1. Done and asked a landlady friend who had this exact thing happen to her (and she lost) to share on Facebook.
2. Facebook link doesn't find them and they have the world's quietest Twitter account. Not amazingly reassuring.
3. Just used UPS via Parcel2Go for UK delivery - the buyer wasn't there and they kept going twice a day for 3 days until they finally succeeded. Excellent price as well -£12 for 30kg.
4.
Yeah that's all cos of me! Seriously, you're right, I jumped the gun. However, in general terms what I said still has the cold ring of truth. People will talk all day about a music vid with Marta playing a Jamiroquai number, but barely give our own members' music the time of day
True, but huge credit to Paul, 56 votes cast for the December competition. The ghetto is starting to get attention
5.
(Seriously though, I'm very disappointed you've had no other comments. Peeps should sling their headphones on instead of playing silly word games in Off Topic)
Careful Nige, there are a few more comments over in the recording section! Great piece of work, I love the way it is made up of very distinct sections which all flow nicely into one another. Does it qualify for this month's competition?!
6. Been working on a cracking set of songs (from Aretha Franklin to Joss Stone via BB KIng and Cream) creating a nice laid back, bluesey, soulful set. The original idea was to do it with me on acoustic guitar as a duo but some of the songs we like cry out for a band treatment and I am finding it hard to cope (with dodgy hands) with some of the barre chords and could certainly not see lasting a whole set. We have a lovely drummer who is up for this and have space at my work (near Arundel) to rehearse. Looking for a guitarist who can fit the bill, nice relaxed rhythm work and a few tasteful solos. No Bonamassa wannabes please and nobody who needs to turn up with a few tins to rehearsals (sorry, previous bad experience)! We are all mature (49+) and pretty experienced and hope to get a gig set together pretty quickly. Thanks for looking, Mike [email protected]
7.
I wouldn't say I'm narrow-minded but... If he was playing a 6-stringed guitar (which is essentially what he's doing just an octave down) as opposed to playing a 6-stringed bass I wouldn't even say this was average.
Big plus 1 for this - have a listen again around 56 seconds to one minute - Julian Bream or Paco De Lucia wouldn't get away with that! IMO you have shot yourself in the foot with this clip and antagonistic thread title as it is evidence why people dislike solo bass so much! Now for some great solo bass playing hop over to the December composition competition - some great stuff from a couple of our very own BC membership!
8. Congratulations Douglas and Al - Douglas you got my vote as this was a composition competition (lovely alliteration there), and I thought that piece was excellent. Al, as I said in my earlier post, your playing is superb, and a well deserved joint winner (damn, just said joint winner - will have the drug squad all over BC now)!
9.
Baby is going to learn drums as I want a drummer in the future that I can control to some extent lol.
You have so much to learn All the best for June though. 50 this year, time to stop dithering and set my own musical project up.
10. No chance of bringing a bit of a funk feel to the rock band? Plenty of that sort of stuff out there just annoyingly can't pick any great examples right now
11.
Very surprised this has had no interest. It's a quality instrument, and good value.
Excellent instrument and great value but you are selling something very specialised so be patient!
12.
You guys DO know who Francis Dunnery was, don't you? He's certainly not famous for dressing down. Lol.
OK, I'll bite (see what I did there) - apart from a penchant for a Celtic football jersey what dressing up/down is he famous for?
13. No, but 30 days from the end of the month for a holiday home park we do always niggles. Is it a big name chain?
14.
I would like to see him make a Ric.
I had the exact same thought
15. Just saw this tweeted by Bob Harris: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5yJELwAWL-U
16. I find it fascinating that people want to/need to belong, and have even toyed with the idea of studying this concept. What kicked it off for me was religion - there were two occurrences close to each other that sparked this off for me, a thread on here for Christian Bass Players and seeing an organised bikers ride locally where there was a gazebo put up for the Christian Bikers' Society. What really struck me in both of these was the need to be identified by the religion as well as the other interest. Personally I have never knowingly joined any tribe - never been a Mod or Rocker, always liked a wide range of music, never passionately supported a sports team, don't even feel particularly English/British, so would certainly not identify myself as a bass player, but it is very much a part of what I do.
17. Couple of things, the 90's/early 00's Korean models had bolt on necks detracting from the overall sound of a 335. They were however, nicer quality than the Chinese ones that followed. The bigger issue is that of getting a jazzier sound - common misconception with 335's as they are for all intents and purposes a solid guitar, with a block of solid wood going through the body and to which the pickups will be anchored. For a much jazzier sound you really need one of the fatter bodied hollow bodies, possibly with just a neck pickup. Also make sure you use flatwounds and fairly heavy (12) gauge strings.
18. Not the one I thought it was going to be then but as soon as you can post pics I may be able to help - was an Aria dealer 10 years ago and had one of their basses from that period.
19. Is it active, with soapbar pickups and have a five way selector? Could be the 404/5 More recent ones were Chinese built and with the through neck.
20. Nice post and interesting article - thanks.
sorry off topic. but anyone remember Jeff Young's Big Beat show on the now sh*te Radio 1. Radio 1 was a great station back then. maybe im getting old.. no its sh*t. classics like this. i remember when soul to soul first broke out on this very show. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2JeXSESPM4Y
B5, to bring this back on topic a little, it's not just Radio 1 - going back further Capital was brilliant, with early evening shows by real music lovers like Malcolm Cecil's old boss Alexis Korner, Nicky Horn, Adrian Love and many more. Discovered so much music across so many genres back then.
21. Well done all the BC regular composers - was torn between two this month, one a great composition that could easily crop up in a film/advert and the other some fabulous bass playing. As it is a composition competition the former got the vote, but great work Al on the tone and playing! Keep up the good work supporting this Skol - let's hope the competition gets some more support - amazing how few votes compared to the recent poll on a well known cabinet builder
