1. Don't think for a second that ebay 'buyer protection' will do a F'ing thing to help you! I'm stuck in a dispute at the moment over a £400 item which the seller described as 2 years old & as soon as I got it I saw the Date 2007 on it's serial number & the manual! From my experience their customer relations are at zero, it's mind blowingly useless
2. Happy New Year back to Ped & the team, thanks for everything that makes this site THE BEST! Cheerz, John
3. I would if it had provenance like if it was John Entwistles old one
4. Well done & a bit nearer for me too! Will do my best to pop in when you're up & running
5. BTW, Don't just leave that neck in a corner somewhere, I'd lay it on a flat surface, heel on the flat then supported under the nut area, at a steady normal room temperature & humidity, in a safe place. Also take the opportunity to give it a good clean, check all the frets for wear, dents, lifting, sharp ends etc. etc. treat it to a lemon oil freshen up (if it's rosewood). Just check the truss rod nut turns both ways OK & reset to where it was, (approx). Make sure all the tuners are good, clean, free running + all screws present & tight. Plenty to do while you're waiting for the paint to dry Cheerz, John
6. It's not likely to make any difference IMO, I'd leave it as is, it's gonna need a real good setup when you've done - whatever.
7. Forget the 'practise amps' go straight to the one you'll love, Ashdown Little Bastard with a 112 or 115 for starters You won't regret it, save all that messing about, you'll only be happy with the Valve sound, I can tell Is that kit still for sale in the ads? Cheerz, John
8. Like it like it like it - - - Great solid old P sound although IMO the bass is there at the roots but fizzles out/gets a bit muffled on the walks - to my ears on my PC with above average speakers (Creative T100). Have to agree with Luke ^^^ could have been mixed better. I know I know everyone's a F'ing sound engineer Terrific1st attempt, you nailed that Northern Soul groove, (played it twice before commenting), the Midnight Walk bass comes through much clearer. Cheerz, John
9.
You know what I never thought of that I suppose i just wanted something new but a 4x8 might be the way to go Any suggestions?
Here's one http://basschat.co.uk/topic/125057-ashdown-mini-4x8-cab-newer-round-handle-model/page__hl__ashdown%20cab
10. The Zinc sounds OK, simple test - spray some on a test piece of wood - when dry put a Ohm meter probes on it & see if you have conductivity through the 'paint'. If you do I can't see it being any worse than special conductive paint you might buy for the job.
11. Have you tried adding another cab? Something like the mini 4x8 I find it really helps In fact have you tried any other cabs? I don't think the Ashdown 112 will get the best out of the LB on it's own.
12.
Hi I need some advice on a beginner bass a quality one, I was thinking of a fender precision American deluxe or a stingray ? Any advice please Regards Chris
I'd say search the sales on here & get a good used bass up to £300 & a decent enough practise combo max £200 & spend the change - or at least some of the £1000 on lessons then you'll have a better idea of what suits you.
13.
It is but it's not mine though. That's an '82. I have an earlier '80 one with chrome hardware.... and a lot more ... ahem .... "mojo".
Damn that GAS & then I remembered this clip, Randy Meisner I believe - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GQPLT1Za8Es
14.
Well I wouldn't say it will nail it... but it might get close. I can get a solid sc P tone with my L-1000 when I go to split. Here's a rough comparison between my pup position and yours.
That Wunkay is wonderful
15. I found with my Frank Bello the standard Fender SCN bridge pick up added sweet FA to the output, either on it's own or with both on full so I changed it to a S/D1/4lb J to match the neck SD 1/4lb P. Now it sounds right with both on full - JUST LIKE A P
16.
Did you know a guy called Alan Pine by any chance ? Garry
It's not ringing any bells at the moment, I do remember a lot of Dicks & at least 2 Johns, I'll try to get the grey matter churning
17. There was another factory in Hastings which never gets mentioned but I worked there back in the days, we couldn't churn out AC30s fast enough! Sometimes made visits to Dartford or Erith transporting kit between units. Will be watching that & thanks for the heads up
18.
*(yes i do sit at the keyboard and pick at my bass. Dosent everyone ?)
Yep frequently
19. I'm using Google Chrome on PC & laptop, the 'Change Theme' no longer works for me on both, I was used to the IPS without all the ad's Edit: Just tried ie8 & the change theme is not working on that either.
20. Usual old fashioned nail in the back of the head & a bit of string should do it
21.
I wouldn't be surprised if it was a 7.5".
Wouldn't that be 7.25"? 7&1/4" in old money Here's one I made earlier , an old bank card makes a nice workable gauge. 22. I'd go for 10 - 20, 20 is 'standard' room temp whereas 5 is f'in cold
