Hard to tell from my armchair, it's one of those things you need to get your hands on to determine really. Is it a seller you trust Cheerz, John

I believe spec above is missing some important facts these White Blondes are made from Ash bodies, not many other Fenders or P's in general have that. Also the neck - all one piece Maple neck with Walnut skunk stripe - 1.75" nut, 7.25" radius, .045" x .080" vintage frets, If you like a 'vintage neck' you'll love these, it's all about the feel, I love playing mine & I'm sure this on offer above is just as fine GLWTS, Cheerz, John -
Thanks for that, was the old 'Made in Japan' consistently both upper & lower case then? Possibly a date of change to all Caps could be established? Does this also mean the 08.11.20 is a date stamp & maybe common to find on these? Therefore a easy way of more accurate dating? Cheerz, John

Pro luthier job to get the best possible repair to the outside, then I'd get a sheet of carbon fibre & resin a couple of layers over the inside before re-fitting the pots.

Using amp to practice in flat...odd question
KiOgon replied to RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE's topic in Amps and Cabs
Do a search for Gramma pad, that will provide some insulation. -
Pleased to have found this thread, I'm havin a bit of bother dating my MiJ '51 P, bought from Old Horse Murphy - Nick a long time ago, as a 94/95 manufactured, which I've always believed , (so did Nick), & has checked out on every website I've tried. Having spoken to Nick it seems he was told the same when he bought it from a well known guitar/amp/keyboard shop in Brighton almost 3 years ago. Now I've fitted new strings & decided to give it a good set-up, I've removed the neck & found what I have to assume is date stamp! So what do you think? Jazz v. Precision Bass- question from [relative] newbie
KiOgon replied to barnettiuk's topic in Bass Guitars
This would be my view. A P doesn`t necessarily "cut" more, but due to the natural tone, it has more presence.
^^ Nicely put ^^ -
Yes CTS 250k are the best pots
-
I wouldn't want to deal with your 'local guitar shop' if he thinks that's a complicated job God help us! The .022uF cap is probably meant for a guitar circuit but you can use it & listen - if you don't like the tone change it for the .1uF or a .047. What pots have you got? They're more important Cheerz, John

Can you convert a car subwoofer and car amp into a bass rig?
http://www.maplin.co...er-supply-42702
That'll never power it, taken from a review:- " Let me start by saying that the Alpine MRP M350 is a good amplifier. However, the reported power rating of 700 watts is misleading. While it was possible to generate the 700 watts they claimed, this was at a distortion level in excess of 45%. Also, the power was achieved by drawing nearly 60 amps of current and which was only possible after replacing the included fuses with fuses rated at 50% more current capacity. Basically, this is a nice marketing number is an unrealistic and a unusable specification." I don't think you'll get a useful sound from a bass guitar with that setup but worth a try I suppose, can you rig up a car battery for testing? In fact the more of the review I read the more bullshit is evident & yes as said above you'll need a pre-amp before the power amp. Random foam objects and the quest for cheap mutes
KiOgon replied to dannybuoy's topic in General Discussion
I have used a piece of Butyl pond liner, actually a sample piece (sent out free by manufacturers for the asking) rolled up like a cigar or sausage to fit under the strings. -
Serial number too! That checks out on guitardater as pukka! Blatant rip off, how can these not be pulled like Ric's?
Think I'll always prefer flats myself, but I do keep one bass strung with roundwounds - DR Nickel Lo-Riders, which I find in tone & tension to be a good halfway house. Going from a flats perspective, for a more contemporary tone, I like Sadowsky black label flats. Great feel, lot of presence & mids... I've had a set on my Shergold for over a month now, they've just settled in - not thumpy oldschool, more in the vein of TI's but with sensible tension - georgeous strings.
^^ Aren't Sadowsky strings re-badged GHS? My favourite long time have been GHS Precision Flats, got them on my 'best P's. Just trying TI Jazz Flats, first time I've had a new set, they're certainly lovely tension & soft/flexible but a bit on the bright side - even, dare I say a bit tinny - I'm sure they'll improve with use & when the neck has settled & been tweaked Cheerz, John

Thought I'd let you know - they do fit - JUST JF344s arrived today, good service from Stringbusters (again), fitted through body on to my '51P with just enough clearance, about 3mm from the nut to the silk on E string. They easily fitted through the bridge & body, no problem going over the bridge, they're so much more pliable than some I could mention. Of course they're a bit smaller gauge than I'm used to so they feel a bit 'girlie' at first but might need a 1/4 turn off the truss rod, when the neck settles, it's a bit too flat at the moment They do suit the '51 well though, I pondered fitting them on my '62 but the're more suited to the B neck & not the C I reckon.
