1. My advice would be to get googling & teach yourself how to do your own set ups. There's tons of info out there & there's nothing more satisfying that getting things exactly as you like them, IMO you'll never get close when you pay someone else to do it Whereabouts are you?
2. Oh no! that really is a shock R.I.P. Bob.
3. Oh dear it's too late Congrats on the new bass pictures please
4. Looks like you can plug your lead in to the front [s]bumper[/s] fender
5. 'Tis a lovely golour but looks like it's had a fair old bash down by the jack socket, big chip out of it & I'm wondering how far that 'possible crack' or join in the wood separating, might run under the scratch guard Wouldn't risk it without close inspection personally.
6. I'm a great DiMarzio supporter, I reckon they're better than most apart from the mega bucks maybe. When I play my '57 with the DP127 it just blows the other P's out of the room! But it's all very personal innit! IMHO, YHMV, IME & all that depends on the amp too IYAM.
7. White you say!
8. I bought some pick ups from Jack, he posted them as arranged & they arrived very nicely packed indeed. Exactly as described, no problems, great guy to deal with, my pleasure to start a thread for him. Cheerz, John
9. Excellent & exciting! Well done just go easy on the 60 year olds
10. I also only play seated, sometimes more sometimes less than an hour or two every day almost. Most of my arthritic pains come out in my neck & shoulders although my worst areas are lower back, fortunately my hands are not so bad, (touches wood). All I can suggest is Voltarol Emugel, I used to get it on prescription until they tried saving a few bob & gave me some useless shyte. But seriously it is wonderful for pain relief IMO & allows the joints & muscles to 'work again'. Maybe not a long term cure, but it sure helps as temporary & almost instant relief, for me. Other medical diagnoses are available & should almost certainly be looked into type disclaimer
11. Truly mint? As in unused, unmarked? Private sale or dealer? Warranty on not? I'd say 75% of high street price top.
12. There's not many soldering irons that could get up enough steam to solder to any bridge! Normal way is to fan out the bare ends of the wire & trap it under the bridge, best if it also make contact with one of the fixing screws. If you want to make sure of contact, scrape away a area of paint/anodizing where the wire will touch. Cheerz, John Snap - simultaneous posting
13. May I point out - it's Not A Preamp - just a passive wiring kit. of the highest quality - obviously Apologies for the intrusion GLWTS John
14. Oh no! That's terrible! It's finished! What you going to do now? Absolutely wonderful great job
15. I used to think the ease & range of adjustment made them worthwhile - but I'm alright now
16. Something's not right! I wouldn't say a short but must be very poor insulation, possibly damaged or even damp? I just tested a Fender Gold Bass cable 12' & it's 1.1 Ohms tip to tip, 0.8 Ohms sleeve to sleeve, Greater than 2000K Ohms between tip & sleeve. My meter's highest range is 2000K.
17. Thanks for that, the holes show up clearly on the underside picture, obviously the same as the plate I have on my '62. Cheerz, John
18. Hi TorVic, the Jaco looks wonderful, I'm after a good fretless & have been looking at both the Jaco or the Victor Bailey, the latter seems a bit more like hen's teeth. I would appreciate your answer to a simple question I know the Tort Jazz plate comes with & I see there is also a thumbrest in the case candy, my question is "is the plate drilled for the thumbrest & if so, which side?" I understand the body is not drilled for any fixings. I'm at this moment contemplating drilling my AV '62 Jazz to fit a thumbrest above the E, (all my P's have a T/R there already) & I just wanted to check if the Jaco plate has the holes. Thanks, John
19. Maybe easier to swap necks, what bass is it? Cheerz, John
20. Yes Deb if it's a Highway One - just buy it - they're quality, this 2003 I got recently is superb! Hope this helps your GAS
21. GAS is a state of mind, I don't mind doing hours of research, it just convinces me I must have, I don't mind doing my sums for hours, it just convinces me I should be spending my money on something else, (I nearly said more important then!) I don't mind putting a wanted ad up, just to see if anyone has one to sell, that usually convinces me that no-one else has one or if they do they're not selling it so it must be good. I don't mind searching the dealers in the hope that someone somewhere will have exactly what I want & I can go & try one. Then I don't mind trying to get the best price possible, sometimes coming home empty handed because I know I can get one for less on the net. I even don't mind taking the risk of buying from someone I've never heard of or met, possibly several thousand miles away on another continent, as long as they've got the right bass at the right price & having to wait days for it to arrive. 'Cos when you get the first sight of that new bass & play it for the first time, all that GAS has gone - it's like being in the calm, at the eye of the hurricane - just for a while, then the bloody GAS comes back again Don't give up GASSING, it would be boring without GAS, just keep taking the pills & paying the bills - & give in to GAS when you can Cheerz, john
22.
What exactly is a Greasbucket loom? Is this a more 70's style loom than a normal loom? Only reason i ask is that im about to undertake a very similar 70's P Bass bitsa project and will be using one of Kiogons wiring looms but was just going to ask for the normal one, didnt realise there were variants. Sorry to hijack, have a free bump for a delicious bass
Fender's Grease Bucket is basically a couple of extra components in the tone circuit which in my interpretation, prevents the bottom end getting 'muddy or mushy'. Google it for Fender's own words.
