1. Or - get a single hole thumb rest from Guy Lewis & use the existing hole on the top edge of pick guard, no extra holes to drill That's what I do, it's the perfect position for me, all my P's have one fitted in the exact same place & of course you can change back with no holes left. You can see one in the picture of my red HW1. Big + they're a thousand times nicer than a Fender plastic one Cheerz, John
2.
Thanks - turned out to be an Opera thing. Works with Firefox. What are their half-rounds like?
Can't help you there, not tried them. I tried GHS Ground Wounds once but I'm definitely a Flatwound person, always have been, always will be
3.
That link goes to the Status homepage, can't find a way to their strings pricelist from there
http://www.status-graphite.com/status/frames/index_home.html Menu on left > follow the arrows > you'll get there
4. Smooth as a baby's bum mate photos taken just now, not far from new strings, hope they show OK. Cheerz, John
5. Thanks for that, mine has the serial number engraved on the neck plate only, so no silver or black I'm guessing '87 then?
6. Wish I knew about that would have been there for sure.
7. Hey Dave, I hope you don't mind if I tag this onto your thread - I was given a Fenix Jazz the other day & started this thread:- http://basschat.co.u...__fromsearch__1 Although I haven't got it together in a playable state yet, is all seems pretty good so far I would also be interested in any help with serial number dating, mine is E737656, Made in Korea, (I believe). Cheerz, John
8. "Gibson produces 530 guitars a day" & some of them even get through quality control
9. Is there a serial number hidden by the flash/reflection on the back of head?
10. Another vote for Status Hotwires, http://www.status-graphite.com/status/frames/index_home.html best value for money flatwounds without doubt & they're good - I mean very good - I mean they're comparable to the £40 ish big name flats. GHS Precision Flats on a P-bass & TI JF344's on a Jazz bass for the win if you don't mind the price tag
11. Not mine & nothing to do with me - but I think this deserves a look - good photo's: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RARE-GDR-MADE-PRECISION-BASS-WITH-MARTIN-NASH-ARTWORK-FRONT-BACK-MARLIN-SLAMME-/130755443065?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item1e71a1b979#ht_3709wt_1137
12. Ground/earth contact - bridge to pick up ground plate, then wired to back of pots etc.
13. I've got another neck (fretted) all ready to fit, not a problem, but the original fretboard may not be as bad as it looks it the pictures. I've cleaned it with surgical spirits, set the truss rod so it's now flat & ready to sand. Having looked at it with a 9.5 radius sanding block on , it's not bad.
14. Mobility scooters at the cafe today, said Hi to Raymondo's Mum
15. I can see nobody is interested in my latest acquisition but just in case anybody reads this What do you think? Relic or not to relic, that is the question I've never been a great fan of the relic thing but confronted with an old beater that's 1/2 way there already, I am tempted Pictures of how it is in 1st post.
16. I would say their main use is as a complete 'drop in' replacement of wiring/pots/jack with quality components & a simple solderless connection. Ideal for many bass players who may not be so mechanically competent or technically minded or not have the tools or not too good at soldering or just can't be arsed or would rather save money compared to taking their bass to a luthier or guitar/music shop down the road. Their advantage is you are getting a custom/hand made, individually tested bit of kit which you know is good & will provide 'the best' possible signal path from your pick ups to your cable - into your amp. The advantage over a perfectly good, quality, factory installed wiring kit is minimal at best probably negligible & couldn't be classed as an upgrade at all, but if you are replacing an old, worn, tired, dirty, scratchy, loose connection, cheaper than chips, crappy piece of probably far eastern sh*te components, then the advantages can be enormous. Performance, long life & reliability are of course worth considering, many people will say - worth it just for the peace of mind. I would also say if you are thinking of upgrading the pick ups in a bass, then surely it's also a good idea to upgrade the parts that can make all the difference, for less than you might think. If you would like a kit, I am very happy to discuss specs & details by PM before giving a price, please feel free to contact me if you're interested. BTW my feedback may be worth a look Cheerz, John
17. Hello - is it me you're looking for
18. Show us a picture of the pick up wires & the back of the control plate - should be simples
19. If they've only got one wire it ain't going to work.
20. Cheap as chips http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Jazz-J-Bass-Guitar-Pickguard-Scratch-Plate-3-Ply-White-Tortoise-Shell-fit-Fender-/260923081417?pt=UK_Guitar_Accessories&hash=item3cc03a42c9
21. Even the strings I found in the bag are OK, an assortment of Flatwounds & the bag is a Ritter as good as new with the label on still. All in all - not bad for a freebie
22. I have just picked up, courtesy of Freegle or Freecycle as it was, a bit of a dog jazz that has been poorly de-fretted, bits & pieces missing etc. With a bit of TLC it'll be 'workable' I'm sure looks like a RI model, with brass link from bridge to pick up. Thing is, having never heard the name/make before I thought I'd google it, like you do first thing that caught my attention was this gumtree ad: http://www.gumtree.c...toise/107799274 Plese tell me they're not worth £299! Interesting from wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia....iki/Young_Chang Cheerz, John Anyone want pictures? sorry removed because of unlimited access it seems!
23. Trying to view this on my android as my pc won't connect. I'm getting "no such pictures" in a black frame. Are they working for anyone?
