1. Have you tried adding another cab? Something like the mini 4x8 I find it really helps In fact have you tried any other cabs? I don't think the Ashdown 112 will get the best out of the LB on it's own.
2.
Hi I need some advice on a beginner bass a quality one, I was thinking of a fender precision American deluxe or a stingray ? Any advice please Regards Chris
I'd say search the sales on here & get a good used bass up to £300 & a decent enough practise combo max £200 & spend the change - or at least some of the £1000 on lessons then you'll have a better idea of what suits you.
3.
It is but it's not mine though. That's an '82. I have an earlier '80 one with chrome hardware.... and a lot more ... ahem .... "mojo".
Damn that GAS & then I remembered this clip, Randy Meisner I believe - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GQPLT1Za8Es
4.
Well I wouldn't say it will nail it... but it might get close. I can get a solid sc P tone with my L-1000 when I go to split. Here's a rough comparison between my pup position and yours.
That Wunkay is wonderful
5. I found with my Frank Bello the standard Fender SCN bridge pick up added sweet FA to the output, either on it's own or with both on full so I changed it to a S/D1/4lb J to match the neck SD 1/4lb P. Now it sounds right with both on full - JUST LIKE A P
6.
Did you know a guy called Alan Pine by any chance ? Garry
It's not ringing any bells at the moment, I do remember a lot of Dicks & at least 2 Johns, I'll try to get the grey matter churning
7. There was another factory in Hastings which never gets mentioned but I worked there back in the days, we couldn't churn out AC30s fast enough! Sometimes made visits to Dartford or Erith transporting kit between units. Will be watching that & thanks for the heads up
8.
*(yes i do sit at the keyboard and pick at my bass. Dosent everyone ?)
Yep frequently
9. I'm using Google Chrome on PC & laptop, the 'Change Theme' no longer works for me on both, I was used to the IPS without all the ad's Edit: Just tried ie8 & the change theme is not working on that either.
10. Usual old fashioned nail in the back of the head & a bit of string should do it
11. Hoi! No knobs Good innit Lovely puss cat
12.
I wouldn't be surprised if it was a 7.5".
Wouldn't that be 7.25"? 7&1/4" in old money Here's one I made earlier , an old bank card makes a nice workable gauge.
13. I'd go for 10 - 20, 20 is 'standard' room temp whereas 5 is f'in cold
14.
Blimey, how did they ever cope back in the 50's, 60's and 70's before this was invented
Yeah & the 80's, 90's, even 00's. 60 years without it
15.
I get that.. but what problem does it fix?
Exactly! I've never had a problem - with the A string - that is
16.
What-an invisibility gizmo?
Patience is a virtue
17. Never seen this before - all those years (60) of development, cutting edge technology, the best brains in the world have come up with this: Can you tell what it is yet? Is it only available on 'top of the range' 2011 models?
18. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/POWER-BASS-STRINGS-LONG-SCALE-COMPATABLE-PRECISION-JAZZ-/390362457058?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item5ae36a63e2#ht_1287wt_934 I don't use rounds but maybe some will try these cheapo's?
19. Good to hear the track cheers WOT, lovely recording, clear bass excellent warm tone & well played
20. Great to hear the LB can push enough out via good speakers - with a 12 piece band Lovely little amps Best wishes for the shows, have fun. Cheerz, John
21.
Drilling is not the problem, I think the positioning could be. I Agree with the potential risk of the paint flaking but what if the holes were drilled before painting?
Drilling is not the problem - Positioning is not the problem - Paint flaking is not the problem - The problem is playing the damn thing once they're on there Unless you're young enough to learn to play different style or just want to hang it on a wall to look at
22. I love the look with ashtrays on, but decided to experiment with covers on a cheapo P-bass before drilling. I'm glad I did because I can't play anything like 'normal' with them on so I won't be drilling either my '57 or '62, not for the foreseeable anyhow
23. I almost bought a '62 AV from him & had good communications with, seems a genuine guy to me, I only didn't, 'cos I got a better deal straight from the states. I would buy with confidence from him on that basis alone. HTH, John Edit: Yes that is a seriously good price & yes they are a seriously good P-bass mine '57 is my go to
24. This came through from Stewart MacDonald in their newsletter & I thought it might be worth sharing ;-) http://www.stewmac.com/tradesecrets/ts0151_polystripping.hzml?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=ts0151
