  1. Great band. Native New Yorker is one of my all time favourites. It does help when you pick songs by this legend: And if you don't know it, Richie Havens' cover is pretty cool:
  2. Alexandra Burke's version of Hallelujah. Rips all the fragility from the song and turns it into a big, belting power ballad. Someone obviously didn't care for music...
  3. Totally trashed = let his true feelings slip out.
  4. Will give that a watch later. Loved Dave Grusin back in the day.
  5. I think they call this 'pushing at an open door' Bloomin' lovely track.
  6. Sorry, not going through all 47 pages to check if this has been posted before. Heard it yesterday on my local Tesco in store radio - they play some great stuff. Anyway, a classic mellow groove from Billy Paul.
  7. Ooh, now there's a good call (and a cracking disco track to boot).
  8. I once had a glass of Dom Perignon Champagne. It was noticeably nicer than any I had drunk before, but was it four times better? After a certain price, any improvements are incremental (or snake oil).
  9. This. We have been in a race to the bottom, squeezing prices for decades. This is now unsustainable and prices are having to go up and we are going to have to get used to owning less stuff. Going with inflation, a Fender Stratocaster should cost 3,300 dollars in US ( sorry, couldn't find UK prices for 1969s).
  10. With the original currently being used for one of the most awful adverts on TV, I thought this was a refreshing take, and one I'm surprised I'd never heard before: Blood Sisters.
  11. Odd that they dropped the active/passive switch that was on my earlier model. I always used mine passive, couldn't find anything the pre did that I liked - which might give a clue to your question.
  12. Oh, and lovely looking build @kevin_lindsay
  13. Ginger rest - finally worked out what that little block is for. Mind you, the ginger will probably fall off once you start playing!
  14. Summer of 69 - what an awful song.
  15. I hope you meant aren't? Looking good. I only came across these basses in another post on here a week or so ago and now have gas for the first time in years!
  16. I remember when Under Pressure came out - 15 seconds of dead air from our radio of that time!
  17. Agree about 6 Music eq (especially in the car) but astonished that you didn't know this fabulous Tommy Cogbill bass line. The story of the recording of the album is a great read.
  18. No, but you should probably delete it and not post when you are under the influence.
  19. Difficult one isn't it? As others have said, with MJ, there are so many others involved so when covering a song, how much of it is his? Next, where do we stop? Beatles? And while we are on the subject of domestic abuse, how do you censor Ike Turner without censoring his victim?
  20. @chris_bis absolutely right - but I find it incredibly hard not to "dig in" when gigging. The whole "turn the bass up and play lighter" just seems counterintuitive to me. I saw Nick Fyffe (Jamiroquai bass player) playing a much more rock style with Temperance Movement and really got the whole concept -but I still struggle with it!
  21. Do you wear gloves when labouring? I found when I was a gardener the leather gloves softened my callouses - damned nuisance.
