Also does very good honest deals on commission sales.

Just won this on Ebay for £20 - don't think it was listed quite correctly - one of those random searches that are worth doing every now and again. Just took my fancy at that price with the nice vintage vibe. Will put a couple of neo Celestions I've got into it and see where we go from there. May be back looking for ideas on porting later. Anyone else watch the Live Aid documentary that followed "When Harvey Met Bob"? Loved Alan Lancaster's Travis Bean - it looked HUGE! Any other favourite spots?

Also worked on some old Deep Purple archive material so got to work with some complete anoraks - I guess a little rubbed off! The Bongo (and your playing) is great BTW, keep posting!

Nice one - Happy Christmas GreyParrot. Glad to see some appreciation for Chas & Dave, much better musicians than most would give them credit for. One thing though, although Dave was the bass player in the band, Chas was the one who had done all the bass sessions being part of Joe Meek's Outlaws set up (at one point along with Richie Blackmore), then working with Jerry Lee Lewis and Gene Vincent. So two great bass players in one underrated band - bet that doesn't happen too often!

It used to be a badge of honour having an almost unliftable bass to go with the humongous rig! A lot here has been said before on the balance of a bass - I know I changed because my previous bass would bite into my shoulder really badly. Next bass, although I'd looked for something lighter, weighs exactly the same, just doesn't feel that way on the strap.

Rant Alert........ Only gone through the first few as my blood was starting to boil, and I've decided (early New Year resolution) to stop being a grumpy old man, BUT, most of these are NOT unsung - prime examples Bernard Edwards and Duck Dunn!!!!!!!! OK, I'll accept Tommy Cogbill being unsung, but what a lack of thought by the compilers. Oh, and no Tony Goggle Rant over.

OK, I'll give the specific song that prompted theis - Bob Dylan's Tom Thumb Blues - the bass starts of on G on the E string in the intro but then goes up the octave in the body of the song so that the low V can be played - thus playing G in the same octave as the guitarist, although the D is obviously lower. From this I have the sneaking feeling, if a 5th string was available, Harvey Brooks have used it. This also sort of agrees with Jennifer's post regarding the arrangement. Thanks for the replies. Got an old bass line that is in G and uses the root - V pattern. To do this it is played up the octave as obviously, when the track was recorded there wasn't the option of a low D. What would others do - play it authentically, going up into the guitar registar, or play it down the octave? Thanks, Mike

Seen a couple of good mentions of Status Hotwire Half Rounds and sounds like they could be what I'm looking for when my neck returns with a new fretless board. Just a bit concerned from the Status website about scale lengths - the long scale are for 35" or 34" with through body stringing but the medium scale are for 32". Will the long scale be ok for 34" through bridge stringing?
