  1. At this stage, something with a comfortable neck, and something that is both comfortable standing and seated. As @lownote12 says, there is plenty available at a fraction of your budget. A passive bass with PJ (Precision and Jazz) pickup configuration at around £3/400 would serve you well for a long time (or at least until GAS - Gear Acquisition Syndrome - takes over)!
  2. Birthday CD time - first up Kiwanuka. Lovely stuff. Wasn't convinced by the single when I heard it on the radio late last year, but it grew on me, and the production and musical motifs really work in album form.
  3. Just seen we share a birthday. Happy birthday for Tuesday 🎂
  4. Totally agree with you on Rush @ubit. Rush are phenomenal. I can't stand them, but there is no denying how good they are. I do however stand by my original suggestion, and do think there are plenty of other overrated acts mentioned on here.
  5. Was thinking the same on another thread. Pub a drank in as a teenager everyone had to keep the noise down when Minder was on! No catch up, +1 or Youtube then.
  6. I had just looked to see what interesting music show was on BBC4 tonight. Guess I'll have to make my own entertainment.
  7. Now that is a good call, although I have seen some love from others on here for his excellent later material (check out the album Frank).
  8. Catching back up with Corduroy after @TheGreek mentioned them on the Underrated thread. I guess they just didn't 'fit in'. Great musicianship, good songs - well worth investigating if you like old soul, or crossover jazz styles.
  9. OK, just for fun, overrated in my book has to be Bryan Adams. A 27th rate Bruce Springsteen, and yet everyone loves THAT song. Underrated - an amazing band who had a fabulous hit in the 80s but also have a great body of work that nobody else except @BigRedX have heard of, Furniture.
  10. Bit of a throwback to my Big Band rhythm guitar playing days, enjoying Ella Fitzgerald sings the Duke Ellington Songbook. Lovely!
  11. OK, I'll knock that ball in a slightly different direction, albeit staying on German TV. This to me is how live performances ought to be.
  12. Like that a lot. I think French is my favourite musical language (despite a lack of understanding)!
  13. You have one hell of a worm infestation there.
  14. Documentary last night on BBC4 and now on iPlayer. Equal parts fascinating and sad (just to see/remember how quick his downfall was). Bonus is there are two more stills used in the documentary of Elvis with a P Bass that I don't think have been widely circulated before! https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b09kkkbx/elvis-the-rebirth-of-the-king
  15. So is that drummer. Snare is tighter than a very tight thing in the middle of tight week.
  16. Heard a track from a Misty in Roots Peel Session this afternoon on 6 Music. Couple of complete sessions on youtube. Here's one for your collective pleasure.
