5. No problems at all, everything I play goes through - Fender Gold Cable to TC polytuner into Little Bastard - 4x8 & 1x12. I have a bench magnifier which runs 2 daylight tubes, that can induce 50Hz hum into anything, 'til I off it! From memory the Jazz is no worse than any other & certainly no extra noise with either pick up solo. The only surprise I got with the '62 Jazz was the stepping on the tone pots, I didn't know they did that! The after market pots I have are just normal, smooth sweep.
6. I'm very happy with my AV '62 Ri Jazz, no problem with output compared with everything else & plenty of tone variation on both pups. I have stacked pots to fit in my Frank Bello but I've been lazy & not got around to it yet Cheerz, John
7. It looks gorgeous I'm looking for a good fretless but Stingray's don't quite do it for me somehow GLWTS John
8. He got it so right 1st time! 60 years on & they're still top sellers
9. Same bass on ebay (not neccessarily THE same one, I don't know) anway £400 starting bid!
10. You're not wrong Looks good
11.
. You wanted to see his Vintage Modified Yorkshire Tea box
12.
A lot of players may find this a worthwhile upgrade.
I think you'll find that comes under maintenance, not an upgrade as such
13.
It's all the same air bud,
You have no idea if the air is the same or not if you haven't tested it, yes it might have started the same but after different compressor, filters, etc. even the pressure may well be more accurate on the machine where you have to pay 20p.
Absolutely. The reason you spend the extra on a Lindy Fralin is because it sounds different... the sort of different that is difficult to get all the time. You're missing the point, which the OP was making in the first place - if you fit expensive pick ups to a sub standard or faulty wiring loom, how do you expect them to perform properly? Right again. Your 250k is the same as mine = the air in your tyres is the same as the air in mine. The type of air makes no difference as to how the tyre functions.
Wrong again. But enough about tyres
14. Get a set of Flea fingers
15.
No that's slightly facetious. But continuing the analogy, when we are speaking about the musical response of pots you might as well be saying to your tyre guy "don't get the air for your tyres here, it's free. The garage round the corner charges 20p air... it's bound to be better".
Nothing facetious about it, we are talking analogue values that can readily be measured & justified, tyre performance or components in a signal path. The air for 20p may well be 'better', how would you know without testing & comparing? Otherwise you're just jumping to conclusions.
16. If you upgrade any components, not just on a bass, to ones of 'top spec' you surely expect an improvement? Otherwise why waste money buying 'better' pick ups, or top quality strings over cheap ones? Why pay for quality tyres on your car? They're just black round things right? A very important point made by the OP is that if you're changing pick ups, usually at considerable expense, you may well not get the improvement you expect if your wiring + all the components in the signal path, (not just pots), capacitor, wiring & soldering are not up to a high standard. You can't deny that.
17. A big thank you to all the mods & admin that have been + a big welcome to all those new to be. Thanks for keeping this place great & all the work you put in that goes mostly unnoticed. Cheerz, John
18. I made a P-bass wiring kit for Tim, it was a pleasure dealing with him all the way, great comms, instant payment, all the things that make dealing on here so good. No hesitation in recommending this fine fellow to all. Cheerz, John
19.
One of John's excellent Jazz bass wiring loom bought. I never knew that decent pots (and soldering) could make such a difference to the sound of a bass. It sounds great! Make sure your control plate is made for the larger CTS pots. Mine wasn't so I needed to get the old file out. Gareth
Just thought I'd say - if you have a control plate with holes too small for CTS pots, you can send it to me - I'll modify it & build your kit directly onto it, or I can supply a suitable plate. Cheerz, John Whilst I'm here, I'd also like to say thanks guys for all the good feedback, it's a pleasure dealing with you all
20.
A rather fantastic Zon legacy Standard (bolt on neck) for sale in Edinborough with an absolute bargain buy it now price of £799! http://www.ebay.co.u...=item4d03b21a40
Local collection welcome - go get it
21. Horses for courses, GHS Precision Flats for P-Bass, TI Jazz Flats for Jazz bass, for me they don't suit the other way round. GHS Black Nylons when I want that silky tone, these work on P's & J's. GHS are expensive in the UK but easy to get direct from the states, TI's also costly but worth the money every time. Status Hot Wires I'd vote best value for money though, all rounders - really top class flatwounds at very sensible price, usually posted next day
22. I thought it was solved? Dave Swift, Jool's bassist
23. A regular on http://www.bbc.co.uk/later/ ?
24.
None of us have any idea who this bloke is: Are we missing something??
Was Dudley Moore on piano? 'Cos in this shot the bassist looks to me like Peter Cook
25. Is it Bill Black? Sorry i could only watch the backing singers
