  1. I bought the Specials Encore a few months back. It somehow got put in a pile and completely forgotten, so I dug it out this evening and stuck it on in the car. Not what I was expecting at all, but all the better for it. A really mature sounding album, with very some Blockhead like funk, some very strong Fun Boy Three influence (great reworking of Lunatics) and some right on politics 👊🏼 Would have chosen Vote for Me but they haven't credited Ernest Ranglin for th eobvious borrow, so instead, another of the more reggae styled tracks, Embarrased By You. Whole album definitely worth a listen.
  2. Can't say they weren't warned. The festival made it absolutely clear that it would happen. Sounds like Cooper's timing was a tiny bit better than Lemmy's!
  3. Yes, plot your journey on Google maps and play around with the departure/arrival times. Their data is understandably good (and a bit worrying).
  4. Friday night is probably the only guaranteed no-no. Been doing a lot of miles recently, including two trips, Sussex to Luton. So far everything has seemed a little lighter than pre-lockdown.
  5. Not so much short, but Alice Cooper wouldn't believe how strict the curfew was at Gulifest, so left the stage at the end of the set, at which point all power went off, and he hadn't performed any of the big hits which he'd saved for the encore! Oops!
  6. And a corker from Elvis Costello: To tell the truth our mum ran off with someone else's father Went for two weeks holiday in Taramasalata
  7. Ian Dury - so many to mention, but three classics: Van Gogh did some eyeball pleasers. He must have been a pencil squeezer. He didn't do the Mona Lisa, That was an Italian geezer. I could be a lawyer with strategems and ruses I could be a doctor with poultices and bruises I could be a writer with a growing reputation I could be the ticket man at Fulham Broadway Station Shall I mourn you decline with some thunderbird wine And a black hankercheif?
  8. Something that really came across in the documentary - very enigmatic, huge stage presence, even when he wasn't doing very much. Just facial expressions alone could be enough.
  9. That is glorious! Nice 'investment'
  10. The bit about his ability to take more drugs than his artists?! Sign of a good manager is their longevity. He is still with Alice Cooper.
  11. Yes, love that page. Worked with all the family in those photographs, and still friends with Ray who I worked with when he released the Gipsy Kings albums in the UK.
  12. Missed it first time around. He did have one of the all time great voices, up there with Otis for me. The Harold Melvin thing must have confused a lot of people over the years 😁 Oh, and another all time classic Sunday morning, South East London record shop favourite. Sold a few copies of Joy and TP back in the day!
  13. Just watched this - always loved Teddy's voice, even if some of the lyrical content is a bit OTT. Was also aware of his accident, but not quite the magnitude of it. And as for his appearance at Live Aid, OK, so musically not the finest thing you'll ever see, but brought a tear to my eye. Will be on I Player shortly: https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m000ngdj
  14. Your 'wish' is my command 😎 https://wishbass.com/gallery
  15. Private stock, but made to order! Someone's really pushing the marketing BS there!
  16. Shocking, there wasn't! Check out the Spotify playlist from the thread that I have attempted to keep up to date - quite a few are not on Spotify, and I have been sticking mainly to just one track by each artist. Pretty comprehensive list! https://open.spotify.com/playlist/59RhYT5dLPwboS9u3njL4S?si=IvI9NOXjRQOj8JZwGp1fig
  17. I'm sure one of the experts will be along shortly, but just a quick check, are you using a speaker cable or an instrument cable for the extension cab?
  18. Any of those lovely old Fender colours - Daphne Blue, Sea Foam Green, Fiesta Red etc.
  19. Conservation not restoration. Looks fabulous, has loads of history.
  20. You have just reminded me, I also had a very minor role in the release of Beach Boys Live at Knebworth. An awful lot of gaffa tape and polyfilla was used to make that fit for release!
