I know we have the Funk and Soul thread, but thought this was a bit more specific. Had this on on the car yesterday - great, great album, but what really struck me was just how funky the first track, Use Me is. So I started listening to it a little more closely, and what fascinated me was "the one". It is there, but it is so subtle it is almost as if it is a ghost note, a suggestion, rather than an emphatic thump. Any other great examples?

Our posts crossed - I thought that one sold a couple of years back... No, my mistake, was mixing it up with a guitar they had sold earlier.

Badlands Guitars, a small shop with a good local reputation in these parts, have sold a couple of his creations, although they slashed the price of the fretless bass they had from £450 to £200. Seems he had a decent reputation going back to the 70s and 80s. Also looks like there are two Es and one I in Demetriou (might help on searches).

They have (or had up until fairly recently) a place in Walworth. It was a theatrical scenery warehouse when I lived there. Probably turned into flats now...

Cab looks great, but it was the Flints mug that caught my eye. Their warehouse is three doors down from where I lived as a kid! I'm taking it that you work in the world of theatre tech?

Part of being any musician is being a band member and acquiring all the skills outside of being able to play your instrument. Personally, I think it would be frustrating starting with a beginner level band, and would look to see if there was an established band that would be willing to take you on. Hi James, First of all, sorry for your loss, but that's a lovely story and great memories. I had a small guitar shop for a couple of years and always had some left handed stock available. Sometimes with beginners they wanted the guitars demonstrated. I was amazed at how quickly I became able to put a few chords together. I think with the motivation you have this may be easier than you expect. Good luck, and keep us all posted with your progress. Mike

Yes, thought the 100 was a bit heavy, even for US tipping. The old trick here, where people will put £1 coins in a tip jar is to put a couple of £5 and £10 notes in before the jar starts going around, encouraging a bit more generosity.

Or does @Bluewineknow the oldest trick in the book, and chuck some notes in first to attract more of the same? 😏
