  1. Don Letts played these guys last night. Nice vibe. https://amjcollective.bandcamp.com/
  2. Two problems here. First, it isn't the only variable. The amount of variance in the player would probably be outside of the tolerances of a good scientific experiment. Secondly, 'evidences before their eyes' - remember the blue/gold - black/white dress a couple of years back? We don't all see things the same, perhaps we don't hear things the same, and get some bias in our hearing from what we see? To do this properly, the room would need to be atmospherically strable, a mechanical device used for plucking of the strings, and, most importantly, should be done blind. When someone does this I'll start paying attention.
  3. My earlier post (don't know how to quote posts which in turn have quotes in them...) was more about the phenomenon NWOCR - brand new music by new bands calling themselves this, not RHCP or RATM.
  4. Get a hybrid and you will still have the all valve itch. Only way to really scratch that (and find out the answer is No, I don't need a valve amp) is to own such a beast. Speaking from experience here...
  5. Buccaneer can you help me get my truck in gear. She did have some classics!
  6. Love, love me do You know I love you I'll always be true So please Love me do
  7. At the risk of a case of grandmothers and egg sucking, could it be really sensitive to string height? Stunning build.
  8. Yes, small venue in Eastbourne on my Facebook feed has just announced their grant.
  9. Here you go - must update it, I've fallen a bit behind as the audio on my laptop had somehow fried itself... https://open.spotify.com/playlist/59RhYT5dLPwboS9u3njL4S?si=oGgmMf8sTaarjSRBDrqHjA
  10. Working on a whole bunch of songs, but more importantly, working on playing them without looking at my left hand! I think much of it is semi-concious, but I've noticed nearly every picture of me that's wher I'm looking! Started with fretted bass - all went well. Now just retraining on the fretless. Good first session, but old dogs, new tricks, I reckon it will take some time to perfect!
  11. You want a double-entendre? I'll give you one.
  12. Heard this once in Homebase and will now forever be Just an Emulsion.
  13. Interesting, thanks. Will have to listen again armed with this info.
  14. One of Six Music's favourite oldies, played again this afternoon. Nice riff and groove, but I'm struggling to work out the count after the chord changes, where the riff comes back in, sort of across the bar. Anyone play this? Or anyone fancy having a listen and tell me what's happening? Thanks.
  15. Max Bygraves You're a Pink Toothbrush...
  16. But that is sort of my point. Bass is not a vanity instrument, therefore, it shouldn't matter to bass players when people don't highlight it for praise. We know it wouldn't be as good without us!
  17. Short answer, No. Longer answer: One of the most highly appreciated songwriters of all times. His bass lines were an integral part of that songwriting process. So even if Jo(e) Public don't jump up and down hailing his bass playing it doesn't mean it is under appreciated. And that's from someone who really doesn't care much for the Beatles.
  18. Bob Babbitt on Marvin Gaye's Inner City Blues Tommy Cogbil on Dusty Springfield's Son of a Preacher Man
  19. Saw Miles do a solo gig in Liverpool promoting new material. One drunk constantly heckled for Size. 'for some people it will always be 19 fxxcking 91' was his response. And yes, the late Martin Gilkes was a great live drummer.
  20. He had another dance hit in an earlier period with I Thought it Was You. Both that and Rockit were very different to his amazing Jazz repertoire!
