Function bands. How not to look like catering staff?
Mykesbass replied to uk_lefty's topic in General Discussion
Are you sure about this? All the money they spend on theming and decorating the venue, sparkly dance floors etc, you can hardly turn up in your allotment cords and an old jumper! -
Well that was fun. Great sound on and off stage, band played brilliantly, big audience who loved it. Some really great feedback afterwards. Didn't win the vote to go on the mainstage next year, looks like the rock bands one that every night, but I've never been one for music as a competitive sport! Made some useful allies, and feel like the band have made another step up.

Ah, well if we count those, yes, Kent County Show last year, but for the stand holders after the public had left (and with world cup on TV)! A slight aside, I saw Skunk Anansie at their distributor's conference - cellar bar in a hotel in Bracknell. Was amazing - less than a meter away from Skin for the whole set!

I did it to a Gene once. Spent all day thinking about NOT doing it, as soon as he walked in the door, Hi Gene! Damn!!

Chris, you probably had the pleasure of playing some decent gigs earlier in your career - I'm a late developer

Following on from the end of last year's tour - this Saturday sees the biggest gig of my playing career. Not bad for an old duffer! We'll be on the Introducing Stage at the Great British Rock & Blues Festival in Skegness. Anywhere between 600 and 1,000 proper die-hard music fans there for the likes of 9 Below Zero, FM, Saxon and many others. Good fun this original music lark!

Bands you just discovered that made you go “Wow!”
Mykesbass replied to TrevorR's topic in General Discussion
Fantastic Negrito is the first act in a long time that I've listened to on repeat. -
See you there!

Join the queue 😎

Brandon Boone anyone?

I'd be very happy if Oteil steps in for the Palladium show.

Sad news. I also contacted him during a quest for a preamp, and likewise got a prompt, friend reply.

It's the open pore I struggle with - sweaty paws 😩

I don't get on with the necks, otherwise I think I would have succumbed ages ago - great quality and value.

I heard a demo of one of these (5 string) - haven't been able to find it again, but it has given me serious gas for the Nordstrand Big Singles - they sound fabulous! Great looking bass to go with the great sounding pickups!

Full report (even down to the strings) or you can't call yourself a true Gear Stalker! (copyright the late Pete Academy I believe)

Quick update. We had our first rehearsal since the tour, so I took this along as the supplied bass gear is typical of rehearsal rooms - a bit of an afterthought. I plugged the Genzler into one of the room's Hartke Transporter 410s and it still sounded pretty damned great!! Not particularly loud, and one of the cones was farting, but so much better than when I've used my Carvin or their matching Hartke head.

How important is the band name for you?
Mykesbass replied to Barking Spiders's topic in General Discussion
Not a band name, but I'm sure someone on here had the tag line "your dad would like us" - anyone own up to this classic? -
Serious question, would a looped signal (basically a recording) interact with the amp in exactly the same way as the live signal?
-
Twice in the ten or so years I have been back gigging. First time, total failure of an early Yamaha class D job, ended up playing quietly through a Peavey guitar amp to get through the set. Second time, just a week ago, was on a small tour and the IEC from my main amp got cleared up, probably by the PA guys. Problem is, it is a Fender Pro 800, with an unusual, high power IEC, not the standard. Didn't have a spare IEC but did have my Carvin as a back up (oh, and then went and bought a Genzler so had a back up to the back up - my excuse and I'm sticking to it) 😎
-
No, but have just bought the Genzler and it sounds great through my two Purple Chili 112s. Played it in some good size rooms. And got to hear two other bass players playing through it, very, very happy with it.
