1.
John, do you know what colour the silks are on the 45-65-85-105 set?
HI Dave, I'll have a look at my old packets, not sure if I've had a 45 set or not. Cheerz, John
2. I've tried GHS Flats both ways on my Frank Bello, which comes as standard fitted with BadAssIII & through body option. Honestly I couldn't tell any difference but that's via my 60 year old ears, nothing sophisticated about them ;-) Thinking about it, I've had Fender 9050 Flats both ways on my '51 P, with Hipshot bridge & not been able to tell any difference.
3.
I believe those are the same as Lakland Joe Osborn Flats. What colour silks do they have? The Osborns are black silks.
Deep Purle at the tuner, bare naked at the bridge
4. Fenders: AV '57 & AV '62 = 14.0 mm (Variable +/- 0.25) Nitro finish, MIJ '51 = 14.3 Poly finish
5.
FWIW I've through strung mine and they haven't snapped. I was very careful and the angle doesn't look 'that' bad.
I've had LaBella Original 54 Oldies strung through on BadAss & Hipshot bridges with no problems & I can't see why they would be any trouble on a standard Fender bridge. After all - the original P bass bridges/bodies were all through mounting. My favourites remain GHS Precision Flatwounds in 55,70,90,105, personally I find they feel better in every way to the LaBellas.
6. Is there a price ticket on that? Are you local?
7. Sounds like a good day but could get expensive! I've seen Coda advertise some sweet NOS P-basses
8. Hi Orys, Great intro - welcome to the forum. If the Peavey Cirrus BXP in the ebay link is one you like the look of, I'd say it's a good buy at that price. Good sounding well made guitars but if it would suit you? Who can tell - only yourself BTW the seller of the Peavy is nothing to do with me, although he could well be a member on here Good luck, John
9.
John, if you are taking a trip up to Terry in Stevenage, let me know if you want to meet up for a coffee and chat.
That's an offer I can't refuse cheers mate, once we start talking bass/koi/fishing someone would have to drag us apart I'll certainly let yo know if I'm going up near you, no plans yet & pleased to reciprocate if you're ever down South. ATB, John
10.
bump - need to shift this lot as its taking up space
Then why don't you answer questions that were asked 3 days ago? It might help you shift some
11. No idea what washburn pups are like but just so happens I've today measured my Gherson Jazz pups & they're 7.7K neck / 7.37K bridge. Mind you they're probably 38 years old Yours could be totally different spec.
12.
Right now.John, the pickups are disconnected completely from the electrics,in fact the neck pickup is completely out of the bass, and on the workbench.Reading is 1.--- as with probes apart. Mark I have already tried the 'tap test' and the neck p/up was giving a very weak reaction compared to the same test applied to the bridge one, also,in use,the neck p/up was not giving the true output that a neck p/up should, in comparison to the the bridge. You're probably right, they're probably passive.(Shows how much I know).I'm presuming then that the neck p/up is u/s,and needs replacing. What does the team think? Thanks.
Well it sounds like a break in the windings then, I don't know how it was giving any output though! I don't know if it's worth asking about a rewind, or is a straight forward replacement easiest?
13. Bit of both really, in truth I suppose none of the inlays are perfect, but it's a 38 year old neck I'll see how it goes. Cheerz
14. Yes but no but - there looks to be quite a bit of gap filling required - under the one I've lifted so far anyway Cheerz
15. There's a couple of 'raised inlays on my J neck, I've carefully lifted one out & it looks like the stuff from a hot glue gun that was holding it in. What's recommended for the job please? Cheerz, John
16. Is that with the pick up wires still connected to the pots/rest of circuit or are they disconnected from everything? edit: When you say no reading at all is that 0.000 (or close) as in meter probes shorted together or a 1.----- as with probes apart?
17.
I've just tested the pickups on my Washburn XB600 as the neck p/up seemed much weaker than the bridge.Readings from my multi meter are thus: Bridge p/up - 16.2.Neck p/up - No reading at all.My questions: Is the zero reading a sign that the p/up is duff?If so,how can it give me an output through my amp?And secondly,is the 16.2 (not sure what the units are.Kohms?) reading normal for what I believe are Active P/ups?Many thanks.
Where exactly or to what are you connecting the meter? I don't know Washburns but 16.2 K sounds pretty high. Cheerz, John
18.
The Spector probably has a stereo socket (like most active basses) as this acts as the switch for the active circuitry when the lead is plugged in.
Well - yes I could have worded it better - the Squire will be as above, I don't know about the Spector but if it's active then a stereo version as suggested will do. Cheerz, John
19. Arrrrrr! a real pirates bass bit different to the norm. Good luck with the sale Gary but most of all best wishes to your daughter, I hope she's feeling better soon. Cheerz, John
20. Wish I was closer, I'd be pleased to help but - too far away. If your Spector is the same as the Fender you'll want Switchcraft mono jack sockets like these: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genuine-Switchcraft-USA-Jack-Socket-/270828275797?pt=UK_Guitar_Accessories&hash=item3f0e9f8855#ht_788wt_952 but please be warned - they are not easy to solder to. PM me for any more info/help if you like. Cheerz, John
21. Hi, If this bridge is still for sale, can you let me know the overall dimensions please & if possible send me a bigger picture, I can't get it any bigger than this I'd like to see the fixing hole centres too - it's not for a Fender Cheerz, John
22.
I fancy a respray, does that price include stripping a poly finish?
I couldn't tell you - send him a mail
