2. 1973 Earls Court, I was there & can probably dig out some more details, if I can get my brain to work again I have a bootleg, Tour 73 bought from Roger & Dave in the foyer! Those concerts were the first DSOM in full & where the recordings were made IIRC. We had a coach *TRIP* from our local pub, about 50 of us went, can't remember quite how many came home but it was most excellent
3.
B is 1.625" (not 1.5") isn't it? Otherwise I agree.
I beg you pardon, typing error you are absolutely right of course Edit: I'll edit my post! Edit 2: Agree with all above!
4. Looks like the one which the straps Fender supply with the American Vintage '57 & '62 models are based on
5. I personally wouldn't dream of paying that much 'starting bid even!' for a bass from ebay without some decent provenance. The stated "green ink proves nothing except 5 is a Precision neck & B is 1.625" nut. Photo's of date code on pots may help + if there's any info on the body in the neck pocket or cavities. Neck plates 'like that' are easily available on ebay, BTW that checks out as 1970 on guitardaterproject.org I'm not an expert & not saying it's fake or genuine, just my opinion, it's a lot for a chance buy. Edit: Nut size corrected.
6. Sorry I dropped it don't come close
7. I've seen some damaged stuff for sale by gear4music but this takes the biscuit! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fender-Rumble-75-Bass-Combo-Amp-Damaged-RRP-209-/270962279774?pt=UK_MusicalInstr_Amplifiers_RL&hash=item3f169c455e#ht_2259wt_790
8.
There's a song on that wall. anybody spot it...?
Ventura Highway? don't ask me why BTW - Nice bass
9. Neat Ned clever design
10. Not wishing to state the obvious - but a good set-up (on the bass, not you) - can really make playing so much easier speaking as an arthritic old git Cheerz, John
11. Howdo & welcome, from a 60+ old git who learnt bass on a fretless, home made 1964 by my dad & couldn't afford the fret wire Be good, have fun with your lad, (that's not meant to sound at all wierd!) Cheerz, John
12.
Yeah I think I saw Jimi Hendrix using that stuff
Me too!
13. Today I've done a complete set-up with TI Jazz Flats on my new '62 Jazz & I have to say it is absolutely superb a match made in bass heaven I also fitted a new set of GHS Precision flats to my '51 P & hey presto equilibrium is restored, TI's didn't suit it at all IMHO Yes strings are such a major part of the whole, Cheerz, John
14. Fender factory fitted roundwound strings Super Bass 7250ML NPS, 45/65/80/100, taken off '62 AV Jazz, no original packaging. £7.50 posted UK, Paypal as personal payment OK. SOLD Thanks Cheerz, John
15. Yep it's stacked!
16. Hi Steve, I've not had a US standard P or J to compare, but I had a MiM P in 3TS when I bought my '62 P AV & TBH there's honestly not a huge tangible difference, but there is certainly a feel of quality to the AV's which IMO you don't get in the others. Money's worth? I've only paid near the mark for my '57 P, the '62 P I got direct from the states at a bargain price & the '62 Jazz in a trade. No I wouldn't/couldn't necessarily pay the street price for them, but I reckon they are top of the quality tree, next to custom shop jobs It's not easy when you go into a shop to try a bass or 3 & the only thing they generally have strung with flats is a Pino
17.
It's very nice, I... wait a minute, it's a Jazz Bass!? What's going on??
I know! TBH what happened was I bought a set of TI Jazz Flats to try on my '51 P, but they just didn't feel right on that - I decided I needed a Jazz Bass to put them on yip - working now and it looks very nice indeed, where did you get it from? A trade with paul j h yesterday What no full- frontal shots! Nice bass. Cheerz, I'll get some full frontal done when it's oiled & strung & got the plastic off
18.
no - still private BTW - did it come with period correct strings (flats) or those dreaded modern things?
I hope it works now comes with standard Fender Roundwounds, 7250 I think, very shortly to be changed to TI Jazz Flats
19.
It's asking for a pass word to see the pics. Edit: This is my dream bass (as long as it's sunburst or black) and I'm going to get one for my 60th birthday..... if I make it Edit2: Make the album public instead of private.
Hopefully have done, please let me know Good luck for the 60th redstriper my 60th treat was my '57P
20.
Private album eh? What you hiding?!
Ah! Does that mean the link don't work? I dunno how to work these things really, I'm only here for the beer
21. Still got the cling film on the Tort plate http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v48/kjon51/Fender%2062%20Jazz%20Bass%20American%20Vintage%20V197801/?albumview=slideshow Hope that works!
22.
I've used Thomastik flats a lot and I do like them but hooked on La Bellas at the the moment.
I've gone the other way! Taken La Bellas off my '51P & tried TI Jazz Flats. Only had them on a week but don't think they feel right for me. They're a bit lightweight by comparison, not by gauge by sound, a bit twangy or too bright. I think they will be more suited to a Jazz bass I've just acquired so I'll be fitting my long time favourites - GHS Precision Flats - to my '51P & stringing up the '62 Jazz with the TI's. Cheerz, John
23. 'Twas my delight to meet up with Paul this afternoon, usual clandestine affair, underground car park, city centre miles from home So now having returned home, late in the day, 'tis my great pleasure to start a feedback thread for him. We each travelled a hundred miles or so to our 1/2 way meet up & do a trade/exchange of basses, funny handshakes, hand over of cash etc. etc. It was a pleasure to meet Paul, it all went exactly as planned, we both got there on time & most importantly we were both delighted with our exchange of basses. Cheerz Paul, a real smooth deal, no problems at all, a smashing bloke, recommended to all, another true gent of this parish. Great meeting you, small world ain't it, turns out our 'other halves, were both born in the same town. All the best, Cheerz, John
24.
Listen to his tone on this... monster! Does anyone know how he get's this crunch tone?
It's in his fingers - - - - - - - - - - Arthritis
