Bump for this coming Friday's gig.
It has, although I don't know if this will result in any more choice in basses. http://www.andertons.co.uk/Pages/store-refit-2011.asp . One or two good bargains to be had there at the moment too. I don't see how Guitarguitar can get away with calling a store in Epsom 'London'. That's like having a Newcastle store in Carlisle!
Heathrow, Stanstead, Luton and Gatwick have got away with it for years!!

Avoid diuretic drinks - tea, coffee, orange juice, berrocca and of course, alcohol for some time before the gig, but also, impoprtantly, make sure you are well hydrated during the day. My day job is gardening and not everywhere I work has a convenient tree to go behind, so I often go from about 8.30 to 5 without peeing, but if I have any of the above i.e. a large gin for breakfast, I'm in trouble and have to find a friendly supermarket by lunchtime.
Has anyone else found different solutions, such a hiring local halls on a goodwill / exchange of services basis ? kindly caretakers letting someone use a school room in the evening ? something more creative ?
Schools are encouraged/required to provide extended services so may well be a good call. Try and go for a night when other things are on in there so that you can split the lock-up fee and don't expect to be able to go on until late. The school where I am a Governor has dance groups, the local marching band (which uses a classroom in the winter and the playground in summer), and a karate club. Get to know the Premises Manager - they usually have a bad reputation but I think that is because the nature of their work puts naturally puts them in conflict with other staff and users of teh school. Our one is great once you get to know her and has often got me out of trouble with overflow parking for the rugby club. I fully understand the "truce" problem - last thing you want is someone hedge-trimming at 8 on a Sunday morning or someone tinkering with an engine late at night justifying it because you have been playing your cello. Hadn't really occurred to me before.

I'm with TNIT on it being fine before 9PM - I think an earlier post suggesting 11 is pushing it a bit, and as long as it is 1/2 to 1 hour even if neighbours (with a u) did complain they wouldn't have any case with the council.

Rickenfaker on eBay being sold as a Rickenbacker.

Now removed! Hopefully another Basschat success? -
Sounds exactly like Lewisham Music Day where the organisers were on the side of the stage with stopwatches giving you a countdown! I know a lot of local bands far preferred the Mayday TUC event, probably for your reasons above Bilbo!
Noone makes any money? None of the PA companies? The marquee rental people? The food/drink retailers? The local car parks? The local pubs? The bus/train companies? Seems to me that everyone makes something except the musicians. As for free exposure for the acts; I have never heard anyone get a gig because 'we saw you at MitP'. Its not all bad; its a nice day out for families, possible exposure to new music etc but I am not convinced that the event is all altrusim.
OK, fair point about PA and Marquee companies, but it is not as if there is a promoter making off the back of the local musos who regularly compete to be part of this as it is thought of so highly locally. I can fully appreciate and support people making apoint of not playing for free on principle, but I really think explotative is probably a bit harsh.
I find the event a tad exploitative and won't play there,
In what way - nobody is making any money out of it and surely it's a great chance for both original and cover bands to get exposure to a large audience? OK, most of them will never get their plump Suffolk backsides out to any other local gigs but it is still a great chance to make some new fans. Unless of course you're referring to the local guitar shop opening and taking a couple of hundred quid for the two years I was there

Emailed for pictures of the back this morning - no reply yet...... -
Another satisfied OBBM customer here - aside from all the audio qualities which I'm sure could be argued about until the caws come home, the things I like about his thick cable are that it coils nicely and doesn't get tangled up like thinner cables do, and the size makes it extremely robust. And he's a top man to deal with.

Action Stations! Do you like a high action?

Isn't 1cm at the 5th fret going to give serious intonation issues? -

OK, bit of nonsense really, and nothing life threatening, Rehearsed last night and as soon as I started playing discovered a tiny thorn in the tip of my third finger - made stopping the notes (fretless so don't want to get that fretting argument going again) really painful and ended up doing some strange alternatives. One of the problems with being a gardener - the other being that the constant wearing of leather gloves keeps softening my callouses. Anyone got anything more dramatic - sawmill workers etc?

Nice work. Forget the Sansamp, looking at your sig all you really need is the Stella and kebabs to come on board!

Friday 24th June at Poet's Corner 33 Montgomery Street, Hove playing Dylan and assorted bluesy, country, folky rock. n.b Gearstalkers will probably feel a little underwhelmed

What would your ideal Class D amp be if you could spec it yourself?
Mykesbass replied to Clarky's topic in Amps and Cabs
I'd spec it so that when it went wrong out of guarantee your average decent amp repair man could fix it, in other words completely unlike my Yamaha BB500H -
Lo Mike, yes your prob right about the Eminence being choice. That being the case what would be your price for the Orange? Thanks, Dave.
Hi Dave, OK, £30 plus carriage at cost for the Celestion seeing as 4 ohm is a bit less sought after, £35 for the Eminence (same with carriage) and £30 for the Black Widow (carriage will probably be a lot more on that - it is a monster)! Just for everyone's info, the Eminence Basslite is rated at 150 watts, 300 watts peak. Cheers, Mike -
I see Clarky finally got rid of that Caps Lock key
Bit premature I know, but I`m looking for an 8ohm driver so, Can I get first shout on: A/ the Celestion Orange if whoever buys the cab doesn`t want it or, B/ the Eminence Neo if they do. And also, what prices might you want for the drivers ? Ta. MM
Hi MM, Wouldn't that be the other way around? Eminence is 8ohm, Celestion 4. I think the Eminence is going to be the most likely candidate to go with the cab being that most folks seem to want 8ohm and lightweight, but yes, if it doesn't go with it I'll give you a shout. I would have though £35 plus carriage at cost would be reasonable - 1/2 new price. Cheers, Mike -
OK, I knew this would be hard to put a value on, it is a great little cab and has a choice of three great drivers, but stuff is selling for so little now that I realise that this is going to be hard to sell for anything like it is worth, so: bumped for swaps - try me with anything musically related. (mic, fx, who knows)! Got this as a trade from Thornybank when I needed a very small cab to match my Yamaha BB110. Unfortunately, shortly afterwards the matching class D head went south and I couldn't find anyone to repair it. Absolutely solid construction, yet with a neo driver a very easy one hand lift. Due to needing a 4 ohm cab for the Yamaha I got a Celestion Orange 300w driver for it but I also have the original, fabulous but crazy heavy Peavy Black Widow or an 8 ohm Emminence Basslite neo to load it with. The drivers that don't go with the cab will be available for sale seperately. Tough one to put a price on, but bearing in mind neither the Celestion or Eminence had very much use (and were never thrashed as they were only used in an acoustic trio (EUB, acoustic guitar and singer) and cost around £70 new I'm going to punt this out at [s]£120[/s] £100 or make me an offer with your choice of speaker from the above. n.b. pics are Thornybanks and the driver pictured is not one of those offered here and the tour sticker has beend removed
