  1. Popular opinion with me, but I know we are in a minority.
  2. Don't attempt his version of Walk on By then 🤨
  3. Now you have put me in a quandary. I know I should oppose elitism, but I hate populism even more 😟
  4. I believe it had a fair amount of vocals too...
  5. Time for a thread revival with this beauty - some nice minimalist bass and drums in parts.
  6. This. I used to play rhythm guitar in a swing band. We loved playing Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Stan Kenton, but the audience loved Glen Miller. We played In The Mood in a very slapdash way as it was really the big band equivalent of Sex on Fire. We then decided to absolutely nail it - everyone learning their part with no chart. Still don't like the tune but we ended up playing it really well
  7. Can't find the one I love - blue and gold embroidered fabric finish 😎
  8. Pointless, as that would not be an unpopular opinion for the purpose of this thread!
  9. My old 'americana' for want of a better word band used to play Dylan, Neil Young, Little Feat, and for birthdays/anniversaries we always ended up chucking in Enrique Iglesias Hero. Went down a storm and was fun to play- to hell with credibility!
  10. Oh, and forgot to add a favourite, the wonderful Hugh Masekela.
  11. BBC6 Music play some new instrumental tracks, Ezra Collective (jazz) Kamasi Washington (cinematic jazz) Mogwai (rock) and quite a bit of instrumental dance music. I think Mogwai's album got to number one earlier this year.
  12. Yes, they have been confessed to - you are not alone. But I think you're safe with this being an unpopular opinion 😆
  13. See, unpopular already! I almost agree with you Steve, but think her first hit, Saving all my Love was a better performance.
  14. What, all those Foreigners going around wanting to know what love is? (Great track btw).
  15. Only found out last week that Feeling Good (Nina Simone, Muse etc) was written by Tony Newley.
  16. Only wrong thread if you think not many people will agree with you. Personally I have no idea how popular/credible Pearl Jam are/were.
  17. If that's the playlist then feel free to invite me next time!
  18. Yes!! It was for posts like this that I started the thread!
  19. And wrote it the same day as Jolene. Pretty good day for her I'd say!
  20. I was working on a big show that the record company I worked for was recording/filming. Had a Brit School student with me doing work experience, so we went to watch the rehearsal. She said to me in the car on the way back to the office 'I didn't know Eric Clapton played guitar'.
  21. Heard a BBC6 Music presenter make a snarky comment about an act that has tended to get a lot of flack, so got me thinking, are there acts you feel are unfairly maligned, or, acts you feel get way more kudos than they deserve? Mine was the act in question - Simply Red. Great voice, great band, excellent songs, but possibly more hated than Oasis and Prog combined! I thought they were great back in the day, and still do! So, what's yours?
