If you're going Philly you are pushing on an open door! The wonderful Lou Rawls: -

That was quicker than expected - when I originally saw this there were plenty of comments to show this was no one off. http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-tees-42280212 -

I have seen elsewhere (probably Facebook) tales of pubs and bookers who will not book female acts. Will try and find links. -

Fabulous voices and a great song. However, the melancholy doesn't really come across in the M&P version quite like it does in a much later version that John Phillips made. Sorry, ever so slightly off topic but I just LOVE talking about and sharing music! -

Going to add Dan McAfferty to the list - OK, this is a self indulgent clip (I was involved in the production) but for a guy late in his career, and with absolutely no fixing after the filming, and a heavy night the night before, he could still produce this type of performance. -

She often gets slated because of what followed - a whole host of vocal acrobats, but she was way better than that. The first album in particular was stunning. -

That's polls for you! There is no way you can 'rate' music in my book. -

Good call - some times the guest vocalists in other 'project' style bands are some of the finest. Chris Thompson is another good example. This later APP track, not an example of Chris' very best, but ties in with the thread. -

Me too, but nobody outshines Willie on his version of Stardust from the same album: Going to have this as a rather wonderful earworm for the rest of the day! -

And while I'm hogging this thread, two very different styles from the one amazing singer, Al Jarreau - one his vocal reworking of the Chick Corea classic, the other one of the most out and out, cheesy pop songs ever. I love both! -

And I love the way Chet Baker's voice and horn have the same feel/tone. -

This one is very much on point with @leftybassman392 comment about it all being the voice, not the style. Madeleine Peyroux (a big Terry Wogan favourite). -

Another sublime female singer - far from my usual music taste, but what a voice - Rhiannon Giddens. -

Can't fault Gear 4 Music, including them putting a minor issue right with no fuss. -
Not so much at home, as I tend to play unplugged at home, but the difference between rooms always gets me, especially having to have quite a mid heavy tone on stage to make the lower frequencies sound good out front. I think volume also has a huge amount of influence in the home vs band difference.

Sort of missed the point there Rich. But then there seems to be a lot of this going on in this thread, which is why I've DM'd Stew.

Chris Packham can be quite informative - but yes, that would really need to be in Off Topic!
