  1. I didn't get to do the 100 Club or Bridport, playing original Blues Rock until I was 55. I'm now 60, and after a short (but still too long) hiatus, I have every intention of doing it again. Also, forgot I once played the Royal Albert Hall!!
  2. I've played the 100 Club which was a bit of a thrill, and also played at the Crystal Palace Bowl which has hosted many greats, including Bob Marley. My favourite however, was a beautiful little restored theatre in Bridport - Bridport Electric Palace.
  3. I was working for a record company when this came out. Our big act was the Gipsy Kings. I liked GKs a lot, but thought Les Negresses Vertes were way, way cooler.
  4. Do this one instead (just seen it was written by Northern Irishman, Phil Coulter - a way better association than that dreadful Baddiel)!
  5. Looks like a nice event, though I did have a little laugh reading the website that describes the day as a celebration of French culture - did you have plenty of Edith Piaf and Johnny Holliday songs in the set? And we're the audience drinking vin rouge instead of Schlitz?!
  6. From being on this site for a good few years now, what I have seen is that the P Bass is hugely popular, possibly the most popular individual bass. What I have also seen is people turning over Jazz Basses in a search for the ultimate one - pick-up placing, neck profile, binding, blocks, maple/rosewood. Then they enter the realms of active, so again, pick-up choice, pre-amps, wiring. Those seriously afflicted then get into the 'Super Jazz' market. The P Bass user knows a P Bass sounds like a P Bass and just gets on with it (until gas kicks in and they want another one)!
  7. From the look of your set list and this post it seems like there are two separate acts within one band - the pub covers and a blues band. No harm in being both, just not at the same time.
  8. Are you going too far in one step? If he likes slightly less well known stuff from 50/60 years ago then Oasis and Killers are going to be no-gos for him. Try to match some newer stuff to his 5 or 6 favourite songs (feel free to share those on here and see what others come up with).
  9. Never been the biggest fan, but no denying its importance and its longevity is testament to Leo's skill and acumen.
  10. Thank you. I'll check this out tomorrow.
  11. Seems to be a fairly even split on the pop up banners. I'm on the absolutely hate the things side of the fence. I agree with @dave_bass5 the trade show vibe just isn't rock & roll enough for me I'm afraid.
  12. Trouble is (as an ex guitar shop owner) there are large numbers of people who hold the view that if anyone has tried an instrument it immediately becomes Ex-Demo, and therefore needs large amounts of money taken off. The other thing with trying is, despite CNC production techniques, basses and guitars of the same brand and model can feel very different. I had three Yamaha RBX170s delivered - the cheapest model. They were all absolutely fine, especially at the price point, but one was great, and just felt right in your hands. Sold that one to a friend for his son who still uses it 20 years on (and played a few festival dates with it).
  13. From what I hear regularly on here, a big yes. And the man who is heaped with praise is our own @KiOgon
  14. As @BassTractor posted earlier, it was indeed Che citta, but I'm pretty sure this was the version as I ended up buying the CD. Very modern sounding! Got there in the end.
  15. That's the style, but I am sure this one had some percussion on it (slack tuned drums played with beaters perhaps)? I WILL find it tomorrow!
  16. I will find the CD in a couple of days (buried in the garage) and put us both out of our misery! I'm probably describing it incorrectly, but feel it would be of interest to @Burns-bass
  17. Yep, this semi improvised stuff is fabulous. Got to find it ( but my CDs are all a bit squirreled away at the moment).
  18. @BassTractor once recommended to me some Baroque music with 'Basso Continuo' and some almost improvised percussion. I did end up buying the CD, but can't find it or remember who it was, but it was fabulous! Hopefully he'll see this and add some of his slightly unusual, but always excellent choices.
  19. Cort is an interesting brand - they are the manufacturers for many other better known names, including Squier, PRS(SE) G&L Tribute and Ibanez among others.
  20. Cort are excellent basses, although the big difference between them and a Squier is the resale value. Squier hold their value down to the name on the headstock that is the nearest the music instrument industry has to a household name. This does, however, make Cort an even better buy secondhand.
  21. What's the logo? Does it work well (really well) as white on black? If not, you may want to push it up to £15 and go less basic. Do you know the type of audience you attract? Is it nearly old XXL blokes or do you need a women's fit style? As with @Doctor J please have a CD available. Finally, get a contactless payment gizmo. So few people carry spare cash these days. Extra finally - whole band on merch stand to chat and sign, yes sign, stuff. I couldn't believe it when I was asked to sign our CD, and even a set list!
  22. With these people it is all about posture - so they won't be leaning anywhere. (Sorry, got my coat...)
  23. Norman Cook joined Paul Heaton to play bass on Happy Hour! Nice to see.
  24. Update - just seen this - well worth watching.
