  1. OK, may have found a contender. Funky from a rock perspective (RHCP, Living Colour vibe), Ocean Colour Scene Riverboat Song. I like the use of the accent on the 5.
  2. Sinister - I hope you're not hoping to get people dancing a Viennese Waltz to it 😏
  3. Higher Ground is in 4/4. Does have a 12/8 feel in places though.
  4. Just seen myself on camera 😎
  5. Ah, common problem for some of us. I used to play in a band covering a lot of Dylan and similar style material. Sometimes a helpful landlord would try and set the scene and as we were setting up we would have to hastily rearrange the set list. Good job we had plenty of material!
  6. Pretty sure Nitro Mors is not available to the general public any more. The stuff that they can sell in places like B&Q are less than useless.
  7. I'd be interested to know what rights these players are selling. If that's for a commercial release then those prices are very cheap. Liked the second guy's take on it with the tapping. Very neat.
  8. Padded soft case. Just remember how high above your head it is if you wear it like a backpack!
  9. I think he'll happily let you use it for the next few years
  10. My last band incorporated the singer's name (our original drummer suggested that). I guess she will keep that one in perpetuity! My feeling is that if you are covers or blues covers then the name should give a bit of a clue as to what you do. Originals, it is all about branding. Band leader/originator should keep it unless someone else from the band came up with it.
  11. Been some interesting people covering this, from Phoebe Snow to Bernie Marsden. I do like the way Delbert Clinton merges two genres that rarely get seen together, Country and Funk, in his version.
  12. Oh man, now I'm imagining a Jazz-Rock Ceilidh
  13. Wunjo were great but my experiences were a few years back now.
  14. Don't know if this is something our resident cable guru @Chienmortbb can help with?
  15. Annoyingly, the B on my laBellas has gone dead, to the extent that it doesn't balance with the other 4.
  16. Looking at that spec sheet, I'm thinking that the cab was available in either 4 or 8 ohms. It should say on the plate which yours is.
  17. There's a few companies that do wraps. Will require a bit of work, but could be a fun project if you are practically minded.
  18. Another 'you can't go wrong at that price' from me.
  19. And you're not alone - which is what makes music so special.
  20. I seem to have this tendency to block out the stuff I don't like (see Dire Straits contribution earlier in the thread), so only thought of these two tracks by an artist I love that I think are pretty awful; Bob Marley - Iron, Lion, Zion and Buffalo Soldier. I get the historical significance of the latter, just find the hook butt-clenchingly naff.
  21. Elton John was the office boy at Mills Music in Denmark Street. He replaced my old boss who had been promoted (and later went on to set up Safari Records - Toyah, The Boys, Johnny Clegg).
  22. Go on then, I'll bite. She's Leaving Home, A Day in the Life. There may be a couple more.
  23. I'm usually in full agreement with your wisdom and advice on here, but I made a decision along these lines only to have a conversation later with a friend who made me regret it. I fell out with a long term friend/ musical partner with whom we had transitioned our blues covers band to an originals blues-rock band. We fell out over something that seemed at the time irreparable, leading to me walking out. Met up with a pal, drummer with a very well known band from the 80s, still doing the nostalgia circuit every couple of years, who had also just had a bust up with the main man. He thought it may have been the end for him, but he was called the next morning and main man said that the row was because they both cared about the point so much, and that was a good thing. Looking back (there's an unintended clue there) that was exactly what had happened between me and my singer.
  24. Couple of points you raise here: Is originality the best outcome? I love Dylan but he wasn't original. Borrowed, and in the early days outright stole, much from others. Learning vs formalising a process of learning: It all has to be learnt. Bowie learnt his craft. OK, not by consulting a set of instructions, but got his vocal style by mimicking Anthony Newly.
