  1. What are your plans for it? Parts upgrade or something more radical?
  2. I love the very end - yes, that bit when it has finished 😏
  3. Another take on this is the audience. My late mum was born in 1929. Due to the war she didn't really get any teenage years, so her main musical influences ranged from Frank Sinatra through Rock & Roll, and on into the 60s. Her biggest bugbear in her 70s/80s was other people deciding what her age group wanted, in her words, Vera bl00dy Lynn and Glen Miller.
  4. Heroin and Jazz were very uneasy bedfellows in the 40s and 50s. Responsible for some great music and some tragically early deaths. I've been looking to see if there have been any studies of some of the biggest names to see if their best work was clean or under the influence - Joe Pass, Charlie Mingus, Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, Billie Holiday and Chet Baker all spring to mind.
  5. Sure, fitness and dexterity can take a dive with age, but if a singer has been taking care of their voice then they can carry on well into their twilight years. I saw Tom Jones in a 300 capacity club when he was 81 - his voice was incredible. I think there is more to it than just age. Playing with younger people (see @Bluewineabove) or playing genres that don't just cater for one age group can help. I'm still working on this to put together a new project - probably why it is taking so long, but determined that it won't be all 'blokes of a certain age'.
  6. OK, so it will be the Stax/Atlantic/Muscle Shoals styles then. To break yourself in (as it is as much about the feel as it is about the complexity of the parts) I'd suggest some Wilson Pickett tracks, as their basslines for me (and I'll probably get ripped to shreds for saying this) are a little more obvious than some of the other artists in this style (Otis Redding for example). @Reggaebass has already sent you in the right direction for Motown. Have fun - some great stuff to work on.
  7. R&B - is that Jam & Lewis era and later, or as Chris suggests above, Stax, Muscle Shoals, Malaco?
  8. Just searched back a few years, there was a member on here Wes Steed - worked at GAK at the time, and was a talented luthier. He had Herbie's bass to make a replica, and I recall there was a lot of talk at the time about the exact age. @Clarky owned the replica for a while, but I can't find the original build thread.
  9. Shame they've gone authentic and kept that hideous headstock!
  10. Just watched. Very enjoyable, thanks for posting @JJTee
  11. Nice work @wateroftyne. Importantly, the singers have got 'believable' voices, essential for this band!
  12. Lyrics on album artwork (remember those...) and even official publisher's sheet music often have discrepancies to what is actually sung on original recordings, so I'd not expect any internet sources to be fully accurate. Pretty sure from my record company days that a recording will be enough to copyright the lyrics. I don't think anyone has ever tried to get away with copyright infringement based on these discrepancies.
  13. If I had to switch between Duff and Jamerson I'd be having serious words with whoever puts the set list together 🤨
  14. Basswood is absolutely fine as a body. The only reason it isn't more popular is that it isn't great to look at, so is primarily used under solid finishes. Weight compares closely to alder.
  15. I looked through a list of 50 acts and thought I recognised one - Modest Mouse. But then I realised this wasn't the bloke that wrote Night on Bare Mountain.
  16. Shouldn't that question be why, not where? Some of these updates read more like posts - really don't get it
  17. This list includes a Hendrix track!!! https://www.guitarworld.com/features/greatest-rock-songs-with-no-solo
