We're doing "Serve Somebody" along with a lot of Dylan stuff. Just don't listen to (oh, alright, go on then for a laugh) Desolation Row - got to be the worst harmonica solo EVER (and that's saying something from someone who listens to Paul Jones' Radio 2 show)!!

Another great cable and some exceptionally fast responses and advice when working out which route to take - jack or xlr. Also next day delivery. Thanks Dave.

"I am not a music man" so what's with the Guild acoustic and numerous fx pedals in your feedback then?

I think really with bass necks you don't want one that is so thin you can see it's ribs but also at the same time not so fat that you start getting folds and orange peel skin.
What's wrong with being a lefty liberal namby pamby well at least until some kids start rioting and looting stuff from shops, then i go into a hulk-like murderous rage. I'm back to normal now though
That was short lived EH
I've asked Jimmy for a little more background but the inscription reads: "built by Jimmy Coppolo for Jason Langley. Thanks for all the years of friendship, support and the push to get these basses up and running!" Jimmy told me Jason was his best friend and I've spoken to Jason a few times via TalkBass. Lovely guy and super friendly, being Jimmy's mate means he seems to get first shout on quite a few of Jimmy's best basses & has owned several of them. I like the fact that this particular one was made especially for him
Then he goes and flogs it - very respectful Gorgeous looking bass btw - his loss, your gain!
I'm fairly immune to neck profiles..
Glad someone else is, thought I was odd! Played a 5 string P Bass the other day, asked if it had a J style neck and was shown it next to the Jazz - big difference and I didn't really notice.
Modernest valve rig ever. Rackmount? Digitech? Multieffects? Parametric eq?
Only using the preamp setting from it and it is sounding very nice. It may yet get replaced by something more straightforward - keeping my eyes peeled! At least it's a Class D free zone - gotta start somewhere!

Thanks to great purchases from Chris (Beedster) and Mike (Zephead) and a couple of hours of perseverance, I am now the owner of a lovely sounding rig. A relatively lightweight (well I have to lift a far heavier mower in and out of the car on a daily basis for my work) Peavey Classic 120 watt valve power amp, and a Digitech PB8 valve preamp/multi-effects, going through my Purple Chilli 1x12. The perseverance was due to my very luddite leanings, I really wanted knobs to twiddle, but eventually got a nice sound out of the parametric eq on the Digitech. The sound is very full and rich but also exceptionally articulate - can really hear the bass being played (which means I'm going to have to brush up on my technique)! Seriously though, the definition and character of the notes is quite an ear opener. Looking forward to hearing it in a band setting and also getting adventurous enough to try a few more settings!

Just bought Mike's Digitech BP8. Easy transaction, fabulous packaging (must have shares in the bubblewrap company)!!

Just bought a Peavey valve power amp from Chris - lovely piece of kit (and the Peavey's not bad either) Seriously though, great guy to deal with.
Here is the gig guide for the Star at Bentworth. This is a very small country pub in rural Hampshire. Definitely a gig that’s off the radar for all but local-ish bands. Check out the gear in the photos; GB, Warwick, Mesa Boogie. "Decent gear” is getting gigged all over. Not 100% sure they fit the label but my favourite in that funky/soulful jazzy style was Working Week.

Come on guys, serious BASS related issue being discussed here, plenty of threads for the politics of the causes of this dismay.

Very pleased to see this: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-14458505 as the owner of Rockbottom is an old friend of my mate who runs my local music shop. Apparently he was in the shop at the time and they tried to torch it but he managed to put the fire out but couldn't save any of the gear.
Listen with your ears. Your eyes will stitch you up something chronic
So, so true! Don't some people call it the toilet test - what the band sounds like when you're in the pub toilet is what they really sound like - not what you think they sound like when you're in front watching them? I remember experiencing this once watching one of Suffolk's biggest self promoters - didn't realise why all the other muso's were so rude about him until he spectacularly failed the above test!!

Big fan of the Faces, and in fact, among all the Dylan we do "How Come" in our set. Got a feeling that the Jerry Garcia Band weren't exactly a bastion of sobriety Think I'm going to work on a similar idea as yours to pin it down a bit more whilst putting in some appropriate flurries.
Senor is one of my fave Dylan songs (well, at least one of my faves off Street Legal ). I've just joined a Faces tribute band and, although my style is quite melodic anyway, I find that Ronnie Lane's lines often leave behind any notion of rhythmic support of the song in place of a rather dubious harmonic exploration (presumptious, moi?). I put this down to the fact that the band were absolutely plastered most of the time anyway, so I'm trying to retain some of the sense of his harmonic playing while pinning down the songs a little more firmly. +1 for the shout out for Mark Andes - great work on The Family That Plays Together too.
Found the clip and now had time to listen to it on headphones, some strange old stuff going on here - not quite sure what to make of it. Any John Kahn fans out there?

Band I'm in is adding the Jerry Garcia version of Dylan's "Señor" to our repertoire. I'm used to being a full on driving rhythm player and this is all odd little runs and fills. Looking forward to the challenge. Will post a YouTube link to the track when I'm not on iPhone (Luddite hasn't worked that bit out yet)!
-
So, now I'm nicely established in my current band I've decided to go retro (well, I'm retro already - just thought the gear should catch up)!! so have just just relieved Beedster of his Peavy Classic Valve Power amp and Zephead of his Digitech PB8 valve pre-amp/multieffect. Looking forward to putting this together with my Purple Chilli and hoping for a lovely vintage vibe! P Bass build to follow very shortly!

People may well be contributing without us realising it - don't forget, we need people to read the posts - the stats show a lot more people get involved this way than by actually posting. Not everyone feels comfortable putting their views out there, and some may feel intimidated by some of the responses - I asked once for some help with a song, just couldn't hear the changes properly and said so in the post. First response "listen to the record"! Yeah, thanks!! Fortunately faith was soon restored by a perfect notation by ChrisB. It is a shame that those that use the site but don't post are not seen as participating and therefore remain newbies for years!
