1.
Just about to jump in the car to leave, it's a 3 hour trip each way, would have been much cheaper to post it!
Not the same though! I did about a two houd detour as part of a seven hour trip to pick my Shuker up - worth every bum-numbing mile
 2.
I received a job request this morning that requires fretless playing. That's the fourth request I have had in recent months, but I haven't owned a fretless bass for years as I never got called to use it. Fretless bass was very common in the 80's and 90's, but I hear very little of it in today's music. Is it making a come back?
Just a thought, there is such a glut of mellow, acoustic, singer-songwriter type stuff out there - perhaps the thinking is that fretless would suit the laid back vibe? Sorry, realise this is a sensible response and nowhere near as much fun as Disco Spitfires!
 3. Spalted Maple - I don't really like natural finishes on basses but drool over any spalted maple bass or guitar that I see!
 4.
Zero frets, I'm convinced they make a huge difference. They probably don't
I've got zero frets - makes a huge difference
 5. PRS (guitars and basses not the Performing Rights Society) - I hate them with a passion, even more now I have one of their gig bags - thinking of unpicking all the embroidery!
 6.
Much better. Looks like actual effort went into designing the body! I have a Washburn Taurus with a similar body shape. Curvalicious. Nice!
Got to disagree here - this one looks like a lot of thought went in to making it look like every other bass out there whereas the purple one looked like someone was having a bit of fun designing something a bit different.
 7. Jon Shuker - he made me a fabulous 5 string fretless P - 8th row down on the gallery: http://www.shukerguitars.co.uk/pbassgallery.html (and no, not a sales pitch)!
 8.
And Cort make G&L Tributes, Lakland Skylines, some Fender and Ibanez models so the pedigree is there. The GB74 is a fantastic "Jazz'a like" but with a Jazz/MM pickup combination and coil tapping.
Yes, GB74 is a great bass. Can't believe they get overlooked in the headlong rush to Squier, they are far superior IMO.
 9. Amazing, bought some acoustic guitar strings off them 9 days ago, put them on and the top two strings went off (large patches of tarnish) as I was playing. Emailed to let them know, within an hour they replied and are sending a replacement set. The strings do have a good reputation so hoping it was a one off so won't name them here, just thought this was exceptional service from Strings Direct.
 10. Some great basses by makers like Cort and Aria that have virtually no resale value so can be real secondhand bargains.
 11. What was going to be our biggest, most credible gig to date turned out to be a bit of a wash-out. Outdoor gig with other bands including Tir na Nog and The Coal Porters. Heavens opened five minutes into the set and most of the audience fled to the relative safety of their tents. A few stalwarts braved teh rain (plastic ponchos over tie dye tee shirts - well it was a Grateful Dead Appreciation Society show)! At least the thunder and lightning held off until the headliners! Played well and band sounded great with proper PA, I did manage to completely forget one riff and it wasn't until 2/3 of the way home I remembered it!!
 12.
They didn't fit with the band's look, and none of them want to wear matching leather pants So I've bought some gold lamé lederhosen for the next gig
You depping for BigRedX then?

 14. 66p for my Carvin. A bit of a trawl of my memory banks and I came up with the Cornford Harlequin (yes, sorry, a guitar amp) which at full price works out at £133.16 per watt!!
 15. I'd check out some of the lesser name brands like Cort and Aria before making a decision.
 16. Another 60+ pool of songs - some disappear for a while and then come back but every gig there will be something different, and often we'll throw something in on the night. Ours is all quite simple stuff - Dylan, Creedence, 60's singer songwriter sort of stuff so fairly easy to be flexible.
 17. Is it a PubCo pub (Enterprise Inns, Punch Taverns etc) they're dropping like flies around here.
 18.
Don't do a "Del Boy" when relaxing at the bar matry! Hahaha. Hope the gig is fun for you.
Brilliant scene - almost as good as the Gandhi gag! Was a top gig, three piece - two acoustics (one doubling on mandolin) and me on bass. Really receptive audience, loads of Dylan including some not soo obvious ones, and a decent payer. Bring back wine bars I say!!
 19. Got a gig tonight in a WIne Bar - didn't know they still existed!! Better roll the sleeves of my jacket up and learn how to slap
 20.
Can't wait, a whole night of in yer' face, three chords, twelve bars, 2 drums, rock n' roll !!!
Fixed - great to see these bands that can conjure up so much energy from so little. Must check them out.
 21.
how about some tasteful Little Feat
Is there any distasteful Little Feat? Steve Earle should be on your list.
