Gabriels are stunning (IMHO).
-
That is something that really puts me off the idea of going to a festival. I want to hear the paid professionals do the singing, not some p155ed up punter.

Only seen Plant and Krauss so far. Fabulous set, great playing, but thought they would have worked far better on a smaller stage.
-
Only scanned the thread quickly, has Burning Spear Marcus Garvey (Garvey's Ghost) been mentioned? Cracking album, and equally great dub version.
-
He also used to employ a group of musos to go out and play pub gigs with.

Worst kind of snobbery, and sad how many musicians suffer from it.

Didn't play with him, that was @mybasshonour. I worked with him in a record company capacity. Great musician and lovely person ( oh and he had plenty of quips along those lines).

I've lost out on a gig with a Feelgoods style r&b band as I turned up with a Cort. They wanted a Fender. Worked with Buddy Whittington (last Bluesbreakers guitarist) who always tells slightly coy owners of Mexican Fenders not to worry as Mexicans have been making the American ones for years.

I was trying to fit a Goons comment in.

What gives you the most MUSICAL pleasure?

Yes, this when playing live. I guess for me it is very similar to the coming together on record of a great arrangement. -

Much as I love a great groove, and appreciate anything that is performed with real passion, my ultimate weakness is a lovely arrangement. Anything from Mozart's Grand Mass in Cm, to Elvis Costello or Robert Wyatt's Shipbuilding, via 1970s disco and Bacharach and David. A beautifully crafted arrangement gets me every time. What does it for you?

Unpopular Musical Opinions: What are Yours?
Mykesbass replied to Mykesbass's topic in General Discussion
Yes, thought that was too controversial to kick the thread off with, but that's another one of mine. -
I had and loved the Genzler Magellan 350w. Sold in lockdown as out of everything I have it is replaceable. I had the Rumble 112s which are very good, but I love my Purple Chili 112s. Sadly I don't think @Cosmicrain is currently building any.

The Rap Thread (new title for an old thread).
Mykesbass replied to Mykesbass's topic in General Discussion
Whereas I love the way a lot of rap artists work like musical magpies, uncovering, or rediscovering great music for new generations. Eminem bringing Labi Siffre and even Chas & Dave to a wider audience is a great example. -

Well I personally don't think those two go together! -

Congratulations - that hopefully is a seriously unpopular opinion!! -
Unpopular Musical Opinions: What are Yours?

It's a musical opinion, but hardly unpopular 🤨 -
No gratuitous shots here, but this is the later Paul Hardcastle theme which we released on a label I was working for in the early 90s:

Unpopular Musical Opinions: What are Yours?

Probably a lot of truth here, which is why I've struggled as a complete and utter musical tart. I'd love to play in a punky/folky band (something along the lines of the Levellers) but also would love the chance to play Northern Soul. All I know for certain is I never want to be in a blues rock band again.
