1. Played my second one of the weekend, local pub last night only to have it slightly overshadowed when my wife texted me to tell me my old mate and drummer from school days (35 years ago) was on television - playing outside the Palace
 2. Don't know if you are anywher near BassGear but I popped in and tried their Carvin head, AB'd it against an Aguilar and far preferred it. Then Vic told me it cost £369!! Not a super light mini amp but much lighter than the Hartke. Mike
 3. Try those silk gloves Nigel's gone on about in the past and then you can go all Spinal Tap!! I did put flats (not Thomastic) on an acoustic once - quiet but vey lovely.
 4. Andy just bought my Gort GB75 Fretless - top man and hassle free sale. Thanks Andy.
 5. Got a regular gig at a holiday park in Hastings on Sunday then a Jubilee gig in my local on Monday. Won't be celebrating personally but happy to take a gig!
 6.
Great looking bass and with the ebony fretboard, I'd say this is a bit of a bargain! Shame I don't play fretless... Good luck with the sale!
Thanks Nik, shame, I work just around the corner so could have delivered as well!!
 7. SOLD http://photobucket.com/mykesbassCort Having recently had my perfect bass built for me by Jon Shuker it is time to move on my Cort. This is one of the last of the Korean builds, has a fabulous white see through finish on ash body, Mighty Mite MM and Jazz pick-ups, 9v Active, loads of EQ control including mid boost switch. Licensed Hipshot machine heads, Neutrik locking jack input and strap-locks. I had Jon Shuker put an ebony fretless board on which has dot side markers and is currently strung with RotoSound pressure wounds to give a compromise between flats and roundwounds, something that works for me but isn't everyone's cup of tea. Sorry, but as Jon hasn't been able to supply me a case for the new bass yet this is being sold without one. Also, as it is a bit of an unusual bass I'd prefer not to send but for potential buyers to try before they buy. Current non customised Chinese versions of this bass are selling for about £450, over £100 less than the Korean models retailed at. I'm looking for £350 or may be interested in a lightweight head with valve pre-amp. Thanks, Mike
 8.
Questions already been asked, but where do they all go. Think how many basses have been produced in the last say 50 years by Fender alone, awhere are they ? why are (say) 70s Precisions so rare ? OK I can understand music shops saying theyre not worth much when taking them as part exchange etc, but I cant see that many actually ending up in skips. Must be millions in lovely old tweed hardcases sat lofts and under beds, with ageing owners like me thinking......Someday !
But if we knew the answer to this then nobody could list their appaling 70's Fender as "rare"
 9. Popped in to Bass Gear today - had three meetings in Oxford and the middle one blew me out so I had a couple of hours to kill. Vic obviously has taken on board everything that has been said on here about Phil, before he even asked if there was anything I wanted to buy he made me a cuppa! Had a good chat and then tried a couple of heads, very keen on one (possibly the cheapest in the shop) and will return with my bass to try it in a couple of months. Really refreshing to see no pressure whatsoever, no worries that I wasn't here to buy on the spot. Oh, and as I play five string fretless, the bass I was given to try the amp was a £4,000 F Bass! Top shop, and two absolute gentlemen. Will be back when the money is in the bank!
 10.
Duck signed my ticket after we had a chat about Fender necks (P v J) and how he missed playing with Al Jackson.
Had a really busy weekend so only just seen this really sad news. Buzzy, I met him with Cropper and Booker T (and Taj Mahal) at the end of the night one year at Bishopstock. Al Jackson Was the main topic of conversation for all of them an how it wasn't the same without him.
 11.
(I know! Funk and snooker!)
Sorry Matt, can't answer your question but Snooker and Funk - Steve Davis is one of the UK's best know Jazz-Funk fans - was much derided for it back in the day!!
 12. Love Flamenco, ever since seeing Paco De Lucia with Al Di Meola and John McLaughlin at the Albert Hall. This is really odd - Flamenco/Rock/Leonard Cohen hybrid but I love it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SOUL80lm0dw
 13.
Thanks for everyone's advice. The gay bit isn't important; the killer for me is that I just don't see any musical worth in any version of this song. Of course teeth will be gritted. It's only 3 mins of toe curling pain. I'm a professional; I can deal with this!
You don't see any musical worth in it but the Gloria Jones version is a great dance song - I know a full dance floor is always a massive buzz to me.
 14. OK, promise to post some better pics tomorrow but picked this up today on my way home from Hexham (to Sussex and the roads/weather were appalling, hence no time for a nice photo session). 5 String old school P Bass style with amarello fingerboard - should be a lot tougher than maple and been dyed to give vintage look. Body colour is somewhere between cream ant butterscotch blond - a bit like a thin mushroom soup - sounds terrible but looks great, and a Nordstrand pick-up. Sounds huge - gigging it on Saturday, will post a full review afterwards. I am one very happy man!!
 15. Picked mine up today - on route from Hexham to Sussex so knackered - will post with picks tomorrow
 16. I'm a big fan of pressure wound Roto's - a nice flats/rounds compromise that really works for me. p.s. pedant alert - "which strings"
 17.
I'm still waiting for my Fender custom shop pickups to be delivered after waiting almost a month. The shop has to order them from Fender and, supposedly, they are taking their time to deliver, although I suspect that cash flow problems may be the issue.
Hmm, wouldn't judge the shop too quickly - when I had a shop (a Fender dealer) it took me 4 months to get some US Jaguar saddles for a customer. Good job he had been in direct contact with Fender as to start with he thought it was me messing him around.
 18.
Anything with the word 'CAT' in it does it for me...
IIRC 29 makes it even worse!
 19.
I think the new 10 year plan has just been approved and the emphasis is on using brown field sites. I think Kent has a target of 3000 homes, so that makes the Sussex total very high.
The figures for Mid Sussex alone is now 10,600, down from 17,000 - that's just Burgess Hill, Haywards Heath and East Grinstead plus the surrounding countryside and villages!
 20.
Yes! Love his solo stuff. Not such a big fan of what his daughter has said about him since his death
Some very odd stuff in that family - if you ever get to find an affordable copy of his out of print autobiography - that'll make your toes curl!
 21.
For me it's this
Beat me to it - have you heard this version - recorded just before his death with all the melancholy of the lyrics coming through: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uDcaydHVliM
