Saw some of the ABC one. Love the album, enjoyed the interview sections, but felt the show was sorely lacking something (although couldn't put my finger on what). As for the rest, the only one that really warrants classic status IMHO is Frampton, and why choose a Dexy's album that isn't Searching for the Young Soul Rebels?

Do You Know the Way to Solihull

Oops, beaten to it. Well played @MacDaddy

Kid Jensen on the bill with the Groundhogs - almost as weird as the famous 60s Hendrix/Humperdinck billing.

Super cheap Harley Benton flatwounds shocker!
Mykesbass replied to meterman's topic in General Discussion
Picato used to make a lot of the budget brands, and their own strings were very cheap. Sounded good, but I found the wrap on the flats started to lift after a while. -
Minority of at least two!

Such a shame when that happens - I know it is hated by many, but the original is a cracking track.

I try not to hate any music, but I'll make an exception for Summer of 69.

Out of interest, why?

That's you off my cake baking list, philistine 🤨

@ebenezerhas just reminded me of the amazing Yamaha BBT500 amp. Very early class D digital amp, which had its drawbacks (especially when it failed and NOBODY knew how to repair it. I remember gigging this at the Railway in Ipswich - a big pub that had their own backline. Their Hartke rig was a 115 and 410 with signs on it DO NOT TURN UP ABOVE 4. Landlady came storming downstairs to see who cranked the bass up, took one look at the Yamaha's tiny 110, shrugged her shoulders and went back upstairs. That little speaker cab was way ahead of it's time in size and weight.

Very cool. Sad that the lovely wood grain is on the back.

Started working on Memphis Soul Stew by the great Tommy Cogbill (been getting a lot of radio play and is also on a TV and). Blimey, it's a lot faster than it sounds on the radio. Good job it's only a short track as I'm finding it a really physical work out!

Just saw this on Facebook. Very sad.

Unsung, yes. But not sure the rest of the thread title applies to my nomination: Purple Chili cabs. I had one (112), couldn't get a second anywhere so sold it. Then a pair came up and I had to have them. They never seem to appear in threads, perhaps there are just too few of them out there. They may also be too big for some in comparison to other 112s on the market, but they are light and sound absolutely wonderful. This pair are staying with me. Oh, and they were built by Mike Walsh - @Cosmicrain maker of the very fine Zoot basses.

The guys from The Detectorists are on tour?!

Fender Tidepool - what colour is it really? (see comparison pics)
Mykesbass replied to ikay's topic in Bass Guitars
If it was a British bass I'd expect tidepool to be a murky brown 🤨 -
Depends. My absolute favourites are the ones with a great audience response. I have, however, thoroughly enjoyed gigs where, due to the room set up, or being booked by people who loved the band, but we were completely unsuitable for the event, we've had a great time being totally ignored!

Have I killed my cab ?, I've only myself to blame
Mykesbass replied to spencer.b's topic in General Discussion
There are some very knowledgeable types over on the amps and cabs section who could probably give you advice on viable replacement drivers. They may turn up here, but worth putting a 'what replacement driver for my EA Wizzy' thread on there. -
Played Butlins Skegness Great British Rock and Blues Weekend. Was a great concept, but it was on its last legs and I'm not sure if it has returned post lockdown. There was good support for the new bands on the Introducing stage, and a good spread of old names - Nazareth, 9 Below Zero are the first to come to mind.

Can't link to the track, but Third World, 96 Degrees in the Shade at this year's Glastonbury was an absolute masterclass of space and feel. Here's the whole set (which I haven't watched) on iPlayer: https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/p0ft6tc0/glastonbury-third-world
