1. When I first met my Kaz I only had 1 bass, a electro acoustic & a Peavey practise amp, which stood in the spare room, rarely touched. She encouraged me to take it up again so I'm eternally grateful for that & her brother in law plays guitar so we occasionally get together. She loves me playing even if it sends her to sleep sometimes, takes an interest in my gear, I had to name my '57 White Blonde after her, (for obvious reasons), + it's a quality bit of kit She appreciates sound quality like no other woman I've ever known & always knows if I'm playing something that doesn't sound right, she can even tell the difference between basses from another room! All I have to put up with is the odd - "If you didn't buy so many basses we could have a new fence out the front! But that fence has been there for nearly fourty years I say - surely it will last a bit longer? Love her to bits
2.
. . . . Has the G/F come back, and what was the reaction like? . . .
Yes she's home on schedule now & after a brief rundown of the circumstances - - - Yes I've got away with it based on the fact it was the least expensive bass I've ever bought (I think) Yes she's a diamond & excited to see what it's like when it turns up Cheerz, John
3.
Tell me more about the Orange 2 x 18...
It was Mahusive, only just fitted in the back of my Austin A40 Countryman On stage the 1x Hiwatt 100 wasn't quite enough so I soon got another, slaved together it was pure trouser flapping awesome Just a bit heavy IIRC. I've not seen another, don't think they made many of 'em but it was definitely Orange, which was different in those days. Cheerz, john
4. Here's a couple of pictures, plenty of work to do
5.
I had a Gherson jazz a few years ago. Really slim neck which i couldn't get on with, but the pickups were amazing. Weighed quite a bit as well!!
Yeah I don't think my fingers are going to be very happy with, I'm nearly 40 years older, a lot fatter & slower + very used to my C necked P's
6.
Good luck! Sounds like you've got a good one there mate. I have to admit that my wife is also very understanding, especially when I tell her it's an investment, just like some people by pictures, I buy basses!
Yeah I used that excuse last time but I got away with that, I bought a AV '62 but sold 2 Mex's, so according to my maths - I've got room for this one? Yes she's a good one alright - a 100% 19 carat diamond
7. She's home tomorrow, just a short visit to see her Mum on her 80th. So she'll be home before the bass gets here Luckily she's very understanding usually
8.
Good man! Can't wait to see the pics. But what happened to the Duck Project?
Duck project moved onto back burner for now that's a serious project, this is for the memories
9. The g/f goes away for a couple of days & what happens - I've only gone & bought another bass! I blame ebay 100% I couldn't resist, seen a few come & go in the past but this one looked quite tidy a bit of work required but it'll keep me busy for a while. It's a Gherson Jazz, as close as I can remember to the one & only bass I had & gigged with for several years mid 70s, so lots of nostalgia. In '73 I went to that London specifically to buy a Rick, had saved £400 but every one I tried had a action a mile high & felt rough to play. I came home that day with a Gherson Blonde Jazz, Hiwatt 100 & Orange 2x18 cab, no I din't get it all for £400, I had a piece of plastic called Barclaycard as well! I can't seem to grab pictures from ebay on my laptop for some reason so I'll get some pics up as soon as. Cheerz, John

A long long time ago I had a Green version of this with a mattress or 3 in the backhttp://www.scltd.net/www/bkmotors/applications/filelib/Ford%20Thames%20400E.pdf
15. Cheerz m'dearz, I've sent off a mail, so I'll wait patiently for a reply, no rush
16. Thanks for that Lozz, I've seen your P-pics & it looks very fine indeed + Terry is a name I've heard of thanks for reminding me & the link, seems very reasonable price, I'll get in touch with him. Cheerz, John
17. Thanks Lloydy, it's a lovely bass, I think I'll stick to my plan-A & look for a USA to modify, but I'm very tempted Good luck with the sale, Cheerz, John
should have kept the bog in there Good work though very jealous
Just what I was thinking, would have been a most useful optional extra & quite rare amongst gigmobiles
19. Should I happen to want a P-bass sprayed Candy Apple Red definitely with Nitro Cellulose 1. Who do you know? Almost certainly nowhere near here so it'll have to be via post. 2. If I get a '57 USA Ri Ash body in Nitro White Blonde already, will it need stripping right back for best finish or just prepared & used as base coat? TIA, John
20. Could you just check the neck - is it really 1.75" at the nut & if possible check the frets size? I'm thinking - if it's a Mim I've not seen one with that spec. Could you let us know the serial number? Just one more question, was the gold scratch plate a 10 hole, same as the WD black? Cheerz, John PS If it is that neck spec & USA made I'll have it!
21. Bet it'll be more than a £1 to get in
22.
I get 'The requested operation requires elevation'. ??
Same here on my laptop running Vista with only 1 user account, me as administrator (obviously I suppose). The ipconfig/flushdns worked on my PC with XP but seems to have made no difference. Cheerz, John

Another straight forward & pleasurable deal done with Mark, he bought a P-bass wiring kit - with great communications & instant payment - highly recommended Cheerz, John
24.
Hi Guys I just got a marshall mark 2 superbass and 4x12 1935 cab - I have noticed it clipping when a turn it to practice volume (i.e. to keep up with the drummer!) and when I drop the E to D. I have tried the cab with another amp and it works fine..... Any thoughts or suggestions would be most helpfull Cheers Chris
What a strange place - on a 3 year old thread - to ask for help! Try the amps & cabs forum - hopefully you'll get more response. Cheerz, John
25. Loving the Whale's old P-bass, strangely when Ghostpoets were playing I thought 'they could do with a bass player!' PS: I didn't realise Noah & The Whale had Phil Lynott on drums & Jarvis Cocker on guitar
