  1. No Woman No Cry - Gilberto Gil and Stephen Marley The Playing For Change team do it again! Love the Portuguese version of the lyrics to kick things off, the Stephen Marley's voice - wow! Sorry, can't seem to embed (not YouTube), but the link works and is safe. http://mgtrk.musictoday.com/c/7/eyJhaSI6MTcxMjY0MTgsImUiOiJtaWtlLmhvd2VsbEBvdXRsb29rLmNvbSIsInJpIjoiNTEyNDEyMzUiLCJycSI6IjAyLWIyNDI4NS04M2I1ZDliMzZjMTM0OGJjYWYwNWY1MDM1ODAwZDYwZSIsIm0iOnRydWUsInVpIjoiMyIsInVuIjoiIiwidSI6Imh0dHBzOi8vcGxheWluZ2ZvcmNoYW5nZS5jb20vdmlkZW9zL25vLXdvbWFuLW5vLWNyeS1mdC1naWxiZXJ0by1naWwtc3RlcGhlbi1tYXJsZXktbWVybWFucy1tb3NlbmdvLXNvbmctYXJvdW5kLXRoZS13b3JsZCJ9/uauf3mLPsN4aq_slBayfoA
  2. Love those types of gigs @jonno1981. All the best with the surgery recovery!
  3. Bass Bros (good reputation) are selling two 20 year old one for £1549 and £1469. Even taking into account the 20 years difference, that's way short of the 75% ballpark I suggested earlier. But it would put Bass Bros at the top of my list of people to call for a commission sale valuation as they would be able to gauge the level of interest.
  4. Hi Helen, That's great - always nice when it is a local sale! I'll send you a private message on here so we can sort this directly.
  5. Using a specialist shop gives you: Their customer base Their reputation and credibility Their market knowledge Somewhere easy to view and try your bass These shops are not going to want your bass hanging around for ages, so talk with them, and if they come up with a good price let them have a short period of exclusivity. If you do advertise it yourself, I read recently that second hand values for 'as new' basses are around 70-80% of the new price (street price not RRP). Good luck whichever way you choose, and if it is the shop route and you are in London, give Wunjo a try.
  6. That really is a cracking bass line. Thanks @stevie
  7. I think (sorry if I'm wrong) that @greyparrot may have done something?
  8. Thank you. Was racking my brain for her name. Spoke many times (not from the pub I hasten to add)! Lovely lady indeed.
  9. And was part of the wonderful Heads Hands and Feet.
  10. And those almost Country style harmonies!
  11. He covers this nicely in one of the videos posted here (sorry can't remember which one), and it is a very interesting point. He tried playing this solo wizzardry live and discovered there was no audience for it. However, after a few Youtube videos he found there was an online fanbase, and has very cleverly built this. As a fellow 'old and funky in a good way' I'm pleased to see that there are alternative routes to an audience for talented players such as Charles.
  12. Yes, must admit, quietly, that this was one of the attractions of the job!
  13. It was part of my job to go drinking with them on a few occasions 😎 Probably partly the reason I don't drink anymore!
  14. Not as displaced as I'm going to be! (South London via Sussex). Oh, and ready to travel for music, so all good.
  15. Thanks Pete - yes, got to be a bit livelier than it is around here!
  16. At the ripe old age of 60 I have got myself a cracking new job so will be moving at the end of the month to Wolverhampton (or nearby). After putting any band plans on hold knowing I would eventually be moving I am itching to get started once I get there. Any recommendations - jam nights, open mic, rehearsal rooms, local band finding pages other than Bandmix/Join My Band (oh, and I don't have a Facebook account, but if there are good resources on there I could be tempted to open a new page). Genre wise, I'm quite open, but leaning towards a sort of Americana, Country-Blues-Rock original music sort of vibe.
  17. As someone who, like @Mickeyboro, worked extensively for some years in the reissue world (we had the pleasure of working together on quite a few releases), I can give you a factual answer for the first question and an informed guess for the second. These outtakes have been tied up in ownership rights. Anything a band recorded, even if it didn't get released was the property of the record company (often in perpetuity or for a long period). Live recording would also be subject to re-recording restrictions - so even if Thin Lizzy had left Vertigo their old contract would prohibit them from re-recording (in any form) any of their Vertigo recorded material. Major labels only became much more active on the reissue market late on, as it wasn't a big enough money spinner for them, allowing companies like the one I worked for to put out these tracks. Only once they saw the royalties that we were paying them (300.000 copies of an Alan Parsons Project compilation) did they start to take notice. That explains the 'where have they been'. The 'who buys this' is really down to a small but ardent fanbase and completists. One of the bands I worked closely with was Deep Purple. We could have sold a couple of thousand copies of a CD of Ritchie Blackmore farting in a jar. The fanbase is quickly contracting for the reason your wife points out, but there is a new generation of fan - look at some of the niche stuff that Record Store Day throws out every year!
  18. Hope you've practiced the Theme From Z Cars...
  19. Nordstrand Big Singles. They do an EMG 35 fitting. I heard these on a demo of a high end Ibanez and loved them (annoyingly never found the video again)!
  20. Oh, and hoping the Firebird/Thunderbird still gets built (not that I could commission it)!
  21. Another absolutely stunning build. Congratulations.
  22. Nice! Would love to attain that level. 1 x 45 with a couple of covers thrown in was the best I got to.
  23. Used to do about 2 hours in total with a 15 min break, do usually was 1x45 and 1x60. Pubs, holiday parks and clubs around Sussex.
  24. Yep. But those compilations introduced so many to the genre.
