amps and Cabs
Thought it was written in a very friendly style, not the slightest bit patronizing. Only bit that isn't entirely clear is the bit about speaker throw - OK the signal may not be able to change but acoustics have a major factor on the sound, and cabs will sound very different when you are a metre away from when you are out front, which could be what people mean by sound developing. Not worthy of some crazy trolling, just a point that may get misconstrued! Cheers, Mike -
The first actual protest singer. A great talent.

He would argue with that (and did). He would point to the long tradition of unknown singers who left us great songs and then point to Leadbelly and Woody Guthrie. Steve
Afraid I would as well - Billie Holiday Strange Fruit springs to mind (1939) Still, not taking away anything from a man with a banjo that kills Fascists!
They were talking about him on the radio as I came home. I have to admit that I've never heard of him. I guess I missed out?
Massively important in 50's/60's collecting all the old American folk songs, promoting the country blues artists like Leadbelly and then handing them down to the next generation including Dylan. Was also banned from US TV because of his political activism. Funnily enough, not really the easiest of people to listen to these days, but the Springsteen album gives his work a nice new twist and his influence was massive.

Cut my musical teeth playing skiffle as a kid so did loads of his repertoire. Also love the Springsteen tribute which got me listening to Seeger's versions again - come full circle so to speak.
-
Toughest one yet - well done everyone.

Really like the country one. (rocker is good just not my bag). Hope you're going to carry on with a new guitarist? -
Clarky's band All The Queen's Ravens .. Really clever 'fusion', amazing live too.
Sorry Clarky I actually preferred the previous outfit. Would love to see Dick Venom live, and then of course there's that Kit Richardson! But I think my current favourite is Burrito Bass' Case Hardin - looking forward to seeing them in Lewes in May.

You would probably be the only one who noticed the difference, but if you really do want to do this is there any way you can group the Jazz Bass songs together so you only have two interruptions?
Presumably he's selling it to fund a photography course?
Meow
