It's asking for a pass word to see the pics. Edit: This is my dream bass (as long as it's sunburst or black) and I'm going to get one for my 60th birthday..... if I make it Edit2: Make the album public instead of private.
Hopefully have done, please let me know Good luck for the 60th redstriper my 60th treat was my '57P
I've used Thomastik flats a lot and I do like them but hooked on La Bellas at the the moment.
I've gone the other way! Taken La Bellas off my '51P & tried TI Jazz Flats. Only had them on a week but don't think they feel right for me. They're a bit lightweight by comparison, not by gauge by sound, a bit twangy or too bright. I think they will be more suited to a Jazz bass I've just acquired so I'll be fitting my long time favourites - GHS Precision Flats - to my '51P & stringing up the '62 Jazz with the TI's. 'Twas my delight to meet up with Paul this afternoon, usual clandestine affair, underground car park, city centre miles from home So now having returned home, late in the day, 'tis my great pleasure to start a feedback thread for him. We each travelled a hundred miles or so to our 1/2 way meet up & do a trade/exchange of basses, funny handshakes, hand over of cash etc. etc. It was a pleasure to meet Paul, it all went exactly as planned, we both got there on time & most importantly we were both delighted with our exchange of basses. Cheerz Paul, a real smooth deal, no problems at all, a smashing bloke, recommended to all, another true gent of this parish. Great meeting you, small world ain't it, turns out our 'other halves, were both born in the same town. All the best, Cheerz, John

Have you seen these? http://www.timber-tones.com/ I use a leather 'mandolin' pick sometimes, I like a soft touch There's some good looking picks there, don't know about the prices

I'm just 'running in' a new set of TI Jazz Flats & to me they're the tinniest twangiest set of flats I've got, if you haven't got anything deeper & darker & lower down the tone range than TI's, there's a lot you can try. Mind you I'm not a Streamer man, but I would think a set of GHS Precision Flats or LaBellas would be very deep & dirty on it! I really don't like rounds at all, but I always seem to have them on one bass, (the one I never play) just so I don't forget

Yes, turn your caps lock off.

Much difference with expensive pickups vs cheaper ones ?
KiOgon replied to gub's topic in General Discussion
I put SD quarter pounders into my Mexican P bass.....and didn`t notice any difference at all. Except they look better. And I`m £50 down. However, lots of other people rave about them,so perhaps I just had great original pickups....
Did you try plugging it into a amp? -

If £20 is all you want to spend you can get 'Tesco Value' pickups if you want 'Quality' pickups you have to pay more What can you expect for £10 each? Just my opinion. John -
Les Paul's guitars and other equipment up for auction

I'll go £51 for the '51 Nocaster -
If it was me - I'd get in touch with Status first call, Fender P's are certainly 34" 'long scale' so you shouldn't have a problem. They'll sort you out I'm sure. Cheerz, John
These are an inexpensive way to improve your bass's electronics: http://www.ebay.co.u...=item1e5d053f9e
Not inexpensive - just cheap! I made some kits using Alpha pots as I was asked to make some cheaper sets for a particular job. Then when I tested them I had to buy 4 replacement pots, not happy. The way they are made is just not the same as CTS pots, so if you're going to go to the trouble of getting new pots, at least get proper ones that are built to last. IMHO, Cheerz, John

Just reading the pdf catalogue & found this: "Thru-Body Flat Wound String (Available in all of the above sets) La Bella Strings introduces the first successful flat wound bass string meant specifically for electric basses where the strings pass through the body. These flat wound bass strings are specially designed for instruments with string openings through the body. This design adds a unique resonance as the strings pass through the solid wooden body and over the bridge from underneath. With this configuration, the resulting sharp angle located at the bridge can cause the flat wound outer wrap to crack, fray or break with standard strings. To avoid any damage to the string. La Bella Strings has engineered a durable yet flexible section near the ball-end. Both the string and great sound remain intact." The 'above sets' include all the Deep Talkin' Bass, Original 54's etc. Interesting, the number of times I've heard 'you shouldn't string them through body' & how many breakages I heard blamed on that!
