I think one of the reasons Bjorn Again hit the headlines is they very cleverly released an EP of Erasure covers as they would have been if Abba had recorded them. Got them into the charts. 1988 seems to have been a big year for tribute acts - I thought Australian Pink Floyd may have pre-dated BA, but they were both around the same time. Then there's Rutles of course, way earlier, and a Stones tribute who used to feature on Steve Wright's Radio 1 show.

The other non tribute, with a tribute sounding name from around that time The Sid Presley Experience.

All female (except when Ian Paice guests with them) Deep Purple tribute Strange Kind of Women. All top musicians, had the honour of doing a Blues tour with their guitarist, Eliana Cargnelutti, great player. Best made up one, which my pal refused to use, Schmeagles.

Arnold George Dorsey changed his name to Gerry Dorsey after his covers of Jerry Lee Lewis hits. He then went on to greater fame having borrowed the name of a 19th Century German composer, Englebert Humperdinck.

Originally Alice Cooper was a band name. Same as Sade, with lead singer Helen Folasade Adu sharing, then taking over the name. Blondie could possibly be put in the same category, as the name was the band, but was pretty much a nickname for lead singer Debbie Harry.

Please give up listening to any new music that gets posted on here, and regurgitating the same opinion every time. It really is getting quite boring.

It appeals to two different markets - the player who only wants it for the instrument it is, and the fan who wants to hang it on the wall. If you happen to be both then it may well be worth a bit extra.

I thought the band were good, but possibly a bit clinical. Loved the guitar solo on Inner City Blues, and really liked Joel Culpepper's vocals. Watched it on iPlayer, so missed Sandi Shaw. Will try catch up later.

What's Going On was 50 yesterday, and as a celebration (and if any album is worthy of such, this one must be) Craig Charles has what sounds like a great show from 6pm tonight. A host of current artists are recreating the album, along with interviews with people who were involved in the album, or worked with/knew Marvin.

I agree. I love loads of diverse stuff - from Dusty Springfield to Therapy? (oh, and the Terrortones) but equally, there is plenty I can't abide. @BigRedX is right - anything shows a complete lack of care.

I listen to the widest range of music, and still keep finding stuff I like, both new,(Christine & the Queen's, Joel Culpepper) and old (fairly recent Dylan and Springsteen convert). Also love Classical, Bop, and Big Band Jazz. Doesn't @Beedster have some background in the latter part of the OP's question?

I did go to a West End gay club with a gay friend - absolutely fine, no hassle and of course, some great music!

There was a pub across the road which was up on the first floor - useful for a pre gig beer or for the times you didn't get in 😕
