1. I use the single screw options from Guy on my P's to avoid drilling extra holes, so they can be put straight back to standard. If you choose the normal 2 screw then it will fit back further towards the pick up. Photo of single hole thumb rest, Ebony from Guy, position on my AV '62 P-bass:-
2.
Do you use it??
Yes I use it & I have one in the same position on each of my P's (give or take a mm) it makes for easy transition arse! If I play pick, (notalot) I'm mostly down by the bridge, palm muting, so not in the way at all.
3. If you don't mind me saying like - you don't need to BUMP so often, it becomes irritating if someone wants it they'll find it Great amps BTW & GLWTS. Cheerz, John
4. If you want a cheap P-bass? - I've just been down town to 'crack convertors' & seen a Encore P - Fiesta Red & Tort plate, £59 - looks a lot better than you'd think for 'pocket money' From the same importers (JHS) as Vintage I believe If I weren't such a self confessed 'badge snob' I'd have bought it
5. I don't know where you've been looking at Mexican P's that are so bad? I've had 2 both bought blind second hand, a 2003 & a 2008 that were both superb, not just for me but the guys I sold them on to were also well impressed. As long as the build quality is good - there's a whole lot of improvement in playability that comes from a proper set up. That applies equally to a £2000 bass though, not a criticism of Fender Mexican Japanese or USA. IMO you just won't find a new bass in a shop that is set up to how it's right for you, unless you're exceedingly lucky, it's very personal & once you bond with a instrument - then you can start 'getting it right' I know I have the time, inclination, experience & patience that some may not, but I'm constantly tweaking my basses until I'm happy that it's set up as well as it can be - FOR ME! If I sell a bass I always offer to set it up for the buyer, especially if they don't like the strings that I do, then I'll change strings (at their cost & choice) & set it up. If I was dealing with a shop I would hope for the same service!!! Cheerz, John
6. Sargent Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band - into a <10 minute medley
7. Another straightforward deal with Steve, great comms, instant payment, no problems at all, a real pleasure to deal with Cheerz, John
8. Oh no! I wouldn't like that at all, I reckon the Fender 'vintage style' frets make all the difference - seriously - hope you get it sorted. Welcome to the machine BTW Cheerz, John
9. It's not interesting it's just plain WRONG IMO
10.
Anybody got a pic of the new Jade Pearl Metallic finish? I'm thinking British Racing Green. Would look great with a black plate and maple neck methinks.
Viva Colours?

13. The MTD looks a delightful bargain! All together seems a very very capable setup, congrats
14. So about £680 including shipping + 3.7% duty + VAT 20% + handling charge approx £12.
15.
More photos: http://s1206.photobu...bb442/solo4652/
Looks right enough, I'd guess £350 if you're lucky - up to £500ish if it's really good & what you want, they're quite often on ebay.
16. I think we need more than a head shot to form an opinion on, got any more?
17.
I much prefer them to Schallers, have never had a problem with the screw coming out and have them on most of my basses for years. I have had that strap nut frequently loosen after time on Schallers, however.
Me too, I've changed Schallers for Jim Dunlops, now on all mine. @steve-bbbThey also make a recessed (in the body) version (as fitted to my Skjold) which takes the same strap fitting & the strap fits right up close to the woodwork.
18. Don't forget that Rotosound Roundwound's had only just started to make an appearance & everybody who was anybody was giving them a good thrashing Consider that in your search for that sound
19.
I have - he lives on the other side of the mirror in our bathroom. Didn't Ace Kefford use one on "Night of Fear"? That has some real growly, aggresive bass.....
It's all coming back to me now Long story - when I were a lad, Roy Wood was dating our guitarist's sister & when he used to come down to Hastings (Northiam actually) for a 'session' John (Ace) often used to come with. So in that lovely old cellar where we used to have a smoke & a beer or 12 & play a bit I would sometimes borrow that very bass of John's Thank goodness for youtube!
20. Corrrr - I haven't had such an expensive day out as that since about 1973 Are the pics ready yet? - - - - Are the pics ready yet? - - - - - Are the pics ready yet? - - - - - - Are the pics ready yet? - - - - - - - Are the pics ready yet?
21.
The bulky Fender-style neck joint is a completely different matter though!
If it was that bad - you'd think they would have changed it after 60 years - wouldn't you? Re the slab body - I only play seated & find my MiJ '51P plenty comfortable enough, even though or perhaps because I'm a fat bastard it has a nice 'shelf' for my forearm which suits my finger style up near the neck playing. I don't think I change position noticeably between playing that & the more rounded P's I have.
22. Has anyone had an answer from the seller yet? I've also sent him a question - "OK so I can buy a brand new MiM P-bass for less than 1/2 what you're asking, what's the deal?" Cheerz, John
