1. More than likely that these are guitars purchased on dodgy cards from retailers over the phone which end up being chargebacks to the retailer. A lot of stuff ends up on ebay like that. May be wrong tho!
2. I was thinking the same thing about the pickguard, though you could order any thing as a custom order back then. anything was possible!
3. the metal flake is a lot heavier in this one. Probably a custom order one off.
4. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1963-Fender-Precisio...=item3a62100fd1 this bass is stunning!!....all it needs is an olympic white over coat haha

7.
At least the setup will be easy, just put it in your shed until the neck bows like a banana then leave it at that!!
Haha
8. Yep. going to be relic'd as per Herbie's! I'm trying to set up a meeting with him through a friend so I can hopefully get some more detailed pictures and to check he is happy with me doing the bass.
9. I mentioned a while back i was planning on building a replica of the infamous Herbie Flowers 1959 jazz bass. It's going to be as true to Herbie's as I can get it, down to the optional fuzz switch!! will also have touches such as the moved bridge and tape over the bridge pickup. Brazilian Rosewood board, sideways installed frets, Nitro finish, 2 ply black/white pickguard, vintage spec wiring. Well it's getting there. heres a shot of the body with the first fiesta red coat applied over the white primer. I will start work on the neck soon. I will be moving out of my workshop in 2 weeks and will be working from the Zoot workshop (thanks Mike) in essex until I have finished all the work i have on at the moment. So expect for sale soon the following..please PM if you are interested. -Herbie Flowers jazz -Blonde ash 1960 Jazz bass (the one that I started a build thread for ages ago....the body is done. Just need to finish the neck)

12. I love his work! Never seen or played one in the flesh mind. very exensive though. Maybe if I find out the fossils that I used to collect as a kid and inlay them in the fingerboards of my basses...Maple neck with 60 million year old sea urchin inlay - £10,000
13. interesting...this kids is what can happen if you take too much acid! what I really dont get about this is that it must of been quite a lot of work to encase the body in zebrana veneers! it would of been much quicker to make a new body from scratch!
14. Gil is the master of vintage repro. One of my biggest inspirations and a genuinely nice guy who is always willing to share information. His basses are worth every single pound even though they are a several thousand!
15. The guy who used to run my local in Essex now runs the Old Bell on Sadler gate. Its got a good size venue room there and they probably have a jam night. The jam night they had in essex was fantastic.
16. if it was only in the venue then i would say it was almost certainly interference. Robbie has shielded the cavity more than well enough. But as everyone is saying it could be anything in the venue from fruit machines to beer pumps to light fittings! If you are worried about it though i'd take it to Robbie and get him to install an earth eylet on the base of the cavity and then earth from the top of each pot to the eyelet.
17. I think Ellie's version is really nice. Embrace the pop!
18. Those crazy germans! I remember when the prototype of this came into the bassmerchant when I worked there many years ago. The pleasure pump hadn;t been invented by then though.
19. I work for a guitar store and the best reason I've had from a courier was that the parcel was signed for by somebody using a pen with invisble ink which had dissapeared by the time the driver got back to his van so he went over the indent with his own pen! thus the £3000 gibson 335 went missing...until it turned up a day later in the recipents shed hidden behind a parasol after the investigation had been made into it all!
20. This should be comletely down to the courier company. In this scenario a claim needs to be made to the corier for the value of the instrument and include delivery costs. It is their responisbility to ensure that the package is signed for by the name on the delivery address unless there are instructions to leave with a neighbor if not home etc. They should be able to ascertain pretty quickly that the driver was at fault and then pay out a claim as long as the full value of the package was declared etc at the time of sending.
21. BUMP with last day on sale price of £1100.
22. Weekend BUMP!
23. the serial numbers are on the neck plate.
24. final price drop of £1200!!
