Most bands use backing tracks now, well most bands that apprear in the charts anyway. I used to be a bit unsure but once you start it adds a whole new dimension to to the sound. I don't think it is cheating or faking in anyway unless you are miming parts. the thing that you have to remember is that its not there as another musician its there to compliment what you are doing. so getting a balance on which tracks to use can be tricky. it's a good idea to get a producer in to help you out when running backing tracks at first as they are a fresh pair of ears who can sculp the backing around what you are doing. it's not good to do it the other way round. as everyone hasd said a click for the drummer is a must though! and also i'd recomend getting a small hardisk recorder to run the tracks from and not a laptop...theres nothing worse than your mac or pc freezing halfway through a song! also with this you can send a seperate click to the drummer and have the tracks coming out of another LR signal.
So, hypothetically, if I was to order a '68 jazz or some-such, would it cost more than the stock '64 Relic? Si
Hi Si. It probably wouldnt be much than a stock '64 to be honest. Probably come out at just over £2k i reckon.

Thanks Loz. the custom shop stuff is amazing at the moment. this one is only a team built one, but you wouldnt think it. Jake from FCS was saying that there is one guy who does all over the colour over colour relics! hes obviously been getting a lot of practice judging by mine! I must admit that i wasn't expecting it to be this relic'd but im glad it is now i have it! it's nice not worrying about marking it!
Very very nice!! Whats the thinking behind the 4 colours? surely that wasn't common practice in '59?! What's the deal with Custom Shop now? The website is a bit lame....only one Precision model, The Pino. One Time Machine Jazz, the '64. With the rest being made up by artist models, surely there is more!? Si
Thanks! the 4 colours thing was just because i wanted a unique cool looking cool! it was actually common in early fender basses from the factoryto have one colour over another to save them having to build new bodies once one had been finished for stock, whether they would of sprayed over CAR im not sure. Unfortunately Fender CS only make those models as standard now. anything else is a custom order! They really should bring back the 59 though. the pino is good but its not enough choice. the same with the jazz they should offer a 62 model and also a 68.

Hi all thought i'd share this with you all. just recieved my custom shop custom order P bass. It's easily one of the best basses i've ever played and definitly the best relic job I've seen! so specs were: slab dark rosewood board 9.25 radius, light relic C profile neck but pretty thin at the nut end and quite chunky towards the heel. alder body, finish, silver and gold primers, candy apple red and then olympic white over the top. then super heavy relic'd so all 4 colours are clearly visible. the bass has a matching headstock with light relicing around the edges so the red comes through. I'm one super happy chappy right now! only took 4 months for them to build too!

These Performers are fantastic. They were manufactured in Japan to Iceni's specs. (not to be confused with the latest performer model which were hand built in essex) they came out as best buy in bass guitar and guitar buyer. £299 is a steal for this. The necks on these feel fantastic!

posted this under my friends log in by accident..here it is again, bit from me. The Zoot cabs have now changed the branding. they are now called Purple Chilli and are absolutely fantastic. some design tweak upgrades from the zoot cabs and are now finished in a very swish purple tolex on the front half and black on the back half with white piping between. same combo of celestion drivers and eminance crossovers. they are light weight compact and good value. the website is uner construction but theres a myspace page with all the info up. just search purple chilli amps. id say its as good as my aguilar rig if not better.

Anything wrong with using extra light strings?
wesfinn replied to Golchen's topic in General Discussion
nothing wrong with it at all! I use 30 - 110s on my 5 string, i get a super low action and big tone still..although the bigger bassists still bully me about it -
How good does a (pop) bass player really need to be?
wesfinn replied to thisnameistaken's topic in General Discussion
I've been playing for about 10 years now and have the ability of someone whose been playing for a year or so. my technique is entirely self taught and for me this works great..ive been to a recognised music school to study a degree and ended up leaving as i just couldn't pick up the new techniques. however I have been in bands since starting playing and have gigged a heck of a lot which has been my most worthwhile thing for timing, feel and performance etc. In the last few years i've sessioned for a major label act and a couple of indie label bands and am now playing as part of a new band on a major label to be released later this year. so i guess what im trying to say is you don't have to be a technical or amazing bass player to play pop on any level. all you need to be able to do is play solidly and in time and put the occasional SIMPLE lick or fill in to make it a bit more interesting. In my experience every audition has been based more on my image and looks and 'performance' more than my playing (thankfully ^_^ ) when it comes to pop music! if you want to get into it then go on sites like starnow.co.uk and ukmusicjobs.net theres a fair few auditons popping up for decent pop acts every now and then. -
