3. The MTD looks a delightful bargain! All together seems a very very capable setup, congrats
4. So about £680 including shipping + 3.7% duty + VAT 20% + handling charge approx £12.
5.
More photos: http://s1206.photobu...bb442/solo4652/
Looks right enough, I'd guess £350 if you're lucky - up to £500ish if it's really good & what you want, they're quite often on ebay.
6. I think we need more than a head shot to form an opinion on, got any more?
7.
I much prefer them to Schallers, have never had a problem with the screw coming out and have them on most of my basses for years. I have had that strap nut frequently loosen after time on Schallers, however.
Me too, I've changed Schallers for Jim Dunlops, now on all mine. @steve-bbbThey also make a recessed (in the body) version (as fitted to my Skjold) which takes the same strap fitting & the strap fits right up close to the woodwork.
8. Don't forget that Rotosound Roundwound's had only just started to make an appearance & everybody who was anybody was giving them a good thrashing Consider that in your search for that sound
9.
I have - he lives on the other side of the mirror in our bathroom. Didn't Ace Kefford use one on "Night of Fear"? That has some real growly, aggresive bass.....
It's all coming back to me now Long story - when I were a lad, Roy Wood was dating our guitarist's sister & when he used to come down to Hastings (Northiam actually) for a 'session' John (Ace) often used to come with. So in that lovely old cellar where we used to have a smoke & a beer or 12 & play a bit I would sometimes borrow that very bass of John's Thank goodness for youtube!
10. Corrrr - I haven't had such an expensive day out as that since about 1973 Are the pics ready yet? - - - - Are the pics ready yet? - - - - - Are the pics ready yet? - - - - - - Are the pics ready yet? - - - - - - - Are the pics ready yet?
11.
The bulky Fender-style neck joint is a completely different matter though!
If it was that bad - you'd think they would have changed it after 60 years - wouldn't you? Re the slab body - I only play seated & find my MiJ '51P plenty comfortable enough, even though or perhaps because I'm a fat bastard it has a nice 'shelf' for my forearm which suits my finger style up near the neck playing. I don't think I change position noticeably between playing that & the more rounded P's I have.
12. Has anyone had an answer from the seller yet? I've also sent him a question - "OK so I can buy a brand new MiM P-bass for less than 1/2 what you're asking, what's the deal?" Cheerz, John
13. Many a fine bass player has run away at the thought of playing that & doing it justice Top marks to you for having a go at it 'snot easy
14. Here's one of Guy's single screw Maple T/R on my '51P
15. Yes - Guy's been flagged up before, top quality work & woods, I've got his T/Rs on all mine. They not only look good, they have a much nicer feel & put you 'in touch' far more than a plastic moulding, IMO
16. That looks a fine lot of P for 600 squid, just shows no-one's got spare in their pocket. Lovely bass - GLWTS John
17.
lol yea took me about 3-4 hours!
It's gonna take you another 3-4 hours to clean up the bridge & all the bits covered in crap - why didn't you put them somewhere out of the sh1te storm?
18. One way to get personal/special is to cut/get made a scratch plate from clear Acrylic or Polycarbonate/Lexan sheet, then fit whatever you want underneath, veneer, wallpaper, photograph, newspaper, cornflakes packet, squashed flies, whatever you like. You can even do custom artwork on the reverse & have it protected by the see through top. Cheerz, John
19.
Plenty of Big Birds though..
Pictures? Phone numbers?
20. Don't sacrifice a perfectly good P bass in an attempt to get it sounding like a '62 Jazz, it ain't gonna happen, get a Jazz IMO Cheerz, John
21. ^^ Looks a good job look forward to the 'school hall test' results. Cheerz, John
22. Riverside - loads of on youtube, brilliant!
23. I'm listening to more Riverside now, must admit to this being the first 'new prog rock' stuff I've liked for a long time
