  1. West Country Basschatters, I need your help. My band has another small tour coming up in November but it looks like we might have a problem around the Bude Festival. We are booked in on the Sunday, but the Italian band we will be touring with are on the Saturday bill. I'm looking for contacts for a pub gig for the Saturday night (we do an original set for the festival, but do two one hour sets mixing blues covers and originals for pubs). Needs to be between 1 and 2 hours from Bude as we are transporting the Italians and need to be back there for the Sunday. Happy to reciprocate with Sussex contacts if anyone can help out. Thanks.
  2. Fabulous old school solid state 1200 watt (at 2 ohms) bass head. Amazing valve like levels of grunt, plenty of low end but no mud. Ran this on a three band tour with the other bass players sharing it so got to hear it being played, and it sounded wonderful. I believe they have some link with the legendary Thunderfunk amps, but do not know the exact history. If anyone does know please feel free to post or PM, thanks. My gigging for the next year means I don't have the luxury of taking a large, very heavy (24kg) amp with me, so I'm back on Class d. Comes with ABS flight case (with a few scars, but nothing serious). Edited to add trades - always happy to consider any musically related trades - PA bits possibly, 5 stringers, guitars. Give me a try.
  3. My band (Lee Ainley's Blues Storm) have been asked to do a second night (having already been booked for our "home" gig in Brighton, supporting Erja Lyytinen, a stunning Finnish slide guitarist/singer. We will also be off to Dorset to open for her in Bridport. If anyone fancies either, Monday 18th, Komedia, Brighton, and Tuesday 19th, Electric Palace, Bridport.
  4. Yes. Use the open B in two of our original songs, and use a low D a lot. Also, as with @chaypup I use it a lot for finger position especially for E, F and F#.
  5. Love all the vintage Fender/car colours - Fiesta Red, Seafoam Green etc. Something about the shades that really do it for me. Voted blue as there are a couple of those that I really like.
  6. Love my Genzler - I've got the smaller 350. You'd probably want the bigger one by what you have said, however, I'm local (ish) to you if you want to try it at a rehearsal.
  7. Another great way is to use a small amount of a non-English language as a highlight. Fabulous example here helping to bring out the true melancholy that the original track possibly didn't convey.
  8. 5,2,2,0 - wouldn't call the two 19 year olds friends, but get on well with all of them.
  9. An IEC C19 cable - real pain in the backside as they are not something you can pick up on the high street whilst out on tour. Had to buy a new amp instead 😁
  10. It succeeded in giving Prog a bad name for 30 years!
  11. Saw the fantastic Songhoy Blues in Brighton last night. Was amazed at how many people were singing along! The singer did ask at one point if people knew what they were singing 😀
  12. Not a big lyric fan which is possibly why I'm very open to foreign language music. Here's a fave:
  13. DSL from Australia - looks like Gear 4 Music stock them now.
  14. Walk on by - Leroy van Dyke Walk on by - everyone else! I know someone who put the wrong version on a Bacharach & David compilation!
  15. Funny how that happens isn't it? Known and loved Little Feat since my teens, but only recently caught up with Allman Brothers.
  16. Are you sure about this? All the money they spend on theming and decorating the venue, sparkly dance floors etc, you can hardly turn up in your allotment cords and an old jumper!
  17. Well that was fun. Great sound on and off stage, band played brilliantly, big audience who loved it. Some really great feedback afterwards. Didn't win the vote to go on the mainstage next year, looks like the rock bands one that every night, but I've never been one for music as a competitive sport! Made some useful allies, and feel like the band have made another step up.
  18. You have a few years on me Blue - I've still got some time to get there
  19. Ah, well if we count those, yes, Kent County Show last year, but for the stand holders after the public had left (and with world cup on TV)! A slight aside, I saw Skunk Anansie at their distributor's conference - cellar bar in a hotel in Bracknell. Was amazing - less than a meter away from Skin for the whole set!
  20. I did it to a Gene once. Spent all day thinking about NOT doing it, as soon as he walked in the door, Hi Gene! Damn!!
  21. Looks like Jak's is the place to be!
