  1. Not sure about these versions of Take 5. The clue is in the title after all 😒 Oh, and North East Ska*Jazz Orchestra, Dave Brubeck didn't co-write this, it was a Paul Desmond composition. Grump over 😎
  2. Our local one is opening. Shame I haven't got a band at the moment 😕
  3. I was thinking about Dire Straits pre Brothers in Arms, but just looked at the figures and was surprised. I was going to suggest Making Movies as being the breakthrough album (yes, I know Sultans was an iconic single, but MM seemed to have been the album that lifted them to the next level). However, the following album, Love Over Gold was actually more successful, and was their first number 1.
  4. Terence Trent D'arby: Introducing the Hardline by TTD -> Neither Fish nor Flesh (although the 'good album' caveat is very much up for debate on this one)!
  5. I know. Only a gentle joke as so often these things collapse into rose-tinted nostalgia (and yes, I also know you are not one of the guilty parties). Would have loved to have been around and on that scene.
  6. Yeah, biggest seller 1971 Dawn, Knock Three Times. Others in the top 100 included Benny Hill, Clive Dunn, The Mixtures and Ray Stevens Bridget the Midget. Great times indeed 😎
  7. That's why I put it in quote marks. There are however inconsistencies throughout, which a session player would not have left in. Sure, the finished thing wouldn't have sounded the same, but that's not why you would get a top session player in.
  8. Sorry, absolute baloney that you would hear the fixes on tape if done properly. A better argument is the one @No. 8 Wire gives, and one I'll happily accept.
  9. But how much fixing? I visited a studio back in 2000 where the drum track for a well known British rock act was being painstakingly 'corrected' by the producer and engineer. They spent more time on the album than the band.
  10. Something slightly different from Labelle that I stumbled across and enjoyed:
  11. No-one has perfect timing after 4 pints of Best Bitter 😯 Yes, loads of 'mistakes' that a top session player would have ironed out, but then it really wouldn't sound anywhere near as good.
  12. Probably get a better resale value for the Alien as they are a 'known' bass. Guild are great, but not a particularly known model (or brand when it comes to bass).
  13. This video came up on the one that @ubit posted. The description at the top is great. The rest is a bit of a let down.
  14. Looks like at lot of waste going on in some of those scenes.
  15. Guitarist is the lovely Eliana Cargnelutti. Toured with her last year and did a couple of gigs with her at the start of this year. Her blues band is great - absolutely top bass player and drummer.
  16. Having a shot at a bass guitar derivative of Giorgi Moroder's bassline for I Feel Love. Has to be very derivative as the original synth line is several layers (including drums) blending in to one another. Really just a workout to get a really nice steady repeating pattern going.
  17. Lindsey Buckingham was in FM? Do the Overland brothers know of this?
  18. He also severed his thumb in a freak gardening accident with a garden gnome 🤘
