1. Another very happy BX500 user (and responsible for Bensabre getting one)
Agreed, Carvin need to up there public relations a bit me thinks. Incidentally i have a Carvin 2x10 and it is brilliant and light.
Not sure it is the public relations so much as the availablility - no major distributor behind them flogging them at low margins to every job lot merchant in the country, leaving it down to Phil and the guys at BassGear to give us all great service and a really nicely priced piece of kit!
2.
IIRC, my school had an old Grant Jazz copy and a generic cheapy brand P copy. They weren't great, but they worked. I always wished they would get a double bass, as I really wanted to play double bass at the time but my family could never afford one. There was also one of those wretched Carlsbro Stingray combos with the push buttons which I used to use with the school big band. The thing which used to really break my heart was the stack of interesting but unused older equipment in a corner, which included a couple of valve amps (one was a Selmer T&B ), a Logan String machine keyboard and worst of all, a Rhodes Suitcase piano, which they never took the lid off in the whole six years I was there...
Pretty sure we had a couple of valve amps that would get people all a quiver nowadays! Some huge cabs as well, no idea now what they were.
3. It's upon us, so in preparation the beard has gone (as per Movember's harsh rules) so I guess I need to share some evidence (well it is Halloween after all) http://s1137.photobucket.com/user/Mykesbass/library/Movember
4. We had a beaten up old Burns which we all hated - how little we knew
5. Nice post Clarky. The drummer at the end of the clip depped for us recently - nothing like having to be on your game knowing who else she plays for!!
6.
Well done everyone involved. I've done it the last few years but this year I've decided to do the 'sober for October' in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support, so would have been too much to ask friends and family to donate two months in a row. Been looking for a way to support Movember this year as no-one I know is doing it. Glad I spotted this, will be donating to OP.
Thanks Sharkfinger and good luck with Sober for October (nearly there)!
7.
Joined. I will be attempting to grow a 'tache in the style of Frank Zappa - you will probably have to take my word for it!
What's this forum's golden rule - no pics, it didn't happen!! Thanks for joining Heathy!
8. OK, just Facebooked my old drummer mate who is pretty well connected in both Ipswich and Norwich. Cheers, Mike
9. Where are you the days before and after? Got a couple of mates in Ipswich who might be able to help.
10. Welcome BurritoBass, thanks for joining the team. Glad to hear that you won back in 2009 Paul 5 - selfies indeed! One should LOL or something to that shouldn't one?!
11. Up to four members of Bass Playing 'Taches now - and just 12 days before the beard has to come off! Gigging tonight so will try and get some "before" pics to put up!
12. Hi Paul, Don't think I've ever spent much time in the section but have really enjoyed quite a wide range of BC's recording output - diverse range including one of Clarky's bands, Kit Richardson and Dick Venom, all of which I came across through general discussion. First obvious (to me) one would be to seperate out recordings from recording. Also perhaps encourage posters to put a little more detail in the post - although you can see from the above I have a fairly wide range of musical taste there is plenty I would be happy to give a wide berth to, so a few pointers before clicking on to soundcloud or reverbnation (which sometimes can take a little while to load) would be useful. Of course, the best way to get more people looking would be to rename the section "Off Topic" Good luck with boosting the section - I will try and spend a bit more time in there! Cheers, Mike
13. Might have a punt but don't want to up the bidding if any of you are already on it.
14. Get down to Bass Gear and try a Carvin BX500 - amazing US built amp and cheap as chips.
15. Thanks everyone - aah, you've made me feel all warm inside! No going back now
16. Decided I must do Movember this year - my guitarist mate had prostate cancer last year, fortunately caught early and hopefully dealt with. I've set up a team space on the Movember site - Bass Playing 'Taches and would love it f some of you fine folks would care to join me. I've got to loose the beard first which is going to be the first hurdle so would love some company! Anyone who would like to get involved please sign up here: http://uk.movember.com/mospace/6607589 and let's have a laugh whilst promoting a serious cause! Cheers, Mike
17.
It is worth noting that in their application guidelines for the Kappalite 3015, Eminence state that this driver is “Recommended for vented professional audio enclosures for full-range or as mids.”. The driver is not recommended for low frequency use, or for bass guitar applications, and using it as such is using the driver for a purpose other than intended. Whilst the Kappalite 3015 is capable of reproducing frequencies as low as 40Hz, Bottom E on a bass guitar in standard tuning is a touch over 41Hz (41.323), already dangerously close to the stated lower limit for the driver, and even at moderate power levels capable of pushing the driver to significant levels of excursion. A semitone down from this – very easily achieved when playing live – is more than adequate to take the speaker outside of this. Drop D tuning will take things down to under 37Hz, open C on a 5-string is a little under 31Hz. Put simply, this is intended as – and described and sold as – a mid-range/full-range driver, and is unsuitable for use in the application you have chosen.
I just checked the Eminence website and the recommended speaker is the Basslite. I'm now thoroughly confused as this has a stated frequency range from 52Hz, so if they are saying that the reason your speaker failed was because you went too low how are their bass speakers meant to cope?
18.
Is it for sale
Wow, that's a bit out of the blue! No sorry, firm believer in never say never but pretty sure this will never be for sale!
19. Unlike Dave's service this feedback is very late - couple of instrument cables from him next day delivery and great cables. Thanks!
20. Jim Marshall - like many with Fender, I'm not a huge fan of his products but, like Leo, he certainly helped the development of rock music.
21.
If you were going to buy, I suggest 'Revelator'. Probably their best regarded studio album. Certainly my favourite.

Really nice and just ordered Revelator off the back of this but still to me, the repertoire is falling short of the talent, whereas, chris_b (who seems to know my musical tastes better than I do) has hit the nail on the head with this great Junior Wells cover.
TT at one of Clapton's Crossroads festivals. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R9I6lQNK6Ok
Thanks for the suggestions - I look forward to living with Revelator for a while and see if it grows on me.
22. And does he have the right bass for metal?
23. Known abot these for a long time just never got around to listening. Really love the sound, esp live taking a browse around YouTube. Just one thing, and hence the request from any fans on BC, I felt the material was just a little lacklustre and didn't live up to the excellent performances. Any suggestions gratefully received. Cheers, Mike
