1. Hi Andreas - welocme to the forum. Great place you're from - home of Therapy? had a good night at one of their gigs there many years ago!
2. Red Planet Guitars - shop's own brand? Staffordshire? There are a lot of manufacturers that will do very short runs of branded guitars, all usually very generic. This lot seem to be lefty specialists.
3. Bump, New Year, New Price (lower of course, just £200).
4. Now succesfully traded for Thornybank's 12" Alucab. Cheers Chris!
5. Just did a cab swap with Chris, great guy, really easy trade - great first deal on Basschat - thanks! Mike
6. Was in retail when these first came out and stocked them. Originally, they were using the previous Fender hardware - i.e. when they updated the standards the Highway One inherited the old pick-ups etc. Now, by the look of things the pick-up is the same but you get a BadAss on the cheaper bass. Also, the BIG difference is the satin finish on the Highway One - was a big issue among a lot of players who wanted their gloss. (oh, and a gig bag, not a hardcase, so add another £80 for a Hiscox). 7.
There are dedicated products that might be a bit safer, like New Skin.
+1 I've used this in an emergency, will need to re-apply several times but it should get you through. Good luck!!
8. Oh, and Marty Prior at Isaacs on the docks in Ipswich on Sundays.
9.
I am sure you did not mean to say NWR is a small time Bass player...
Not just Norman, I wouldn't want to refer to anyone as small time, but, in the spirit of this post, and he may well be on here somewhere as he makes a fine bass as well, I'd like to recommend Pete Stroud - catch him with Bad Influence, or even better, when ex Bluesbreakers guitarist Buddy Whittington is over, see Pete with his old Peter Green mucker, Roger Cotton on keys as well.
10. Got GB 75 with ash body - really well built, nice bass. Only negative (which may also affect the 34a) is the active electronics are way too complicated!
11.
Oh the fun of the session player's life
Even the singers, racking my brains for the guys name - got it, Tony Burrows - apparently on three top ten singles at the same time!
12.
I didn't realise Danny Thompson played on Congratulations by Cliff Richard
And George Chisholm - that really threw me!
13. Thanks for posting OldGit - great player, fun interview.
14.
Also are the pickups too low?
Or, oddly enough, too high?
15. Looks like they've still got it! New album - the first track on Myspace has got a really nice feel! http://www.myspace.com/lightoftheworldmusic
16. Like: See through white over ash spalted maple f holes Dislike: Relics Didn't realise it until reading through other comments, Lakland oval bridge plate
17. Seeing Slam Stewart at the first ever Capital Radio Jazz Festival at Alexander Palace in 1980 (I think). Really went to see BB King but Slam was a stand out moment. On a completely different tack and very slightly earlier, the riffs in both the Boomtown Rats Rat Trap and of course the Stranglers Peaches. Got to meet and work with Pete Briquette from the Rats much later - really nice bloke.
18. Don't think anyone's posted this before - amazing bunch of muso's - backed Paul Simon on one of my all time favourite albums - this is one of those where you just feel the amount of enjoyment the band are getting from it and you want to be part of it! Sorry, where's the info about youtube postings? Found It
19. Great fun - thought it was going to be a dull show-off then the little bit of tongue in cheek showed through - love the cat's cameo!
20.
Drummer I know said my Ibby was very hard rock/metal, and couldn't really see it fitting with some genres. Looks even more metal now, since I put a new strap on it
Of course there's the other musicians (oops, sorry, you said drummer) prejudices - I didn't get a gig because I didn't have a traditional Fender!
21. Welcome to the forum. Check out my drummer mate's band up in Naarch - Icarus Vision (http://www.myspace.com/icarusvision)- always playing the rock pubs. Mike
22.
That's why they don't exist any more, son. ;0)
I'm sure Wateroftyne's comment had tongue firmly in cheek but Ped, with a retort like that within 7 minutes - are you a top class stand up in your spare time (after bass playing and photography)?
23. http://www.adamhall.com/uk/AH_p--project_27__b--4072 and then check out the stockist link.
24. I know they get a lot of grief on here but, having stocked a handful when I had my guitar shop a couple of years ago I thought they were great for the money. They don't have a reputation for longevity, but for what you propose I would have thought one would be the ideal candidate.
25.
There are two footy clubs I know of that have regular band nights so should be Ok as far as noise is concerned. Both have parking as well. Barnet & Sutton are both promoted by Pete Feenstra for live music - http://www.feenstra.co.uk/ Pete is a lovely guy and a huge supporter of live music so I reckon he'd help if required
+1 on Pete - plus - and this isn't meant to sound bad but he is a businessman, if he can earn a little out of it he would put on a great event, good band and PA and he has two other good South East venues, Chislehurst - just off A20/M25 and Wingspan Club at Gatwick - off A23 and great rail service. I'd happily sound him out if and when needed. Mike
