  1. Surely it should be Everybody was Kung Fu Riesling...
  2. Loving Village Soul and your cover is fabulous!
  3. It's a case of do either need to be better? Original version is fabulous - great vocal, but due to familiarity it had possibly lost a lot of its message. Frankie's version injected a new urgency into it. Carry on enjoying both!
  4. I know we've had the 'any cover of Dylan is better than the original' which I don't agree with, but I do find there are more covers of Beatles songs I like in preference to the originals. This is a favourite: Best make a quick exit now...
  5. That's just weird. But weird isn't a bad thing in my book.
  6. Again, another great example - I completely disagree with your comment on Dylan. Great how subjective this all is!
  7. Wow, fair play to you. Thought that would have been on most people's (including mine) worst ever lists.
  8. Well there's this glorious thing: Followed by a dreadful interpretation by an amazing singer, but that arrangement!!! And then rescued by this superb version:
  9. Excuse the self indulgence, and yes it is more on the Ska side of things, but this is the latest release by my nephew's band, and I think it is the best thing they have done so far - a session for Rodigan on BBC1 Xtra recorded at Maida Vale.
  10. Mine too (bucket list). Not giving up hope (big enough stages).
  11. Tedeschi Trucks Band. Saw them at the Palladium last year and the two drummers worked beautifully together. Sounded fabulous.
  12. Not as big financial win as most on here, but when I had my guitar shop I got one over Crack Converters who were selling a really nice Japanese Fender Strat for £199. Got them down to £180 as the whammy bar was missing. Put it in my shop, sold three days later for £399 (with a cheap, spare whammy bar).
  13. If that's marketing then why do the ship them with rounds?
  14. I'd check out Jon Shuker's courses. He's a great builder, and I've heard great things about his course on here in the past. East Midlands as well, so not the other end of the country for you.
  15. Afraid I didn't get that far. Glad you're not keen on the drummer as I think you know I don't go around slagging things off. Just didn't get what they were trying to do.
  16. Struggling with this one. I think she is a great player, but the accompaniment is not working for me.
  17. 1959 - he was the sax player on the Dave Brubeck original, along with the absolutely incredible Joe Morello on drums. Strangely I have no Idea who the bass player was - 🤔 This one ^ for me is the nicest version, as they don't try and make it sound like the jazz version, so the 4/4 timing is OK. Can't see why someone couldn't make a 5/4 reggae version - Easy Star All Stars managed 7/4 on Money.
  18. Not sure about these versions of Take 5. The clue is in the title after all 😒 Oh, and North East Ska*Jazz Orchestra, Dave Brubeck didn't co-write this, it was a Paul Desmond composition. Grump over 😎
  19. Our local one is opening. Shame I haven't got a band at the moment 😕
  20. I was thinking about Dire Straits pre Brothers in Arms, but just looked at the figures and was surprised. I was going to suggest Making Movies as being the breakthrough album (yes, I know Sultans was an iconic single, but MM seemed to have been the album that lifted them to the next level). However, the following album, Love Over Gold was actually more successful, and was their first number 1.
  21. Terence Trent D'arby: Introducing the Hardline by TTD -> Neither Fish nor Flesh (although the 'good album' caveat is very much up for debate on this one)!
