Love a bit of melancholia - this one is great in that it finally reveals the song for what it truly was, not the wonderful but happy, bright sounding original by the Mamas & Papas:

Original house music..EDIT..or all house music..
Mykesbass replied to bubinga5's topic in General Discussion
Didn't really like it then, still not keen now, however, I was working for a record telesales company at the time - funnily enough one of my calls was a shop in Evesham - and house music really opened up black music to all sorts of areas. Before it there was a real split - only the big cities with a sizable black poulation would buy black music, but this stuff seemed to break down a lot of boundaries. Surprised you missed the daddy of them all: -
Surely it's a good thing for them to be out there making an effort and doing their stuff in what is a very tough business. And, sad as it may be, we all know how important image is these days. Plus, who amongst us doesn't need money to survive, never mind indulge our musical fantasies? TBH, I'm a bit surprised about the negativity shown in the above comments, or is BC turning into a forum for bedroom slappers who think the world owes them a living just because they know one end of a bass from the other?
Valid points Flyfisher, but they have come on a bit strong and there is the faintest whiff of BS about the ad - they're another bunch of guys trying to make it happen, good luck to them, but all the nonsense about having good solicitors and their slightly arrogant demands, I think they have received just about the right amount of healthy BC scepticism.

Don't know about stereo, but these guys make very good quality instruments: http://www.imuso.co.uk/Bass-Guitars/7361-/...r-Jetglow-Black

OK, don't know if "faults" was a typo but a couple of those were pretty dodgy Bub However, as a sort of guilty pleasure I'll 'fess up to:

Will catch it on listen again - I'm off out

I would have thought for regularly gigging pub bands it is a bit of give and take - the band builds up a bit of its own following but the pubs need to build a reputation for themselves as a music venue, not necessarily promoting individual bands but making sure the locals know there will be a good band there EVERY week.
Yes, Sade, fantastic I compare "Sade" the band to the "Blockheads" Before you laugh at that comment, what I mean is that both front man and woman, and both bands, although different in styles, stand out still today as completely unique and so listenable
I can see where you are coming from - absolute top drawer musos behind an enigmatic front person. Love both of them.

I thought she was great at the time and still love her music. Yes, she did have a limited vocal range/style but I don't personally feel that detracts from the fact that teh band made some great music. Would love to find a copy of the Smooth Operator 12" breakdown mix.
Legendary Dr Z Guitar cab made in USA,( only selling as moving up to 4 x 10 Dr Z) This cab is in great condition but missing the Z logo on front.
Have a bump - Dr Z makes amazing guitarist kit, but the laugh was because I tour managed one of his endorsees - we spent forever retrieving the badge from the floor of the bus every night!!
I cant beleive im having to defend x factor but how many people that slag it off actually watch it? I have made this point already but none of the contestants left in have been going for the Mariah thing this year most of the critisism comes from people who have a pole up their arse about pop music and simon cowell. I still dont see the connection with Ellie either except they are all in the main stream arena. I like Ellie and some x factor contestants, I dont like simon cowell or jedward but I live with these things without worrying too much
Well I guess if I'm going to judge X Factor by the few bits that have come out of it and onto general radio play then you are entitled to judge me as a person with a pole up my arse (not now Lech) about pop music. OK if I've lumped all the shows together but we have Alexandra Burke, who in my opinion made one of the worst cover versions ever, SuBo with that warbling vibrato who was probably quite good when she belted out a song in her local but not much more, Girls Aloud, that second rate tenor, don't really make for a glowing report card for this unashamed pop music fan.
Maybe but i would rather listen to that drivel than any of those Thrash/death/Speed etc metal bands people rave over and whose singer just seem to shout in a very deep gruff voice with as much distortion as possible. I cant beleive how that can be called talent either but no one dares put that garbage down on here. It takes all sorts.
Now I will agree with you on that one! Plus the fact that some of that type of music is as equally manufactured as any of Simon Cowell's stable.
-
Exactly, they are told how and what to sing by the Judges. This doesn't mean they cant sing or dont have talent IMO. I thought Ellie's timing and some notes were off but people will forgive that because she hasnt been on X Factor. Its all nonsense.
Sorry, don't agree, I think this is what the average karaoke wannabe on X-Factor and all the punters buying into it think is what passes for good singing.
-
Wasn't going to get sucked in here, but these comparisons to X Factor have tipped the balance. I like Elton, I like Ellie, don't like this version of this song, but to compare it to X Factor contestants from what I've heard of them is frankly deranged. All the female singers off there seem to be programmed to overblow everything - straight out of the Mariah (but with less talent) Carey Diva Finishing School. Remember Hallelujah? That most sensitive, wrought ballad turned into a lung function test? Now that's a cover to which Ellie would do justice.

Being told, through a mate that a drummer I had jammed with said it had been great jamming with me. The guy was Dood's ex bandmate, and at the time, Glenn Hughes' touring drummer (well he had Chad Smith on the album), Matt Goom. Most of my musical career has been working behind the scenes, and my big one there was re-uniting John Mayall and Eric Clapton for Mayall's 70th birthday concert.

Affordable Quality CD Duplication for your band
Mykesbass replied to Cat Burrito's topic in General Discussion
Hi Burrito, You may be better off asking again in the New Year - most of the capacity at the moment will be full of Now Christmas 36 and the like. Come the New Year there will be a lot more gaps in the order books that need filling. Also, make sure all set up costs are included in the price (glass mastering particularly - should be for a thousand). The price quoted for jewel case is fairly close to what I was getting a couple of years back from most of the bigger manufacturers including Optimal in Germany. If anything, I think prices will have hels as capacity has dropped. Was in the industry for a long while so if you have any questions feel free to PM me. Mike -
Shame Musicians Only isn't still running - anyone else remember that? Think it was an offshoot of Sounds.

How many different Basschat Bass Bashes are there?
Mykesbass replied to silverfoxnik's topic in General Discussion
I'm glad this has come up. I looked into a national bash last year, and had the idea of inviting a few "names" along. One of the problems is obviously they will want a fee. And the problem will be covering the fee's if not enough members turn up. I think I'm right in saying that the Basschat coffers arn't exactly overflowing ( Ped will duff me up if I get this wrong) so who will pay the difference if we don't make enough dosh. I'm not trying to put the dameners on it by any means, I quite happy to get involved in organising this if we can get it up off the ground. If you charge say £10 a head entrance it may do it. I was looking at venues near where the M1 joins the M69. The A14 junction isn't that far away from there as well.
How about talking to some of the manufacturers/distributors to get their endorsees along? That number of bass players in a room - they should be falling over themselves to help! -
You want a Cort GB74 The first thing that came into my mind when you said Musicmanish for your budget. You would need to be looking secondhand though Or a Cort Curbow
Why wasn't this available 2 years ago? I'm just getting a new fretless board put on my five string. Great bass - a bit over the OP's budget but well worth considering.

Great to hear everything's worked out Marty - hey perhaps you'll hang on to this one - never known anyone with such bad GAS I can't believe how lax courier firms are - I spent some time last year door to door leafleting for my new business - the amount of catalogue deliveries - Next etc I could have picked up, all left on doorsteps, out of view to of the road. Likewise, the amount of times parcels have been left in my doorway when someone's been in.

Wilkinson had a guitar and amp package £100 reduced to £40. Unusual as it wasn't the generic strat that everyone else seems to go for - in fact, the picture looked quite good. Just found it: http://www.wilkinsonplus.com/content/ebiz/...8/0295038_l.jpg -0 bugg3r my old boots, they've sold out. Look out techs on 29th December, you're going to be busy!!!
