  1. Yes - early music lessons in secondary school (mid-70s) embedded some of the real basics, and introduced some new music (also confirmed my dislike of a certain really famous band). Later on, O Level music gave me some good theory, and the ability to follow a score. This is now in that deep bank of knowledge that you don't know you have until something triggers it later, and has come in handy helping to shape songs, and bring ideas together in bands many years later.
  2. I find things like this interesting, especially when some people think that covers have to be slavishly copied.
  3. Two completely different bass lines! Prefer the first personally.
  4. Annoyingly I was driving through a very poor reception area when this was on. The snatches I heard seemed really good.Rodigan obviously knows his stuff so well, and Lamaq was genuinely interested.
  5. Heard this tonight on 6 Music - Lee Scratch Perry I am a Madman. Love the age in his voice.
  6. I don't think the transition is any stranger than other genres, especially heavier rock - the heavily scooped and quantized sound of bands like Cradle of Filth compared to Led Zeppelin/Black Sabbath, modern dance music's evolution from 70's disco (or even disco's transition from funk), all show exactly the same changes you highlight here.
  7. Sorry @Frank Blank, you have beaten Spotify again. Nice tune!
  8. One of my favourite discoveries from this thread, despite this track not being available on Spotify. Plenty of other great stuff by him on there.
  9. Playlist now updated - 212 songs, 14 plus hours. https://open.spotify.com/playlist/59RhYT5dLPwboS9u3njL4S?si=a-3N4YylQN6zMRpNJkUfMw
  10. Just seen the OP's latest post, hence my worry. Glad to see it has all worked out.
  11. What about the occasional need to 'bake' tapes, particularly Ampex, due to the emulsion attaching itself to the back of the tape?
  12. I'm a big fan of proper pop music throughout the decades, but must admit this probably came to a halt around the turn of the century. Any chance of a few choice artists/tracks to check out please?
  13. Yes, Later has been another good source for me. I came across Lake Street Dive through one of those dreadful clickbait videos!
  14. That's the ones. 60s white RnB. Very authentic. Mentored by Elton John.
  15. In the last couple of years I have found more new artists that I have bought than for many years. A lot of it courtesy of 6 Music. Michael Kiwanuka, White Denim, Christine & the Queens, Fantastic Negrito to name 4.
  16. 17 when they made a breakthrough, but I thought The Strypes were pretty good.
  17. Another vote for Ibanez over Tanglewood. Also, you will get a very poor return on your Ibanez as p/x.
  18. HaHa - yes I've worked out we have all been posting videos and not adding the artist/title in the post, so they don't turn up using the search.
  19. I opted for five string when I switched from playing guitar. The reason for the choice is that I had been playing rhythm in a jazz big band, so everything had been in Bb, Eb, even Ab, so I had completely got out of the habit of playing in the open position. With the five string it just felt natural starting from the fifth fret. The rest then followed easily.
  20. These are absolutely stunning cabs - I have a pair and they are keepers. Great price too. GLWTS.
  21. The Seafoam with the additional discount is basically dealer price. Had one for a couple of years as my back up bass (decided if I were to have a back up to my fretless 5 string P it should be something completely different). It's a great bass, and really not 'basic'.
  22. I love what the Playing For Change team do. Shame it can't go on the Spotify playlist, but I'll be listening later.
  23. None too shabby here, getting to number seven, and your's truly was in the sales team that had to sell it as a new release!
